I had fun with this one. I usually make sure I have some fun while writing and producing, so that there is some fun for you to enjoy, but it felt great to flex the classic muscle in this very tried and true rhythm that we saw a lot of back in the first heyday. We're in another heyday now, of course — primarily defined by the strip coming out with alarming consistency. I don't seem to be able to get things done in six panels very often any more, but I do ponder the possibility from time to time. Perhaps I need to go see a movie, so I can do Roomba Cinema. Everybody in my life wanted me to see Hamnet, but from what I read that movie is about a child who is dying and then dies, and I'm more of a Naked Gun guy. Thanks but no thanks on the Law & Order: SVU stuff.

I hear that Hamnet thing. My wife loves movies about people's problems, but I prefer giant insect flicks

Achewood

I'm like, I have to spend all day dodging the mother fucking news cycle, and now at night I have to watch a child die and all the weeping and crying? Fuck THAT evening plan

Uncle Elephant

"Must be nice to have problems." = my third Achewood spit-take today. Everyone in my vicinity thanks you, Chris.

Julie (HiDeeHoGal)

1. See Iron Lung if you're into that. I'm not despite being a long time fan of Markiplier, but I hear it is really good. 2. Yo momma is an EthnoOffset, Pat.

Achewood

Was it just saliva (base model) or perhaps some kind of coffee? Mega Points if it was kvass.

Achewood

I like how most of the Iron Lung actors don't have wikipedia pages

blair

"Pig's lunch in a bottle"; that must have hurt to leave on the cutting room floor.

blair

As an aside, due to looking through the wrong part of my glasses I first read that as "pig's bonch in a bottle."

Achewood

that's next week's punchline

Achewood

It did, a bit. But it distracted from the momentum and I do like that I have the b-strips so such things can live another day.

blair

..and a quick dialogue search show's that the first appearance of "bonch" in Achewood was in the alt text for March 10, 2005 with Pat and the banjo. And thus is the cycle of nature renewed.

Rob Dalton

jebus h dramaporn — do NOT watch "hamnet." it's like compressing eight months of watching a loved one die into a warm, shotgunned beer can full of all the children's plague tears.

Rob Dalton

FUCK THAT EVENING PLAN

KTB

“I don't seem to be able to get things done in six panels very often any more, but I do ponder the possibility from time to time” I submit, sir, that the critical spirit within distorts your perception of the value you are now packing into a single strip. The first six panels of 0166 and the following seven panels of 0166 are two comics.

Achewood

I'm frankly a bit surprised it took me that long to use that word. I'd been saying it daily since a team of scientists discovered it in high school.

Achewood

I am very happy to be vindicated in this. Probably happier still that I have not seen that miserable film. What happed to FUCKING TELLING JOKES

Omurice

I prefer the embroidery line over the jingle man version, although they’re both excellent.

Achewood

That is very kind of you, thank you. Looking back at the strip, I agree that it could have ended at Jingle Man, and would have done so when I was doing a few strips a week, but when everybody's waiting 6.99 days for a comic, I like it to be a little meatier. Unnecessary? Maybe, I'm too far inside the jar to know how it would look from the outside.

Achewood

It was honestly a tough call, but I like the idea that ray has this old-fashioned concept of a jingle man.

Joshua M

Ray gets into a fight with his Jingle Man, decides to beat him at his own game, records an album of AI jingles, one billion streams on Spotify, cover of Modern Jingle Magazine.

Achewood

meanwhile the stodgy and humorless highbrow publication, The Jingleist, refuses to acknowledge him due to the use of AI. A jingle-off ensues, like the story of poor John Henry.

Amy Lewis

'Cept in this case it's John Henry Jingleheimer Schmidt

Achewood

🎶His mucosal sloughing is my mucosal sloughing TOOOO🎶

Bungus Bronbo

If you ask me if I'd prefer 6 panels of gold a week or 12 panels of gold, then I'd recommend double checking which of those numbers is bigger. "DAY TIME IS RASCAL TIME!" "Must be nice to have problems." Pity the lower tiers who cannot behold. But be careful Onstad, if you have too much fun you might get an ego.

Showbiz is down

The Good Poster

The text-around-Pat-face in the middle right sparked an ancient rusty neuron where I remembered some of your early Pat development ideas, one of which was that after eating at a restaurant he would write angry reviews to the chef around the rim of his plate, using a marker and a journal for rough drafts that he had brought with him for this purpose. I wonder if he still does this.

Nicholas Williams

Fuck dude I NEED that incensed Pat face on a shirt. All with the WORDS AROUND IT. It fucking delights me.

Nate

I could use a little theraphlute in my life

Jay

Voting yes on "Daytime is Rascal Time" on a t-shirt

Achewood

This is an amazing deep cut, I bet I haven't thought about that bit in 15 years at least.

Achewood

I mean, maybe a CD could do the same thing, but honestly I think Ray just likes the luxury flex of it being live personal flautists.

Achewood

Soon I will have a Print On Demand shirt shop where shirts that I will sell One of can live. (I am not joking about this)

Achewood

The word Rascal seems to be feeling particularly juicy right now, it's hitting right

Achewood

Maybe I should use this b-roll strip as a freebie to show Frees and Tier 1's what's going on? Is that cool?

C C

Man, Ray's new therapy regime sounds like a gay car trick, that's a Friday Fact for you. It's a vice cop's dream, this therapy has Immoral Purpose written all over it. Where did he even find this outfit???

Achewood

A one Dr Tobias Fünke, Analyst-Therapist

Nate

Maybe the luxury is the therapy. A consistent reminder that you're living extremely large.

Achewood

that would also explain all his white leather couches and white carpets. Who even does that any more? Oh and the glass brick shower enclosure. Miami Vice hit that kid hard.

LemonSoiree

Hamnet was fantastic, but if it ain’t your thing, it ain’t your thing! And that’s ok, we all like different stuff! I am happy to report that the new Naked Gun was extremely funny (Pamela Anderson killing it in successive flicks between that and The Last Showgirl!), and I can heartily recommend that as a fun, light-hearted romp.

Gozan

Frankly, the shenanigans in the Naked Gun movies are more likely to end up as SVU cases than Hamnet

Bungus Bronbo

Absolutely makes sense to me. It's your work to do with as you'd like.
