Every time I try to characterize music like the sort that Drake makes, I get caught in a doomloop, and end up spending more time on the insult than anybody ever spent on those songs. They're one of those painful reminders to people like me that the less you put into your art, and the dumber you think the audience is, the more billions of dollars you will make. Meanwhile, I spend one hundred hours creating a quietly-textured scenario about a Teddy bear's hair, and lose ten followers. Tomorrow's recipe is a realm of ass (for me, not you, because I respect you too much to Drake this scene).

The Drake vs Kendrick Lamar beef will live in a lot of peoples' memories, young and old. I never found Drake's music offensive but it was insipid filler pop, easily dismissed. Finding out he was one of those pedophilionaires that are everywhere nowadays though? EW. (not me clinging desperately to a shred of youth, mom dynamics are different than dad dynamics)

Dammit Beef what'd I say about them pants

Check out Travis Scott for a more current example of underwhelming hip hop stardom

The idea that the yam needs to be roofied to enjoy Drake is unintentionally accurate in an incredibly dark and specific vector according to one Kenrick Lamar.

Achewood

Say more. It sounds like these fellas have a …dis battle?

Achewood

I will do this on private mode so I am not infected

Drake is a peepee on the ladies guy?!

"METADAD" and "Samsonite Bathroom" are both outstanding band names.

Nate

I can give you the absolute pinnacle highlight: Kendrick implied pedophilia on the part of Drake in the musical double entendre lyric, "he's trying to strike a chord and it's probably *A minor.*"

Bruce Wright

T'was ever thus, but we do appear to be approaching some sort of stupidity singularity

2 pts for Dave Barry Reference

The bit about getting the Chinese orange chicken with chow mein made me think about something I heard over the weekend. This fella suggested that a killer money-making innovation would be to offer not only orange and lemon varieties of this dish, but perhaps counter-intuitively, blueberry. It sounds really wrong right off the bat, but it's really stuck in my mind; I'm half convinced it could be a huge sensation.

I had cherry duck in this style once and can confirm that any fruit glaze makes for good times.

Achewood

Man, which thing was the Barry ref? It must have been subconscious.

Achewood

Big if true. Kendrick Lamar is the one who rocked the world by wearing jeans recently, right?

Achewood

So like it was his morning peepee after a big pizza supreme dinner?

Achewood

If the government keeps allowing new music, things can only get worse

Julie (HiDeeHoGal)

Like R Kelly the morning after the first dinner of asparagus season.

You don’t just mean at the drive thru, for his peepee victims, do you

Achewood

I feel like the weekend just started

I believe Kenrick Lamar is, generally speaking, in the world-rocking business, and business is booming. During the back and forth, Drake's (globally agreed upon to be weak) jabs back were primarily aimed at implying Kendrick Lamar was not a good dad and husband, so there was a photo of him with his wife and kids that, through dint of its radiant wholesomeness, seemed to refute multiple tracks at once by showing a glimpse of what looks genuinely like honest family goodness. Lamar also has many records of the noblest commonly used metal, and the platinum doesn't lie when I tune into a track with my unlimited music subscription service of choice.

A "What? saved is a "What?" earned. I hear this a lot.

Roast Beef's featureless bonch will never cease to unnerve me.

Nicholas Williams

Like "canard aux cerises" or some kind of Chinese-food version because that would be I WANT IT. NOW.

Bruce Wright

Oh, any "would be a good name for a band" thing is a classic Barry riff

Achewood

He won the Great Outdoor Fight with that smooth area

Achewood

Ah of course. In junior high thought I invented that rejoinder but clearly I had just stolen it from the big guy.

Achewood

I just listened to some Kendrick Lamar and all I heard was the mumbly computer burbles even more burbly than Drake. Maybe I just got unlucky though and the rest of his songs have melodies?

Douglas Wykstra

If it's the the "computer burbles" that cause your ears to cringe, try something from his first 2 albums, which have more traditional hip-hop instrumentation. If it's the "being post-2010 hip hop" of it all that causes it, better to just let this one go by.

Nate

I think in the main the focus is on his clever wordplay and keen turn of phrase in a genre that is itself a sort of phrase-turn arms race. As Douglas said, the sounds are very post 2010 hip hop which is itself a sort of post-melodic era of repetitious rhythmic scaffold.
