Chapbook Three was massive — 86 pages. Dumping it on you in extenso felt both inconsiderate and unthrifty: (a) it would demand a mountain of your time when many of you are likely still catching up on how much cherry strudel I ate in the Wisconsin Dells last April, and (b) if I provide one comic a week for Tier 1, and Tier 3 gets 86 illustrated "gag-pages" on some random Thursday, am I really the calculated steward of rational mien to which I aspire?

So, I chopped it into four parts. Even though this might seem cheap, I am going to run a psychological ploy by concurrently asking you a favor: if you are so moved, and of selfsame belief, would you please in the Comments compose for a stranger a terse and compelling testimonial in support of joining either the Author's Tier, or the Achewood Patreon in general, which I may use in promotion of this service? I grow concerned that too few of Earth's people take happiness from these channels — the very banisters of well-being for which I lathe fresh blarney-spindles each day — and the heartfelt words you give to the public domain would be a blessing toward this amelioration of our fellow human. I thank you in advance.

DEAR CHEAPSKATES: THIS MAN DESERVES YOUR SUPPORT. HE HAS HAD A HARD LIFE AND IS NOT ALWAYS UNDERSTOOD.

"You ... should give ... [Onstad] money ... for [Achewood]" - Kirkus Reviews

Tom P

Your Patreon funds will be spent in the manner of Nice Pete, not of Teodor, if you "understand me."

If you are reading this, it means your thumbs have already absorbed a new strain of virus that I have learned to transmit via phone. If you would like to learn of the Antidote, it is the first pinned item in the Author’s Tier.

thought I brought my A game there

Feel free to use this if you like: "Onstad is still, somehow, after all these years, one of the smartest and most explosively funny writers on the internet, both within the panels of Achewood and outside of them. Even as an Author's Tier subscriber, I constantly feel like I'm getting away with something, given the sheer amount of chef's-kiss work available at that level. (Don't tell Chris this, but I would keep my A.T. subscription even if he hiked the price by, like, a lot. Pretend I just whispered that part to you.)"

Oh my god taco boats were the platinum-tier lunch at my late-80s Bay Area high school cafeteria and no one ever knows what I’m talking about when I talk about them (which I guess is pretty often).

Oppido

Alternatively: "The difference between not being an Achewood subscriber and being one is the difference between Beef trapped in the Volvo of Despair and Ray stepping out of it." (In an ideal world, I would've done this in meme format, like -- "Me before getting an Achewood subscription: [panel of Beef silently howling in agony] // Me after getting an Achewood subscription: [panel of Ray goofily sticking his tongue out]." I can't upload images into this little Patreon comment field, however.)

Jacob Kovac

I only found out last week Onstad was active again and I have looked upon such treasures since then without overtaking the 100th strip available to even the lowliest of subscribers. If like me you believed achewood to have been lost as the aether curdled and the years were doled out haphazardly, for the price of 5 arby's sandwiches in 2006 you may roll the boulder aside and discover a resurrection.

Josh Fireland

Anyway I digress: It’s super rare to have someone build a world you love, and fill it with characters you love, and then just keep building it, and keep making it deeper and richer and weirder, and then share all that for free, for years. So when I had a chance to directly support this thing, and get even more back in return, well, that was the easiest Paypal I ever Paypal’d.

Even old folks like me enjoy every word and picture that make up the pure magic that is Achewood. The Author's Tier gives an extra special look into the life and times of our talented and beloved Onstad. (I can't write for shit, wish I could do this assignment justice)

Experienced IMMEDIATE, HUGE GAINS in firmness, size, AND stamina! Partner is WOWED! 😍

Henri

imagine that "man life should not be a piece of shit" panel as a t-shirt on like an aged white or heather soft cotton

Achewood

It is good, and powerful, but makes me sound like I live in a parka on a bench

"Achewood: It's fucking great."

Julie (HiDeeHoGal)

I wonder what the Google search histories of your 1st, 2nd, and 3rd tier subscribers look like? Compare and contrast. (I have no promo blurb as I am under exclusive contract with whatever global branding company is the worst and stupidest). Also taco boats fucking RULE.

[awaiting editorial approval] "Look pal, I know you like the comics. We all like the comics. They defined a generation on the internet. But do you realise the comics aren't in the past tense any more? There's over a hundred of them on here, some of the best he's ever done! The Pat-on-Mushrooms arc is my favourite overall but Todd and Beef comparing childhood trauma is my favourite standalone. You should get on this Patreon. And listen buddy, I know you're on the Patreon for the comics. We all joined the Patreon for the comics. But there's so much more meat on the bone if you want to step up a grade. Deep personal revelations, works of art and literature, unveilment of the greasy mechanics that underpin the making of an Achewood strip, witticisms and bon mots. All for only a few dollars more! You really should consider getting in on this action"

Imagine if you will, the Bros. Chaps have overcome their decades-long feud and Strongbad is once again typey-typing out his emails, that the Trogdor comes in the ni-ee-ight anew, that the Poopsmith digs afresh (so to speak). What wouldn't you give? This is just like that, but with that giant of early-century web comix, Achewood! That's right! Chris has overcome his decades-long feud and Roast Beef is one again depressed, Phillipe is in the corner anew, and could Liebot tell us the latest saddest thing? Possibly! There is only one way to find out, just bump Chris a couple of bucks on his Patreon. The best money I've ever spent and I donated to We Are the World.

[I don't actually know if "unveilment" is a word or not]

Oppido

This one.

This is fucking awesome in its accuracy

🤣

Had never heard of the Artists' and Writers' Cookbook. Duchamp Steak? I'm on annas-archive as we speak

disrobing might work there

As a Knucklehead From Old Times / Fan Since Small Times, I can say with confidence that the second act of Achewood is full strength, delivered as reliably on Fridays as old dogs bringing TV dads their slippers in 1950s sitcoms. You too can enjoy the guaranteed Friday dopamine hit of the Patreon logo popping up on your phone, wherein you realize peak comedy, bathos, and pathos await you in several new panels featuring the characters you’ve loved for so long. No matter how grim the Friday, new Achewood always gives me a change of mood and saves some part of a day I had rued. You’re not a kid and it’s not your birthday, so I will *absolutely* say this cocaine idea near you: stop leaving easy joy on the table, chochacho. Become a paid member of the Patreon.

Idiot Man

If you ever enjoyed the original run's alt text because it was like a little peek behind the curtains, there is now a way to permanently hang around behind those curtains. In a fun communal sense, like there is an afterparty going on back there. Not just standing around alone behind some curtains.

Oppido

Where's that gif of the pen writing words that burst into flame

Jenn

Game recognize game, sir. ✍️ (Or madam)

My testimonial: 'I have seen the text, and it is canonical'.

Achewood is a work of staggering genius being given away for $5 a month, and if you really need the Superlative Distraction on the Road to the Grave, plump for the higher tiers and fall so deep into the Achewater you'll never need to surface.
