This week we're back at Microsoft, in the year 1953. Following Téodor's subtle establishment of power in the last installment, Wendell has taken him out for dinner at the Ranch Star Steakhouse. But what does he want? And how will Téodor adapt to his newfound boldness? As the old western saying goes, a man must live his hat.

Bruce Wright

Téodor's finally getting some stones, we approve

Josh Egbert

T is *not* being a bro to Wendell right now

jordan b.

it feels so out of character but I'm still here for it.

Daniel M Ford

Love to see T pushing back a little bit here. Get your own back, T.

Johnny Deans

T has gently slipped on the brass knuckles…

Julie (HiDeeHoGal)

There's a short form content creator named Jessie who breaks down literal translations of tattoos using Chinese characters because she herself speaks and reads one of the dialects, I think Mandarin? This "celery shrimp" vs "lady odor" potential from 1953 belongs to modern times. Better to have a note card than a tattoo though. Wendell, so hapless. EDIT: It is @ChinesewithJessie. Check her out for amusement and education.

Achewood

This is an alt universe with a hell of a slow burn. It's like my side hustle.

Achewood

The gentle unfurling of the dormant bud

Achewood

The boy's got potential. How many years until we see Wendell in the ditch, cyanide ball gag?

Achewood

I estimate this storyline will wrap around 2031.

Rob Dalton

this hits a little close to home, onstad, as tomorrow i must make the long haul from my island redoubt to the far citadel of MICROSOFT for to harvest money from odious maneuverings; sigh.

Achewood

How embarrassing to go to get an "endless appetite for lady odor" tattoo and just wind up with one that says "celery shrimp"

Bruce Wright

It’s one of them Elseworlds! Achewood universe 636!

Achewood

Good luck! Try the almond pork.

Achewood

That's a cool term, but sounds like it was coined by a fantasy writer many decades ago. (meaning I can't steal it)

b.zap

Eat a realm of celery shrimp Teodor

Daniel M Ford

T does not have that much of a dawg in him, I fear.

Achewood

I was trying to think of the lamest Chinese-american dish possible

Achewood

Things cannot be known...in the *side universe*

Tom P

Some things can only be unleashed when you work at Microsoft in 1953.

Crumbles

They still have their menus, Wendell couldn't even wait until the orders were in to drop this on T? Perhaps he's overwhelmed by Misty's ongoing performance, but dang, mad uncouth Wendell...

Bungus Bronbo

The title "A Favor for Wendell" has got flavors of "A Smile for ROBERT." Teeodor's also really developing a set on him, huh

Achewood

Exactly. He's so not-smooth he's just spraying confusion and hope around everywhere

GH

Will T be able to responsibly wield his newfound confidence or will he ultimately collapse under the weight his own hubris while alienating those around him the suspense is killing me

Achewood

A Favor For Wendell, tonsorially speaking, is three forelocks pasted to the forehead.

Achewood

It's Microsoft, I think there's plenty of room for hubris. And tool palettes. And tool ribbons. And keyboard shortcuts that get reassigned between every version. Oh, Microsoft.

Glenn Ramsy

That explains it... I was wondering who in this world would get their juices flowing over a celery *anything*. Also I think the lamest dish is that one that is just bean pods on a large plate in luke warm water and like maybe there is that flavorless crunchy white thing that's made from the part of a vegetable you throw away.

Ryan Boyle

"I had a hunch" is years of workplace tension expressed in four words

Oppido

"Will T... collapse [?]" -- Sometimes the more words you remove from a question, the faster it answers itself.

Achewood

I exactly know that dish and agree it is likely the lowest expression of that cuisine. I have no idea why it persists. It is often accompanied by an oversized squishy egg roll. I don’t see it on the west coast.

Achewood

I have used acheworld before, kind of hankering to invent something new. SideAche. WormWood. DudgeonRealm.

Douglas Wykstra

I am unreasonably curious about whether this version of Microsoft also uses stack ranking.

Brian Horstead

I thought this was going to be a comic about rice porridge

Paul

Achecould

Achewood

When Téodor started talking about calligraphy I was confused too. Especially since they were looking at menus.

Miles

This is not related to this strip, but I just felt like sharing that earlier today the phrase “The only way this would be more right is if you were Liv Tyler” popped into my head, with regard to upcoming plans with a friend. Just thought I’d share that

Shawn Ritchie

it's Teodor, so there's no way this doesn't end eventually with him humbled in the usual manner, but i can enjoy his momentary moment of one-upmanship.

b.zap

bok choy wtf

Achewood

I don’t actually know if liv tyler is interesting and nice to talk to. I am older now, I think more about this.

Achewood

I don’t know man, this side universe might have different rules. Plus the Japanese haven’t invented the three-man colonoscope yet.

Achewood

I don’t think anybody really loves bok choy but it is probably the only healthy thing in Chinese American food

Achewood

Has a dreamy quality, I like it

b.zap

My wife loves it. It is one of the few things that befuddles me about her

Achewood

Fondness for bok choy. Date of anniversary. Preference for honesty. Our better halves can be utter ciphers.

Zen Window

These are fun. Could be T's fantasy, could be sleeping dreams he only half remembers after waking, could just be a weird way to use art assets built up over the years with a coat of honky tonk paint. Regardless of whether they're connected to the larger Achewood universe or not, that last panel brought it home.

Zen Window

Even leaving aside her own work--love it all from Empire Records through Space Station 76 and since--no one that close to both Todd Rundgren and Steven Tyler is going to be short on stories.

Achewood

I knew Todd Rundgren had raised her, but I thought it was only because of how bad Aerosmith was, not because Steven Tyler was an addict. Childhood is hard enough; having to listen to grown men decide on the album cover for Pump is just unfair.

Spyguitar

Philippe has had wicked sack for almost 24 years, ‘bout time T caught up

Achewood

These are the Achewoods you think you read for that fleeting half-second before waking up.

2scrogz

Holy shit, the absolute STONES on this version of Teodor. Ice cold. Now it is Wendell's turn eating a realm of ass. (Donna's, he hopes.)

2scrogz

You heard it here first, folks. Parallel universe, NOT elaborate dream sequence. We can all lay down our pitchforks and torches and pitch-torches and stop wondering about what exactly is going on here. CANON EVENT ALERT.
