Between family trips, tagging along on my wife's work events, visiting Hayden, and seeing my various fellas, I am in an airplane several times per day. While I cannot say I miss the whiz-bang features of the in-flight magazines ("Food...in Spain!"), or the graphological forensics of their careworn crosswords, I do most certainly miss the inane gallery of products dreamed up by the good people at SkyMall. Just like we'd never even consider eating airplane food while on the ground, we'd also never consider purchasing a $75 doormat which proudly announces "GRANDMA'S PUNKIN' PATCH," yet there we are, our lives on the line five miles in the air, mulling the executive two-speed shoe shiner, or the USB ice cream churner. Go ahead, make up your own SkyMall product in the comments. I'll be right there with you.

B-Roll Strip

And don't forget — the b-roll / "making-of" version of this strip posts two hours later in Tiers 2 & 3. Upgrade for a month to enjoy this and over 400 other upper-tier Achewood pieces!

Give the Gift of Bingeing Comics

It's never too late to give a gift a subscription to the Patreon to a friend or loved one or marginally respected colleague! It's dead easy: choose how many months you want to give, then get a link you can share with them. It won't auto-renew. This is an even better gift now that the archive is binge-able! (see next hot news item)

Read All Strips At Once

In case you missed it, I set up a Collection here in the Achewood Patreon called Read All Strips At Once. You can go in there and click straight through the archive, just like we used to in the old days, when the politicians' hair was brown and the burgers were turkey.

We feelin' some kind of way about dads this week

Achewood

Deriding male culture is part of my breakup with podcasts

Jay Y

Naugahyde is a choice material selection as that's something I wouldn't know existed were it not for Tom Waits' Nighthawks at the Diner. Otherwise, I think the Brookstone catalogues of the past would be disappointed in the future we've made for ourselves.

Josh Egbert

Hey, that celery ribs idea has scientific merit. I am RFK Jr.

Achewood

If I really wanted to make it a dad reference, I would have said Warm Leatherette instead of naugahyde. (The Normal, 1978)

jordan b.

"sleeping too hard gives you a heart attack-ack-ack-ack ..." Do dads still automatically listen to Billy Joel, or has time moved on and now they automatically listen to a Spotify playlist that resembles the Pitchfork Top 50 Albums of 2006?

Achewood

Wait Pitchfork made this mix?!!?! HOMINA HOMINA HOMINA! (trail of footsteps made of fire)

Achewood

I was hoping someone would mention that song, which I most definitely heard while typing that onomatopoeia

GruntyGinMan

Real ones know to park near the exit, not the entrance.

Achewood

It's natural nitrates so that in the event of his death dad can still serve the family as bacon

Achewood

The microphone just dropped through the floorboards, onto the pool table in the man cave below

Matt Mitchell

“The “two-in-one” shoe. It’s a shoe and the other shoe!” (Going totally on memory, forgive inaccuracies)

Bungus Bronbo

If you want a REAL dad's longevity system, simply be Billy Joel. Dude will 1) never die and 2) thanks to his song Goodnight My Angel with the line "someday we'll all be gone but lullabies go on and on" he's actually immortal.

Zen Window

Hands-free Bluetooth connectivity. Perfect florets every time. No stems, no seeds, no leaves. Freeze dry your perfect florets for a healthy astronaut snack. Bake seasoned florets with oil for the Platonic ideal of a "hear me out" party snack everyone will ignore.

Achewood

Broccoli is one of the harder trims in the crisper, especially if you have rotational space mental disorder (RSMD).

Achewood

Was this from Seinfeld or something? Old Letterman? I don't remember it as one of mine. But I am...dad age!

RBM

Of course Little Nephew still listens to Drake

Achewood

The 1993 album with the 1973 cover! Cat Stevens got mad jealous

Julie (HiDeeHoGal)

Ray probably was thinking of Earl Sweatshirt actually, Little Nephew. Not Drake. Never ever Drake.

Achewood

As we explore in the noon installment, it was very meta-dad of me to use a Drake reference, when Kendrick Lamar / AI / auto-tuned metronomes are really the new music stars

Achewood

Drake has 78 top charting hits, and most of them consist of someone mumbling "fuckin' shit" into a sandwich bag

Matt Mitchell

I thought it was one of Phillippe’s misfires when he was burning the candle at both ends trying to compete with Ray. I’m also Dad Age, potentially complicating this.

Achewood

Ah, those were some complicated catalogs. Tutankhamun meerkats, etc. If this was indeed a Me invention, well, I'm kind of proud of it.

Ryan Boyle

Whoa, that's a deep cut

Achewood

I just tried it again. Hard to listen to when not 12 and excited about anything adjacently naughty.

Bungus Bronbo

On today's Top Achewood Comic Highlights! COMING IN WITH A BRONZE MEDAL IT'S "like somebody whose ancestors never had to look for water," for evoking both parking like a bitchy bitch-bitch man AND a highly sophisticated comment on how a hyperindustrialized society disconnects itself from its evolutionary roots! Probably. COMING IN WITH A SILVER MEDAL IT'S every single thing in the final panel for striking the balance between "an objectively insane thing to do to try and escape death" and "yes someone somewhere would reasonably pay money to do this to try and escape death" BUT COMING IN WITH GOLD IT'S GOT TO BE "It sounded like a White Claw sleepin' through an IQ test", which SWEEPS the honorary award categories of "Things that do not translate well," "Brand New Sentence," AND "Outstanding Analogies in the Field of Excellence." Please accept your free Nissan XTerra vehicle. You can drive it around on grey rocks but also have an excellent time just in a neighborhood.

Bruce Wright

A binocular caddy! Desk ramen boiler! Hard case for your tape dispenser! Cheese molds in the shape of alphabet blocks! Btw, "advancing disdain for a reality that no longer interests him" has been my ground state since New Order broke up

Tim Hulsizer

I believe at 40 you are still issued a boxed set of Steely Dan on vinyl

Achewood

In a world where Instagram reels provide more laughs per minute than SNL, 24 hours a day, how can a dad believe in anything?

Achewood

Thank you! I enjoy that the harder I work on strips, the lower the Likes count will be. We're currently rocking a 12, out of 2500 readers, with a usual Like score of about 80. Do most people just read this in email, and not interact with voting stuff? Should I cease caring about this dangerous and potentially misleading metric? More at 11

Achewood

oh man that would be so sick

Ryan Boyle

DadTech reached its pinnacle with the app-enabled wireless meat thermometer, and found its lowest common denominator with Dude Wipes. Mission accomplished, Brookstone.

Shawn Warren

Beef kind of doing the Betty Boop St James Infirmary thing there

b.zap

goddammit beef put on some pants

Matt Mitchell

Looked it up, yup this was you. Even better, P put in the lines “save exactly 50%! “Do you smell what I am cooking?” “

Jay Y

No worries, you're definitely not getting ratio'd.

Jay Y

I used to have freshman composition students write about the music they cared about and it basically alternated years as to whether they preferred Drake or thought he was corny.

Achewood

But can a dad truly know what that even means

Achewood

But have you seen Hey Dude shoes, which are somehow more offensive than Crocs as daywear Bluetooth meat thermometers are obnoxious because you have to stay within range of the meat, and if you go to the bathroom your tri-tip will be ruined

Achewood

I tried to make it that dorky Shuffle dance, but yeah, cab Calloway is a cool fallback

Achewood

Isn't it always so weird that he's nude but not naked?

E Corcoran

Now I am imagining Grandma punking someone. Punking them real hard.

Achewood

Straight up spinach in the jelly donut pocket

Jonathan

If I had a nickel for every time I've seen Onstad call people bitches for trying to park close to a retail establishment's front door, I'd have two nickels.

denv_eric

In nearly two-thousand Achewood strips is this the first time Beef has assumed this cursed front-facing perspective? He bears a striking resemblance to The Death Sound.

Rob Dalton

Todd’s Portable Regret Sauna™—A collapsible, single-person steam tent that recreates the emotional humidity of texting your ex at 2:14 am. Includes a laminated card: “You did this.”

Achewood

Your fortune may double in 2026!

Achewood

Dang, imagine the odor of a humid Todd!

Bungus Bronbo

It's such a pointless metric that can potentially make you drift away from what you want to create and instead you create what gets reactions. Long term this can make you angry, what with the repression of or perceived indifference to the art you enjoy making most. The anger bleeds into your art, which increases reactions, which increases anger. This vicious cycle seriously drives engagement but man it does make a lot of people unhappy, as seen everywhere online. Don't aim for a quantitative high score. That'll also lead to endless dissatisfaction because on those events where, say, a strip gets 250 likes, you'll always be comparing it to that high water mark, and you'll less like strips you loved for scoring lower on what is absolutely an arbitrary metric. Kind of like an IQ test? Aim for making the strips you like the most, as you do.

b.zap

I just assume everyone knows I love this stuff

jordan b.

I think it's like a psychological profile thing. I got a Van Halen box set that only covered the Sammy Hagar era -- from what I've read it's because I bought five different kinds of light beer within a six-month span. A buddy of mine got the Doobie Brothers because he had a sideburn phase.

Professor Hazard

it's weirder that when they were all kids they had clothes and hairdos, but then decided to be nude regular cats

Professor Hazard

assume that patronage is a form of Like and everything after that is bonus.

Paul Kim

You're writing for the people of 2046, if in that far off year people still have taste!

kdusjjdhxksj

Some kind of ai enabled executive golf liar that tells your buddy the grass is fucked up when you miss a shot

kdusjjdhxksj

It brings me no joy to report that there are still drake fans and they're all basically little nephew

This and everyone else’s replies in this subject are greatly appreciated. Thank you. It’s good to be reminded that subscription is Like. Now, to increase subscriptions…

Achewood

I miss that little guy. Oh wait, here he is!

Idiot Man

oh, damn dude. I feel like I have done a crime now for not mashing the heart button regularly. In my mind it is implicit that basically everything you write is gold that I will cherish in my heart. a thousand years ago dukes and kings would just hire a guy for life to write whatever music he wanted to and occasionally produce on demand a dirge about his mistress that fell off a horse and died. I am vastly more reduced than a king, zeroed out on mistresses or horses, so I'm more in the dollars per month range, but if circumstances were different you'd have your own tower hanging off the keep to just do whatever in perpetuity.

Achewood

There have been a couple others, but it is hard for my brain to draw this and still make it Beefy

Achewood

You are a King of this Realm, Idiot Man, and I thank Thee.

Achewood

Dang, this information SUCKS dude! Sigh

Achewood

This would be the only video game I would play. Figure out how to win various box sets (Johnny cash sun recordings, r kelly the peepee on a lady years, etc)

FactWino

A drone that looks like a basketball

Sedric and Charlie

My opinion honestly held is that dads carry the dad- prefix with them. In a place I hang out in for fans of experimental music, I remember watching two guys fuming bitterly that they had aggressively schooled their children on the music of the occult, sexually perverse industrial group Coil, but those kids grew up listening to music such as The Spice Girls regardless. I did not know how to elucidate to them that they had dad-rocked Coil

I don't always or maybe even usually remember to click the I LIKE THIS PLEASE RECORD MY OPINION icon

Achewood

There’s a country song in there somewhere

Achewood

I wish they’d let you turn it off

Achewood

Agreed. But also, kids like hooks, and coil don’t play that game.

Achewood

Screen below grate. It only shows movies of satan’s face

Achewood

Can’t see the propellers. It blows your mind.

Abby

Can verify, the dad at my house automatically listens to so much Billy Joel.

Taylor

I didn’t even know Patreon had a like button. I concur with others that worrying about that number can rot your brain. I also think I speak for others that choosing to spend money on this particular momentary distraction on the road to the grave, on an ongoing basis, in 2026’s internet with an endless free supply of distractions, is a signal of approval greater than tapping a little heart icon ever could be.

Taylor

Parking near the cart return is the pro move.

Tennis Shoe Scuff-O-Matique NO ONE likes the look of shiny, brand-new footwear. Simply place your new shoes in the Scuff-O-Matique, and HUZZAH! you have shoes like a normal person who's worn them and not just accidentally forgotten to remove the desiccant silica gel packet from the toebox.
