Don't worry, you'll see Ray and Beef again, but let us (me) not forget there is a fairly extensive cast of other characters out there. They can often be found quippin' vinegar, blackin' out on the bus, or otherwise one-upping each other in bold and inventive new ways. In this instance, Doc Andretti has taken it upon himself to evaluate wellness solutions which do not involve expensive pills (he has heard these things exist, but never seen them). And yes, you are encouraged to meme panel ten to your heart's content.

I've included a teaser of the Friday strip that accompanies all these comics in Tiers 2 & 3. Please consider upgrading for a while to explore the massive wealth of In-Universe extras!

B-Roll Strip

Don't forget — the b-roll / "making-of" version of this strip posts two hours later in Tiers 2 & 3. Upgrade for a month to enjoy this and over 400 other upper-tier Achewood pieces! Or upgrade forever, and find your life vastly more entertained.

Give the Gift of Bingeing Comics

It's never too late to give a gift a subscription to the Patreon to a friend or loved one or marginally respected colleague! It's dead easy: choose how many months you want to give, then get a link you can share with them. It won't auto-renew. This is an even better gift now that the archive is binge-able! (see next hot news item)

Read All Strips At Once

In case you missed it, I set up a Collection here in the Achewood Patreon called Read All Strips At Once. You can go in there and click straight through the archive, just like we used to in the old days, when the politicians' hair was brown and the burgers were turkey.

Josh Egbert

Man, panel 9 just walked in here & gave me the business.

jordan b.

I'm picking up a vibe that Rola Corbett is Dr Andretti's niece or other relation.

Omnithea

Andretti stone cold thrill seeker.

Achewood

Man, Google doesn't even *have* a Rola Corbett

Achewood

That was when I knew I had a strip

zaratustra

does mr. gary even remember the address of the group meeting

Achewood

WHO BILLS WHO = set to AC/DC Who Made Who

Tom P

arthur should be able to access health plans through his state exchange, suggesting another deeper tragedy, such as having become stateless on a dare or having sex dyslexia

s b

Hard Pills for Times of Question

Josh Egbert

Panel 10 also very germane to my current ulcers

Jay Y

The Movie That Cocaine Made, excellent reference. I always have for no justifiable reason associated Doc with Mario Andretti so the fact that his car isn't fancy amuses me.

Chris Martin

Arthur you really should be on Prep if you're going to keep going behind the basketball equipment

Achewood

He could also just be too overwhelmed by the entire interface of the industry, given to quitting, etc. We have a lot to learn about this player.

Achewood

The person whose pole Arthur smoked behind the basketball equipment might have actually been an impostor, and the act designed just to fool Pat.

b.zap

Oh dear lawd let me not get overtaken by a dirt bike

Achewood

Feel free to print it out and hand it to your medical service provider

Josh Egbert

I want to distribute it to my current employer

Achewood

Originally it was plural dirt bikes, but that seemed too vivid and dramatic. Dr. Andretti's friend was overtaken by a single dirt bike.

Achewood

Hard chuckles, but true. Can you get AIDS just from smoking poles though? 45 years into the epidemic and I have no idea.

b.zap

Middle one all doing a wheelie

Achewood

A Miata. How utterly discrediting.

Chris Martin

Generally speaking I believe not, but it's not impossible. And straight or otherwise, we all know acts of love can take us farther than we expected.

Achewood

Every honest man has dreamed of dying beneath a convoy like this

Achewood

Tell me about it. I bought a necklace at Fred Meyer once.

Brian Sutton

Now if you find actual pills while out on a walk I can guarantee they do some very specific things.

Achewood

Here in Portland, if I accidentally step on some, I throw that shoe away.

Anthony Thompson

I, too, wish Arthur had a Honda. Little else makes sense right now.

Achewood

I like to think of him in a Del Sol, but a '78 Civic wagon is probably what would happen, given his money management abilities

Anthony Thompson

Driver-side door a different color, but that’s straight kintsugi when you think about it

jordan b.

wasn't that the name of the massage therapist that banned Beef?

Marc Harkness

I share the Doctor's skepticism about pills that can't be explained. My wife has explained to me the difference between probiotics and macrobiotics and the like several times but I keep on glazing over.

Achewood

He unfurls like the hibiscus in its tropical warmth

Achewood

Apparently we have so many trillions of bacteria in our colons that it's literally incredible we aren't constantly, loudly farting. Like when a car crashes and the horn gets stuck in the "on" position

Achewood

Kintsugi! That’s the word. I always just stop at wabi-sabi, the precursor condition

Achewood

Oh lord what a Philippe scooter

Achewood

Look at me, overextending the universe beyond the capacity of my own memory

Zen Window

Doc Andretti just straight up Fight Clubbin' Arthur's scene. Arthur...the little rash on the side of your neck that would heal if only you could stop wearing scarves.

Tom P

an understandable response to the modern world, yet also one doomed to failure

A. C.

"and are you really a doctor" love it

Achewood

Arthur has not seen a lot of doctors.

Achewood

When my friends and I saw Fight Club in the theater we were so excited that when we walked out we were pretending to kick each other

Achewood

Yup. Reminds me of the way my dad feels when trying to deal with his timeshare.

Achewood

Oh wait, that was in a B-roll strip, so she is in that embryonic pre-canon position.

Jay Y

Just as Arthur's star glasses and neckerchief mask a deep anger, a man could conceivably have ulterior motives for wearing a head mirror.

Julie (HiDeeHoGal)

I kinda want to lend Arthur a few 0.5 mg clonazepams so he and Dr Andretti will stay close.

usagisteve

Dr. Andretti should really hire a social worker for these sort of conversations

Zen Window

I'm thinking you're not using lend the same way a neighbor does in reference to lawn care implements. On the other hand, given a certain kind of neighbor's tendency toward never giving back something lent to them, maybe you are.

Julie (HiDeeHoGal)

Arthur is obviously quite an anxious guy and no therapy will reach him until that anxiety is quelled to a certain degree. Doc Andretti will know this. Then Arthur can hit me back when he has his own stash. I am a "good" "neighbor" for sure.

blair

"Real pills, powerful pills, pills that sizzle over the plate." That's exactly what I want, but asking probably gets you some goddamn list.

Achewood

You either need a billion dollars or a bmx guy with a backpack

Achewood

I’m not sure how great a doctor Andretti is. But he can do operations like nobody’s business (eg, exhume Ray’s heart for his Christmas card)

Julie (HiDeeHoGal)

That's why I read him as pill mill. I could be wrong though.

Jay Y

Ah, clonazepam. I miss the sleep I got while on it, but not the circumstances for needing it. And he is a pill mill. I remember him trying to prescribe something for Ray's piss shiver.

Bruce Wright

Arthur gone snap one day, and it ain’t gonna be pretty

usagisteve

Hopefully Dr. Andretti has some good psych referrals in his area

Travis O.

To Arthur's credit, a Honda would be/ is the best thing about a lot of people

J. Alex

If Arthur got a Honda the most interesting thing about him would remain his glasses.

Matthew Miller

I see Arthur in a CR-V. Mechanically sound but with a damaged passenger side door. Brown, with contrasting blue painter's tape preventing leaks. My hypothesis is based on the CR-V's reputation as a car that is simultaneously sexless and very, very gay.

Tucker

"Hand it to your medical service provider" - I'd like this on the exam room wall, "On a scale of panel 1 to panel 10, how pissed off are you?"

Stavro

This is like when Ray and Beef showed up at the party. Achewood is now permanently a comic about Arthur and the Doc

Douglas Wykstra

A conversation between an accredited doctor who believes the initials after his name free him from the burden of observing even the smallest social niceties and an empath whose postmodern acceptance of the absurdities of his psuedomedicine routine will not prevent him from dying of easily-treatable colon cancer. . . is this a comic about How We Live Today?

Alex Schlesinger

This is going to result in one hellova t shirt.

Bill

I can't help but suspect that Doc Andretti wasn't so much coming to "check out" as he was to "flex on" this branch of the wellness industry.

Achewood

Oh, it’s going to be an amazing strip / arc / me getting 18+ classification on Patreon

Achewood

Volta! Love that concept. And I’m glad his response actually landed that way. It’s hard to know, when you deal in small sentences and jay-pegs

Achewood

“At least he doesn’t pollute as much as he could”

Achewood

I bet he hangs something characteristically weird off the rear view mirror

Achewood

It’s an allegory about Steve Jobs

Achewood

I’ve always wanted to release a 350-word tshirt. I get weird kicks.

Glenn Ramsy

Giving Mr. Gary a blow job behind the bleachers is the Honda of sex acts.

Achewood

I don’t think doc would electively do the work to flex, unless it wandered into his office. Even his dis on naturopathy / Ayurveda is delivered with (I hope, at least) a kind of flat, factual affect.

Chris Warren

Jeez, Arthur hit me hard with this one. Roast Beef-level hard.

Jay

Jiminy crickets, Arthur's got some guns on him!

GruntyGinMan

Guess that's why he runs the anger management group!

GruntyGinMan

Man Arthur doesn't have Steve Jobs money! He can't even afford a Honda!

GruntyGinMan

Travis let me tell you about my Honda Ridgeline

Gregory Sheets

I feel like Arthur and Dr. Andretti rode into Achewood today on a dirt bike with a side car, together for the first time, their every move the even newer tradition.

The Good Poster

Thank you for giving Arthur cat emotions ears. I wonder if the fact that Ray's can't really do that plays into his personality at all

severecorvid

Just another day in Health Money Pill Hell

cody

Uncomfortable with how relatable the “a Honda would be the best thing about me” line is.

Achewood

I suppose if one really had the Ferrari of sec acts going on, one would do it in *front* of the bleachers

Achewood

Arthur has a lot of raw. I wonder how he and Beef would get along over a bowl of straight won ton.

Achewood

It’s all triceps. From reaching for things that are going over his head

Achewood

I do want to explore the secondary characters more. The hard part: depicting a conversation between Emeril and Spongebath.

Achewood

Ray’s are so full of Botox he doesn’t even know they’re there.

Achewood

Alighieri’s updated Inferno

Achewood

All clean and new, no mistakes yet

the tesla of sex acts is when a stripper gets diarrhea during a lap dance.

rickward

once again a comment has led me to peruse the OG strips because of a throwaway word or phrase. In this case, “Honda of Sex Acts” has reminded me of the Guild of Purpose-Driven Commodores. Were I funnier, I’d have more to offer than “Guild of People-Driven Hondas”

rickward

neighbors on benzos steal more than usual, ask me how I know
