Did you know that I was doing a mini-arc about men's butt health? Well, I didn't, until I started writing this one and realized that like seven of the last nine strips have been about dudes' asses. "What gives?!" I asked myself, looking nervously over my shoulder to see if everyone was mad at me. I guess this is what happens when your only form of communication with other men is listening to them shitting at the gym. (That describes my life pretty well right now.) Anyhow, I'm going to try and do wistful Cornelius Bear strips about mortality and existential resignation for a while. Sorry everybody. Have an ass I mean a nice friday

B-Roll Strip

Don't forget — the b-roll / "making-of" version of this strip posts two hours later in Tiers 2 & 3. Upgrade for a month to enjoy this and over 400 other upper-tier Achewood pieces! Or upgrade forever, and find your life vastly more entertained.

Give the Gift of Bingeing Comics

It's never too late to give a gift a subscription to the Patreon to a friend or loved one or marginally respected colleague! It's dead easy: choose how many months you want to give, then get a link you can share with them. It won't auto-renew. This is an even better gift now that the archive is binge-able! (see next hot news item)

Read All Strips At Once

In case you missed it, I set up a Collection here in the Achewood Patreon called Read All Strips At Once. You can go in there and click straight through the archive, just like we used to in the old days, when the politicians' hair was brown and the burgers were turkey.

Panel 7 is an all-timer standalone comic

Morgan

Pat's ass-dar went off in Panel 2 and he sprinted all the way from his apartment between then and panel 8

Josh Egbert

Not every woman wants a good baby... finally, I understand why I was conceived

Achewood

That was when I knew I had a strip

Achewood

Yes. You can't see it, but he only has one Clarks Wallabee on

Achewood

My guess is the vendor already had a mold from a recent project for the Tom of Finland line

b.zap

Oh look, pistachios!

Josh Egbert

It wasnt "woah talk about breakfast for my ass"?

Achewood

Thanks. I can't in good conscience post a single-panel comic after everyone's been waiting all week, so I left the rest of the strip in.

Achewood

LYLE: [reeks of cig sweat and onions]

Achewood

My colonoscopist did NOT think it was funny when I tucked some for him to find

Achewood

Lyle was trying hard to steal the show here.

Zen Window

Holy shit, panel 7. Apparently, they did send a poet.

Zen Window

hahaha it's a FUCK ASS FRIDAY

Tom P

and here Ray was posin like he had "no problem takin power back there"

Shepton

Having an ass is gay. Huh. I never thought about it that way before. And I'm definitely taking the incorrect message from this strip by focusing on that part.

John Robinson

The haste with which I clipped the bottom row of panels and sent it to my dudes grouptext...

Josh Egbert

Just for Pat to swoop in with an iconic Panel 7. Bummer.

Achewood

Hero's Journey, Friday, potato, po-tah-to

Achewood

I definitely went to rural high school with dudes who hated that they had an ass, just like the people they feared most

Achewood

I think the distinction is that here, he is "self-powering," and that's more clinical, less like a party

Achewood

No judgement zone, have at it

Achewood

That was when I knew I had a strip. (Especially because that line emerged after 90% of the strip was already written)

Achewood

what's up Wisconsin, don't forget the horseradish

2scrogz

You had a strip at "Not every woman wants a good baby." That was the line that sold me. Then you put the cherry on top with, "what if I died because I lived in denial of my own ass." We eatin' good today, and by that I mean that we all just eatin' a REALM of ass with Teodor.

Traedran

I'll add another voice to the same chorus, Panel 7 is some cask-strength Very Special Old Achewood. It just hits the spot. The idea of women specifically wanting Lyle-quality children is something else. Give it a few decades and Lyle won't be the only one writing-in "Scuzz" in census paperwork's ethnic background pages.

Crumbles

Everybody dance like you don't live in toxic denial of the ass in your pants! (PS I must also echo others saying how absolutely perfect panel 7 is.)

Tom P

the distinction between self power and other power is great indeed, a massive dharma gulf. much like ray's asshole.

Achewood

Shirt update! Or maybe it's time for me to finally offer some Ass Pants

Walter Biggins

“Beast mode at the sperm bank” is the catchphrase that I never knew I needed until now

Achewood

Sometimes it feels like I write the strips just to set up those quiet asides. Thanks!

Achewood

I wish Nietzsche had lived to this day, a day in which he could contemplate this freely on Substack and write thinkpieces for Cosmo

Oppido

Look, Ray didn't HAVE to get the design with the arms flush against the sides like that. That's kind of on him. That said, our guy is having serious Colonel Ephraim PATSD in the last panel. (It's like PTSD, with an extra letter whose meaning you can guess.)

Achewood

Thanks. It always amazes me what the readership really clicks with. Not complaining.

Achewood

I think what's working here is that the idea of a woman "not wanting a good baby" is so primally incorrect and unresolvable, that we experience that confusion which resembles the surprise of laughter

Oppido

Doing the ol' family-inheritance dash

Achewood

quick, which musical artist could most believably have written this single

Traedran

You could get away with doing the whole strip for just the Lyle ones. The old, "Male crackheads will do anything for ten dollars," including things they physically cannot do (in most circumstances) lives in my head and has been used in conversation. His lines are needlessly hilarious.

2026-09-20 10:00 These B roll strips make me realize how much work goes into this
2026-04-03 17:42

Achewood

This is what happens when you cheap out on the model needing significant sprue and flash cleanup post-casting/printing. Flush arms are just so much cheaper. A cop-out, with predictable results.

Oppido

Also: Check out Pat's arms in panels 9 and 11! Those look like "hitting the weights while fantasizing about bumping into Rod Huggins" muscles.

Oppido

Ray should've gone to the folks who did his ChatSack mock-ups. Those were quality.

Achewood

The b-roll strip (which posts at noon Pacific, this isn’t a b-roll strip) is particularly flush with crass outtakes today

Achewood

You noticed! And that cap sleeve deep V

Traedran

Lyle offering Tre-Odor the second cup of a bra he found at the police station, the first cup of which he was licking.

Bruce Wright

“Not every woman wants a good baby” I chortled

Clench and Cheese

The bobblehead version of the peg would carry inherent risks.

Achewood

I may have to start a separate brand just so that panel can have its own tax entity

Achewood

I can think of at least three. Especially if using cologne as lube

Nate

I think if Ray took a second look at this whole situation he would realize that his hero's journey was always going to include astroglide.

Amit Katz

"That's a little version of me, Roast Beef. I want you to have it."

Bruce Wright

Adventures in Scale Modeling!

jordan b.

deny a whole REALM of ass, Ray. ( Pat's word bubble escaping panel eight is an appropriate touch. )

Achewood

[Gandalf, beckoning to Téodor, before a windswept mountain pass that looks like the crack between two cheeks] Behold your future, young Téodor

Achewood

This angle is explored in the noon outtakes. A frank discussion on empty consumerist baubles (Beef's opinion, anyway)

Michael G.

Hell of a way to announce new merch, Onstad.

Achewood

Astroglide Heroic Sensations™, now in cinnamon musk

Achewood

They folded. Cared too much about the work, too meticulous, unprofitable.

Achewood

Ah, right. Thank you. My legacy

Asherdan

"Not every woman wants a good baby." Dead. I am dead. This finally killed me. Now I have to post as a ghost and pay for the Patreon in boo-bucks. Sorry, Onstad, you can redeem them in the next world, buddy.

Asherdan

This is some inside the merch info that I didn't know I desired.

Asherdan

This post having the "Load Replies" phrasing beneath it is ::chef kiss::

Joshua M

It’s another Fuck You [in the ass for medical purposes] Friday

Asherdan

Oh dang, I just went back and realized that Lyle's little gestures with the figurine are so funny they made me extra-dead.

Nate

Ohhh, a musky scent for a husky gent

Shawn Ritchie

"not every woman wants a good baby" oh my fucking god that single panel is SOOOOOO FUCKING GOOOD. Lyle's entire gestalt contained and expressed within.

Sam Julian

not every woman wants a good baby I nearly spit water all over my keyboard

A. C.

another golden lyle line

Bungus Bronbo

I forget where I read it but it's one of humanity's great mistakes to confuse agreement for truth. You get three people together and I'm fifteen minutes they'll be agreeing that the law of gravity should be repealed because one of their drunk uncles fell of a roof. In this way, Ray is now more up his own ass than ever before. Special shout out to Lyle's stand out line in this strip, you know the one.

Douglas Wykstra

Ray's gonna want to make sure that the base of those things has sufficient structural integrity to not pop off.

Nicholas Williams

I don't know if cramming your own homunculus up your ass is an act of utter hardassery or some Fall-of-the-Roman-Empire shit but either way is cool.

EndgamerAzari

Oh Beef has DEFINITELY imagined all of them dying from ass cancer.

rickward

I think we all have, I know I have

severecorvid

Imagine what it takes to shove an effigy of yourself up your ass. What a way to divide the male population. Those who would vs those who wouldn't

Achewood

What is it that people liked about this line so much? My guess, which I wrote elsewhere, is, "I think what's working here is that the idea of a woman "not wanting a good baby" is so primally incorrect and unresolvable, that we experience that confusion which resembles the surprise of laughter"

Achewood

Oh man, I haven't done a proper FYF in a while! Thank you, that gives me ideas

Achewood

I am trying to get people to explain why that line works. My guess was, "I think what's working here is that the idea of a woman "not wanting a good baby" is so primally incorrect and unresolvable, that we experience that confusion which resembles the surprise of laughter "

Achewood

People are crazy for this line. I can't figure out why. My guess: "I think what's working here is that the idea of a woman "not wanting a good baby" is so primally incorrect and unresolvable, that we experience that confusion which resembles the surprise of laughter"

Achewood

One of humanity's great mistakes is to congregate

Achewood

Ray is not making sure of anything, man. Can't you see how his days go?

Achewood

That's what we like people, that's the react we crave

Achewood

There's a fetish where guys fantasize about getting eaten by giant women. This seems to occupy the same chapter of that DSM-V book people are always mentioning

Achewood

If you have to shove, you're rushing it

Shawn Ritchie

I think it's that plus the peak 80's-sitcom quality exchange between Lyle and Beef that it shows up in. It is SO Concentrated Essence du Lyle that, combined with your point above, it's impossible to not laugh. This... this might be your Led Zeppelin IV, man.

kdusjjdhxksj

"Not every woman wants a good baby" is the "playing a guitar solo with the guitar behind your head" of writing a webcomic

Sam Julian

It's an incredible standalone panel. Ignore this if you don't want to dissect the frog, but there are so many layers of humor. Lyle ignoring a perceived insult is funny on its own, classic misdirect. Then you're conjuring not only women who seek to be intentionally impregnated by a 'bad' baby (whatever that means) but enough of them that a sperm clinic would categorize 'bad' sperm just to cater to them.

Glenn Ramsy

Onstad, I need at least one week from you where I'm not thinking of ass cancer or my prostate.

Glenn Ramsy

And also that there's an established market for it out there.

severecorvid

Got to savour the ego event horizon

Asherdan

Yes, it is like the concept expressed is 286,000 miles from the cure, except it is reality and that disruption lays us low.

Joshua M

I apologize in advance to Téodor for the indignities that will surely befall him on the next FYF.

The Good Poster

Is there any joy sweeter than when three of Da Boys can come together to roast and/or conduct low-stakes schemes against a fourth? Upon seeing the figurines, instant wordless communicaton and coordination.

The Good Poster

Pat taking it home with "don't forget to try it on yourself!". Laughter and high-fives from even the sad little cat Roast Beef after Ray sheepishly retreats to his room with a miniature effigy of himself and a bottle of Astroglide. I guess what this strip reminds me of is the old one where Ray tricks Teodor with the "everything I draw just naturally seems to look like a dick" gag.

b.zap

O lawd spare us from that awful congregatin

Chris Warren

"Not every woman wants a good baby." -- this killed me

s b

out-of-context-achewood all timer

Laurence Fishburne: WE’RE LEAVING

Bill

"I can't be the only one who imagines all you guys ignorantly dying from ass cancer!" My presumption is that the other two characters who have imagined this are Molly and Vlad.

FactWino

That was my first thought too! Well, my second thought.

Achewood

It was actually just Molly. Twice.

Reece Lawrence

Damn but Pat is looking shredded in panel 9, did they invent a gym that gives you carbon credits?

Professor Hazard

what a time for Mara Wilson to become an Achewood fan

Oppido

As a subscriber, I don't know which strips (if any) are available outside the Patreon paywall to entice window-shoppers, but this really ought to be one. Hell, this could be THE one.

Oppido

Thinking, with some unease, about a whole generation of little half-Lyles roaming around out there.

severecorvid

I think it's also just good character driven humor. It’s a perfect thing for Lyle to respond

Jason S

Finally, a use for all that old new stock of Walkaround Butt you have languishing in your basement!

Kriegsaffe No. 9

"Not every woman wants a good baby" sounds like flavor text in a Dark Souls game and that is high praise.

Brian Sutton

This whole strip is just secretly marketing for a certain new item coming soon in the shop isn't it.

d

this is seriously one of the best

cody

I love that Buttplug Ray’s ears are Somewhat Cropped For Your Comfort

Achewood

His peloton bike powers a stream of rice out of a pipe in a poor country

Achewood

Is this a lady who is famous for butt jokes

Achewood

People really love this buttplug one so much. I was almost too embarrassed to post it. I really need to rethink how dirty to make this thing. I thought everybody was classy.

Achewood

Yes, a tube of Astroglide that reminds men of Tina

Achewood

Yeah man, that stop-on-a-dime control is the envy of all men

Achewood

Thanks! I thought everyone would be tired of all these "poke the ass" strips but apparently that appetite is ravenous and insatiable

Achewood

Yeah I lowered them as much as possible while still looking like ears. You don't want them very cuppy either, for reasons of holding onto "stuff"

Achewood

@Ruxine: Every website is that website if you have enough money

Oppido

It immediately, involuntarily sets the mind to picturing a "bad baby" or even just a "mediocre baby." A real four-out-of-ten baby. A serviceable baby, an it'll-do baby. The IKEA Billy bookcase of babies. (I have two of these.) (The bookcases.)

Professor Hazard

She played Matilda in the movie Matilda and then mostly became a person who says sane things online, so... strong maybe

Daniel M Ford

All weekend I would occasionally stop and think "Not every woman wants a good baby" and chuckle about it.

Gregory Sheets

Jesus, Chris. This is pure top-shelf premium-grade Achewood. 10/10, no notes. Nearly every line should be turned into some form of merch.

Gregory Sheets

To which point: a panel-accurate Ray figurine is almost a necessity now, isn’t it? After all, if they don’t sell, YOU could write it off as a charitable investment in men’s health.

Gregory Sheets

You hit the true note. Everyone is EXACTLY as dirty as they need to be. (Compare/contrast 2 Live Crew being As Nasty As They Wanna Be.)

Achewood

Did she also meme-quote the "a good baby" panel from this strip somewhere?

Achewood

Dang. I need to figure out how to capitalize on this panel everybody is loving so much and grow the readership. Who knew that butt plugs were the key to America

Achewood

(Copied this from my response just below.) Dang. I need to figure out how to capitalize on this panel everybody is loving so much and grow the readership. Who knew that butt plugs were the key to America. NEW SENTENCE THOUGH: You're right. I have that glass with Pat's enraged cock on it, and that sells ho-hum, but perhaps a figurine with an illicit second "meaning" will titillate people into a buying frenzy

Achewood

This is permanently a comic about a thing in Ray's butt now

cody

buttplug.me? Haven’t vetted that one out, can’t be held accountable for what (if anything) lies on the other end of a click

cody

Buttplugs.me is cheap and available, but .us is even cheaper. The intersection of inclusivity and frugality…

s b

open up a fertility clinic that is just a home depot bucket

Professor Hazard

I refuse to help you learn how to exploit the power of that panel

Achewood

C’mon man, help a dude learn how to exploit the power of that panel. C’mon.

Achewood

Ok I looked at her bluesky account and saw no Achewood refs

Achewood

Hm. Is there a .frenzy domain?

kdusjjdhxksj

It's that, but it's also that it's such a blow to such a safe assumption that the mind immediately tries to make sense of it. Why has she set out to have a baby, but not a good one? What are the properties of this baby, what is it even called? What do the forms say? The joke causes everyone in the audience to think of their own answers, and they will find their own jokes funny, so it's one joke hitting several times through involuntary autoriffing

Datura

pat's line in the 3rd to last panel is so funny and well-delivered
