Roast Beef walks from a late one at The Smoke to his favorite all-night won ton joint. This plays in his head, on loop, entrancing. Always alone, hood up, no earphones, bad anxiety, just straight Werking it by his lonesome. He didn't even have Guinness, it was just cola.

(Back in 2012 I put GarageBand on my phone and wrote music when I couldn't sleep — which was every night. This piece emerged early on, and always reminded me of the above scenario.)

I take it that you, too, find David Carson-style typographical play a bit twee. It was an accident, but it amused me as a gift from the spirit world, so I kept it.

As a dude also with anxieties, I couldn't imagine not wearing headphones while listening to music.

even if I was, like, in the woods

Animalicious!

I like the glitchy bits and transitions over to more melodic sections. Reminds me of Out Hud and Black Dice. I love music, but my flavor of anxiety involves concern about not hearing someone/something approach me, so headphones in public make me feel a strange sort of "blind" to my surroundings.

You ever listen to Andrea Cardillo? You may have a soulmate

It's like if the guys in A Certain Ratio witnessed an awful crime during one of their shows, and although it sapped them of spark and tooth, they were somehow forced to continue playing.

Achewood

So many new bands to explore! Thank you. I believe beef shares your situational awareness concerns, hence the no headphones / inner soundtrack qualification here.

Achewood

I was confused at first, because he is a romance man, but I can hear it in the melodies. Is that what you meant?

Achewood

No what? You’re vaguenegging, dude!

Achewood

This is kind of fun! (Listening to that band. Nice and simple, guys in a room, heard david Bowie a lot when young.)

Nicholas Williams

They were scene colleagues of Joy Division, and what they lacked in magisterial despair they made up in not moping around all the time.

Bruce Wright

Well, some of his tracks have a loungier feel than others. I dunno, it just occurred to me. I went through a 15 minute lounge phase some years ago

This plays in a 1970s detective show over B-roll of of the quirky private eye driving his signature automobile around town pursuant to the investigation.

It's like if Explosions In The Sky discovered samplers and synths.

I believe Roast Beef is the bassist for this band in his head. The bass is a Rickenbacker 4001 in Jetglo (black.) The amp is an Ampeg vintage SVT with an 8x10 cab (because of course it is.) He worked on that tone with much patience, until it was just right to complement the synths.

The perfect mix of post punk and chaotic anxiety spikes

Thanks, I got the sense everybody hated it!

Thanks! I think of the blippy bits of noise as swarms of cyber flies

I think you just named your own dream rig, which also coincides with mine
