And here are EVEN MORE warm-up lines from Spicey Grampa! They were rejected for obvious reasons which you can learn about by reading them.

***

TÉODOR: Hi Spicey Grampa! Tell us about before the Internet!

SPICEY GRAMPA: Well, if ya wanted a crab cake you’d have to make it yourself. Restaurants only made two things: steak, and string beans. What else would a meal even be?!

***

TÉODOR: Hi Spicey Grampa! Tell us about before smartphones!

SPICEY GRAMPA: Well, if you wanted directions you’d call the evening news and in a few weeks they’d run a segment on it!

Oh, Jan Yanehiro, you absolute doll.

***

SPICEY GRAMPA: You never bought a taxidermy rabbit’s foot from a quarter machine at a dark pizza parlor?

***

TÉODOR: Hi Spicey Grampa! Tell us about desk times!

SPICEY GRAMPA: Oh, desks were wonderful things. Free and clear of clutter. Very impressive. But then the computer came along and ruined everything! How do you talk to someone across a desk with a big appliance on it?! I tell you, Bill Gates is killin’ the world comin’ and goin’.

***

TÉODOR: Hi Spicey Grampa! Why did everybody used to get married so young?

SPICEY GRAMPA: Well, the sooner you got married,

…the longer you’d have to get familiar with each other’s habits,

…and your ghosts would find each other easier in the afterlife.

TÉODOR: That’s a very sweet belief, but how could it ever be proven?

SPICEY GRAMPA: Oh, that’s right, you can’t see ghosts yet. I can! They don’t bother with young people.

TÉODOR: Because they don’t want to scare us?

SPICEY GRAMPA: Because they ain’t gonna meet you for a while! Why bother?

With us it’s like a kickoff meeting. Orientation.

TÉODOR: Maybe there could be an app where ghosts and the elderly match up to see if they want to hang in the afterlife.

SPICEY GRAMPA: Maybe there could be an app where a dog flies out of a bush and bites your neck in half! Then you could gurgle your stupid ideas out the side of your throat!

I look forward to reading the upcoming strip about reaching

Achewood

It’s not for everybody. Some will find it offensive, others it will leave cold. But it is nothing short of a revolution.

Achewood

I’m glad that line worked. I wasn’t sure. I had my doubts, you see.

Bruce Wright

Love the riff about ghosts. Ain’t seeing them yet, which i take to be a good sign.

Wakin' the neighbors with a midnight ride on the thunder mug

Zen Window

i legitimately want connie to put a stop to this tomfoolery by exposing ray's performative premature gerontocracy act

blair

"...people used to crap right in their bedrooms" immediately took me back to the Diary of Samuel Pepys, particularly the entry where he was sleeping over at someone else's house and couldn't find the chamber pot (Chamber-Pott?) in the dark and had to make pickles in the fireplace.

Zen Window

ray's just stuck in the worst of all times like the rest of us gen xers too young to retire, too old to fuck

Anthony Thompson

*Standing up and announcing in a clear voice, like in Spartacus* "No, I am Ray Smuckles sexual partner."

Julie (HiDeeHoGal)

My taxidermied rabbit's foot on a chain was pink and purple. There were also loose chiclets and cigarettes. The pizza came with a haystack of fried crispy onions and was extremely thin crispy crust. Trivia: Masaaledaar daadaajee is how you say Spicy Grandpa in Hindi. It's fun to say.

Douglas Wykstra

By that last question, Spicey Grandpa is ready for the conversation to be over so he can get to his "down time" (being angry at the TV for six hours).

Reaching: The Musical

Spyguitar

I enjoyed many a dank, floral, herbacious brew in my youth, but yes, these days I want the ones that taste like beer and won't make me hungover if I have more than 1.5 of them

"...mailin' our poop to 23 And Me! And they're like NO! NO!" actually got an audible laugh out of me. It makes me imagine Ray conflating the genetic-testing company with the "at-home bowel-health-check" company and getting a very angry phone call from 23 And Me about it.

Max Crowe

This line immediately resonated with me precisely because my tastes in beer lean towards the dank

Conor Nelson

There really *isn't* a dance anymore, he's right.

Achewood

I think there's more to that throwaway line than meets the eye. A dance...it forces you to learn who you are...or aren't.

Achewood

Ray must have thought he was mailing samples to NumberTwoAndMe.com
