Friends of the Library! Give a friend or loved one the gift of an Achewood Patreon Membership this year! Select which tier and how many months' worth you want to give, and you'll receive a shareable gift link.

Despite what Wikipedia says, Achewood is not just for beardy, brown-haired dudes who knew which Flight of the Conchords guy they wanted to be! I might introduce it to your recipient as, "Imagine if Monty Python had a modem, but it barked instead of making that "What happens when R2-D2 presses the wrong button on the Death Star noise," and they sent an email to Douglas Adams, but it showed up as..." and then slowly trail off, because nobody's ever really gotten the elevator pitch right. Perhaps just say there's a character in Achewood who's exactly like them, thereby forcing them to go satisfy their curiosity.

I don't do Pledge Drives often, but a weird comic universe living behind a paywall isn't exactly Chris Stapleton sitting comfortably in the new 2026 Ford Raptor with up to four of his favorite apostles, so I hope I can call upon you to help evangelize this special thing we do together.

Thank you, and I'll see you in two hours when we discuss the 0154 b-roll strip! [I'm looking at you, Tiers 2 & 3.]

I gifted a couple subscriptions to friends. I'll be on the lookout for my cut.

Josh Egbert

YouTube is rarely so perfect. Ray must really be yelling loud.

Bruce Wright

I'd like to be big in Slovenia.

Achewood

I listened to that album for a while yesterday. Such a sweet triumph. And, Marian looks like Steven segal now wtf

Achewood

I’m sure they talked about MLMing this thing. A referral bonus would be great, but maybe more accounting support than they wanted to manage right now. A great question though

Achewood

I don’t know man, the more arcane the car/plumbing/wiring question I throw at it, the more someone is holding its beer

Tom P

I refer to achewood as "a celebration of the english language" and "a pleasure for linguistic gentry"

Conor Nelson

Nauru reference (kind of) FTW!

Achewood

Summer in Burek, in The Mood (For Burek) etc

Achewood

That gentry one is new, I like it

Ian Stewart

*looks around at the general state of things* hmm, it would seem that we all forgot how to make success in the computer future

Achewood

I was actually thinking of the tiny island that actually sold away its physical self

Oppido

The real elevator pitch is just sending your friend a link to the strip where Lyle acts like the taco died.

Achewood

I saw an ai image of a cybertruck crossed with a duesenberg, which made me chuckle, so things are grand

Achewood

“Let the work speak for itself.” Fair enough. Tailor it to the target. Woe betide the Cumbrella recipient

Julie (HiDeeHoGal)

1. I wanted to be Mel. IYKYK. 2. Saxophone as a compliment? 3. That 'fuck you' looks etched instead of written, for posterity.

Joshua M

Ray! Don’t be flying that thing! You’re completely high as hell!!

Bill

Ray has flown single-engine aircraft before, and of course Airwolf, but can he master the intricacies of multi-engine flight off the back of an amateur Youtube video and some chemical confidence? Looking forward to the pending international incident no matter which way it unfolds.

s b

I feel like Lyle would be existentially horrified to be in a universe described as such.

Achewood

IDKFML; saxophone was supposed to be an insult here; Lyle’s shredded thumbnail

Condorito

Things get very narrow at either end of the bell curve, both a blessing and a curse for hobbies that have not been inflicted by monetization by venture capital

Achewood

Just completely high as *hell*! I’m taking this as a golf cart reference

Achewood

Plus that can’t be one of the world’s better runways. Like that one on YouTube where the landing gear of the KLM always clips that seaside sno cone vendor or whatever

Tom P

Well, he can drink cheap liquor about it, then.

Achewood

He’s just happy the linguistic gentry self-identify in here so he came come along an FUCK YA

Achewood

How long can one tiger’s tubes and recesses hold out, endoscopy at 11

Oppido

Actually, this suggests an interesting question: What's the one single strip you'd show to a non-Cho that makes the case for Achewood? We all love the GOF arc, but I don't think it should be a new reader's first exposure to the comic. Everest Motorcycle Jump might make for a good on-ramp.

Achewood

Are you saying there aren’t any good dyi server gigafarm vids

boothnavy

SMASH THAT LIKE BUTTON!

Achewood

This thread topic is something of an evergreen. If only they could all be corralled as data. There’s probably one going in the discord even now.

Achewood

Wait a minute, this guy’s just on a sim!

"Complete fucking saxophone" now lives on the tip of my tongue, excellent early Xmas present, thank you

Zen Window

is there a worse place to experience one's first meth withdrawals than from behind the wheel of an airplane over open ocean? mid performing with cirque du soleil would suck pretty hard, i suppose

Bungus Bronbo

I will say, that comic carousel thing would be good, cuz a gifted subscription would currently plop a newbie right here. Which isn't a bad start but start at the start, y'know? Could just make a post of all comics so far in sequential order I suppose

Achewood

Can’t talk now bro I’m …

Achewood

Bless you for thinking that was a good pejorative. As far as I know it’s new but I didn’t actually look

Achewood

Let’s start a list Pilot Group Aerialist Flavored Vape Lobbyist

Achewood

I have slowly been elevating the idea of there *not* being a carousel to crisis status. Thank you for the reminder.

blair

Calvin Trillin described Nauru's fundamental problem as being worth more as fertilizer than as real estate. And that was back in the 1970s.

Achewood

God bless that man. I don't even think they made a new one.

blair

Achewood is a webcomic sired out of George Herrinan by P.G. Wodehouse about how to be a man in the 21st-century US without being a complete saxophone.

blair

Herriman. God-dammit.

Achewood

goddamn, we got pretty close in the lab today boys. I really like that one. Thanks!

rickward

Ray’s on that fire shit, that talking-back-to-YouTube dope, that „berühmt in Deutschland” cook

severecorvid

"Complete saxophone" is great, gonna file it next to "you’re a fuckin plant" and the likes

Achewood

Oh Shit....... Rays going to be hurtling down the other side of Mt Meth just as he's getting to the so called fly over states, I hope he finds another K Cup of Next Monday or he's going to Payne Stewart all over western Kansas.

John Robinson

The fact that I just read this strip while sitting in an Embraer J175, 34,000 feet above the earth, is doing weird things in my head.

Achewood

What smells are coming from the cockpit

Achewood

I shed a tear at each mention of the dear departed Mr. Stewart. The most sauce in golf!

John Robinson

I am (semi-embarassingly) in Seat 1A, so I'm close enough to say: a bit sweet and metallic, with a very mild coffee undertone. (I am lengthy of leg, so I went Premium Economy for this trip, which is apparently the same as First Class on this route. Despite the apparent status of 1A, if given the opportunity again, I'll take 2A or 3A: since there is no seat in front of me, my messenger bag (with my laptop in it) had to be put into the overhead bin. I had planned on using it, and now I can't get to it until the seat belt sign gets turned off.) Any other questions for "Ask A Guy Flying Back To Chicago After A Frustrating Visit That Resolved Basically None Of The Family Business For Which He Made The Trip"?

Achewood

Boy I feel that. Alaska bumped me to 1-A in their embraer both ways on my last trip — presumably for ballast reasons on low-ridership legs — but I also think they're grooming me for their fancy credit card. I tried a "rich guy" move and asked the flight attendant if she'd get my bag down when it was safe and she had zero problem with it. When I'm back in the rows where I belong I imagine such a request will only get me (audibly) crop-dusted. With eye contact.

I debated this whole comment in my head for awhile, is making a dark joke about about a genuine tragedy that happened to someone so admired really something I want to release to the universe? But suddenly it occurred to me that this is a Todd story arc, and I could imagine Todd saying exactly the same thing.

Achewood

I thought it was in good taste. But then again, I know Todd.

Jacquelyn R Walters

Achewood is also for beardy, brown-haired dudettes who knew which Flight of the Conchords guy they wanted to bone.

Achewood

Well don't keep us in suspense, was it the guy on the left or the guy on the right (OK don't answer this on the internet)
