A full page of outtakes and unused material from the production of this strip posts two hours later, in tiers 2 & 3! Come treat yourself to that and hundreds of other pieces, all for just a few dollars more!

They say that fame changes you, but what it really does is allow previously under-resourced capacities to flourish. Carl Jung, writing in 1952, described how each of us is governed by a pecker/homeboy duality (Das Schwanz-nachbarschaftfreund), and further declared that whichever of these you feed will be the dominant element of your personality. In Beef's case, he never had the social standing to safely experiment with peckerhood until he came into a little money, at which point his exploration of it overtook what could have been a balanced nature. In the above scenario, he hurts his friend, who will seek to restore the social order.

Tune in next week to see what becomes of this warfare!

Matthew Miller

Never lend a book, and this goes double for credibility.

Josh Egbert

Calories didn't have the passion. Beef knew this.

Ian Stewart

Perhaps most interesting is the implication that, unlike Teodor, Beef has successfully pulled off the media-industry hipster transformation... at least temporarily

Tom P

Beef always had the potential to be a minor superhero while Teodor peaked when he attended Yale (or wherever)

Tom P

I appreciate the genuine anger in Ray's posture, a feeling he did not even demonstrate in the GOF

Shepton

Musicals, and the things in the spaces adjacent to musicals, can do things to a man

Tom P

also, considering this strip restimulated authentic old anxieties and guilts from when I was a pecker and not a homeboy in my youth. I will strive to Forgive myself, for while the boy is father to the man, one may in time move towards the better nature.

Nicholas Williams

I mean Roast Beef is being an absolute pecker here.

Douglas Wykstra

Beef referring to it as "A New Hope" is a DEFCON-2 cry for help, and if Ray weren't so on tilt about not being able to do something as well as his friend he would recognize this.

Bungus Bronbo

Ray channeling his struggle the way blues men hit keys

Crumbles

Come now Beef, at least take your friend to get a Fiesta Name, look him in the eye, and tell him his musical is dogshit.

Bruce Wright

I never saw Roast being THIS much of a pecker

Matt Mitchell

So Beef either consented to that shitty contract from the last strip, or he managed in a Beef-like way to negotiate a better one?

Elyse Renée

Roast Beef’s musicals-based success has made him forget who pulled him out of the fire when stewardesses bearing Chivas dove for his hog.

Jonathan

'The phrase "Das Schwanz-nachbarschaftfreund" appears to be a nonsensical or humorous compound German word. A literal translation would be: **"The tail-neighborhood-friend"** However, this doesn't make much sense in English (or even in German, as it seems artificially constructed). If you meant a different word or phrase, please provide more context!'

Jonathan

This is a Duress Code.

*So* itty

<<< Ah, now it makes sense! In this context, "Das Schwanz-nachbarschaftfreund" is a humorous pseudo-German compound word … A fitting English translation … could be: "The Cock-and-Bro Dichotomy" Explanation: "Schwanz" = slang for "cock/dick" (pecker) "Nachbarschaft" = neighborhood "Freund" = friend → implying "homeboy/bro" >>>

Sedric and Charlie

it is a known fact that every success Roast Beef achieves in the public sphere leads to rack and ruin in the end. It's actually surprising how often Ray has facilitated this

Nicholas

Between this arc and the cargo shorts strip Achewood is absolutely on fire right now

Nicholas

Not showing Beef while he’s talking like this is great storytelling. Like, what does he look like now??

A. Hamster

I saw people go harder at each other on basically any Jerry Springer episode

severecorvid

Why does my dogg talk like a fucking plank from linkedin

zaratustra

Roast Beef could use Ray's experience with contracts in exchange. Ray probably reads the part that's not in bold these days.

2scrogz

...And then drown his sorrows in oversweetened frozen watermelon margs and the overwhelming sodium of a Triple-Spiced Power Plate Finisher (tm). Beef is being a real dingus not even trying to smooth this over with his friend through a double dose of The Truth and sit-down TexMex chain-food.

Achewood

Bingo, my good man! Well done.

Achewood

I’m so glad that detail hit right.

Achewood

The boy is the father to the man…I’m going to sit with that a while.

Achewood

Vouch for No Man terrestrial or other

Ben Wilinofsky

Beef out here playing chess while Ray playing whack-a-mole

C C

I don't remember ever seeing Ray type so furiously.

C C

The influence of this most despicable form of music has strained the cat's friendship to it's breaking point.

A. C.

I need that musical

David Mandeix

This is how I’m delivering all my bad news from now on

Crumbles

"Your creative endeavors are dogshit, and your fiesta name is "Ano Lloroso."
