fertur - they say
Heus tū! Fertur tē velle plūs vocābulōrum Latīnōrum audīre. They say you want to hear more Latin words. Well this week’s ancient word is fertur, literally it is carried, in the sense of vōx fertur or fāma fertur, the voice or rumor is carried, telling of something.
Fertur can also be said ferunt. Ferunt Caesarem Rōmam oppugnāre! They say Caesar is besieging Rome!
ferō ferre tulī lātum is a lovely suppletive verb, very irregular, just how I like them. Fertur is the passive “it is carried,” and “they carry” is ferunt.
Now come up with your own expression in the comments. Grātiās, amīce, valē plūrimum!
