Achewood is aimed straight at its 25th anniversary (October 1, 2026), and it's time to admit that this project seems to have been a study in male adaptation and maladaptation to the modern world. It's not always pretty, and it's not always nice, but as we continue to pick at the coalface of our own enigma, here and there we make progress. Please submit the last three strips to the podcast of your choice so I can be invited on to sound intellectual. I am also willing to be on the cover of The New York Times. I have been a public-facing Internet figure for a quarter-century and cannot imagine anyone saying anything that hurts my feelings at this point. They are of asbestos and lye.

B-Roll Strip

Don't forget — the b-roll / "making-of" version of this strip posts two hours later in Tiers 2 & 3. Upgrade for a month to enjoy this and over 400 other upper-tier Achewood pieces! Or upgrade forever, and find your life vastly more entertained.

Give the Gift of Bingeing Comics

It's never too late to give a gift a subscription to the Patreon to a friend or loved one or marginally respected colleague! It's dead easy: choose how many months you want to give, then get a link you can share with them. It won't auto-renew. This is an even better gift now that the archive is binge-able! (see next hot news item)

Read All Strips At Once

In case you missed it, I set up a Collection here in the Achewood Patreon called Read All Strips At Once. You can go in there and click straight through the archive, just like we used to in the old days, when the politicians' hair was brown and the burgers were turkey.

Josh Egbert

This feels like a reverse evolution of the vestigial dong lessons

Achewood

Right? At least there's a little (voluntary) prostate stuff goin' on.

Achewood

Let's just say the boys play around in their pants so we don't have to. They walk so we can run? Something like that. I'm working in it. Second cup is brewing.

Bob the Fish Productions

Put me in mind of that as well. Achewood keeps throwing up these Utopian scenarios involving the middle of the body which I, for one, wish were real

Tom P

Unfortunately, Chris, you will have to get a fascism haircut and be a twink constantly available to NYT reporters (on X.com, the everything site) in order to make it to the front page. Maybe you can get Teodor to do it for you?

Achewood

I just had a thought: is it oppressive that I come in here and respond to everybody? Would it be nicer if "dad" wasn't always waiting to jump around the corner and yuk it up? Or is it a mildly beneficial feature of this deal at this point?

Ryan Boyle

Yes! Onstad is back to commenting on modern masculinity, and I am HERE FOR IT! I'm visiting Portland, thought of the old Achewood Toyota strip when I saw an OYO Hotel.

Josh Egbert

Male enlightenment is only achievable via their waste orifices

Achewood

Portland, Oregon? Hit me up for recs

Achewood

I'd have to have hair to get a haircut. What's this twink thing? I didn't know about that, but I am willing to commit if it gets me above the fold. Do I have to wear "Forever 21" and listen to The Biebs?

Achewood

I'd include the mouth on that orifice list, generally

Alex Moscovitch

This arc has been INCREDIBLE. I am still cackling... the Ray in the last panel is A+ work, sir.

Linus Lee

Pretty sure the Afghan Whigs have a song about wanting to drive someone's neat truck.

Achewood

Thank you! Tune in at noon to see what Ray *almost* said instead of "Fuck." (There's actually a lot more than that, but it's one of maybe nine bonus panels)

Tom Bown

direct engagement is great! and it’s gonna be more fun than those days in the Something Awful Achewood thread

Clench and Cheese

Who knew that all it took was shoving a plastic figurine of a cartoon cat up your asshole? I remember trying it with a figurine of Jesus, but all that did was make me ashamed of my Grindr account while I condemned homosexuality on social media.

Achewood

My brain will always snap onto "Bitchin Camaro" when considering cool car songs

Bruce Wright

As a lifelong Beta, I welcome this sensitive new world

Josh Egbert

This is neither hyperbolic nor loose flattery, but the interactions, both ours & the ones you have with other fans, are a highlight of my week.

Achewood

Oh, I thought you were trying to catch a ride on that sweet Piss Jesus money train

Bruce Wright

No man, the parasocial thing is what keeps us coming back

Tom P

You'll recall when Teodor met Rod, I'm sure; essentially, a twink here is a version of a "SoftBoy" that deliberately cultivates being slim and gorgeous and perfectly groomed, and is typically only in full command of their gay strength for a finite period of time. As a baldy, your best shot is the Sunday culture section. The centerpiece feature on the up-and-coming shitheads is non-negotiable, but I think the Sunday culture section has at least a few more months in it.

Ryan Boyle

Yes, but just a quick trip for a couple business meetings, back home to Chicago this afternoon. Took a morning run along the Willamette, very nice!

Tom P

Personally, I enjoy this sort of conversation, not least because many of my actual conversations are mostly about the other parties addressing an unseen interlocutor -- the notional social media audience, or as my father's time called it, "a guy you made up in your head."

Achewood

Dildo It! (I'm not sure how that relates to betas, but it popped into my head)

Achewood

Hope you didn't step in anything Grassa at the airport is actually one of the better pasta places around, and street pricing

b.zap

Dude now so polite he sits down when he pees in the shower

Achewood

I barely remember the forum days, except for kind of an abstract mean brown smear -type feeling

Achewood

Thanks Egbert, the bar shall remain high then.

Clench and Cheese

Bob Packwood in the men's room stall . He used two Meier & Frank bags that he liked to stand in so it didn't look he was getting a beej from outside the stall door (two sets of legs is a giveaway, boys). Why Meier and Frank? Because "Wide Stance" Bob had Oregon pride, that's why.

Achewood

Tom P - these imaginary social media arguments / conversations / riposte that swarm around in our heads are the brain virus of our time. This is why we should all live on isolated islands in the Sea of Cortez.

Tom P

To paraphrase the Buddha, "one who posts too often and too deep would be subject to vexations and go mad."

Jenn

Seconding this

Tom P

look man I get it but aim for the drain and not when someone else is within a yard

Achewood

I knew gym men would still find a way to let us down. I joined a gym that is slightly upscale and the exec guys there still stand-up-piss with the seat down, don't flush pee, etc. Who the fuck is the mama that raised these disgusting animals?

Daniel M Ford

I think the chance to interact with the creator at the source of creation is part of the point of patreon!

Julie (HiDeeHoGal)

OK SO about those journalist names. Also, what can I shove into my bum to make me want a tomorrow? I'm a LADY.

Achewood

and at least be running the shower

Achewood

Your search "bob packwood bathroom blowjob meier frank" returned no results DAG NABBIT YA GOT ME

Achewood

I know, but what is permissible is not always profitable. There are some creators I would pay to not interact on their own boards.

Achewood

Ah okay, I imagined a Twink as someone with overall-shorts (one strap undone), an oversized lollipop, and a backwards baseball cap with no logo.

Tom P

You're in the right general direction. I can't give you detailed guidance here. This is a subject you must discover for yourself, but which might throw some new insight on the personality of Pat, who we know is well north of 25 at this point.

Distant Egg Song

Chochachan energies blasting the root chakra. Worse things have destroyed a civilization, to be sure.

Julie (HiDeeHoGal)

I'm going with high-end Korean skincare and houseplants.

Bungus Bronbo

There's nothing more threatening to the US economy or the American dream than realized happiness instead of promised happiness.

Achewood

The Experiment may adapt or fall, and it was not AI, or politics, or social media. It was a tiny plastic figurine, multiplied by millions, and placed in the one special spot like a Sankara Stone.

jason robinson

You are always welcome on 48 Minutes of Dogs Barking to talk about whatever you want. jason at 48minutesofdogsbarking.com.

Achewood

You know, I feel like Chomsky would enjoy some time in here

Cooper Johnson

Last panel is the t-shirt I want. No embellishments, no added context. On black or on a white-and-black ringer. This is the last of my Christmas money talking.

Elyse Renée

Imagining the upbeat jazzy-backed intro to the news that features quick wipe shots of Clade, Peef, and Keek. Checking notes, on the scene, folding arms and smiling warmly into the camera… Your KACW team.

A. Hamster

There used to be a site called Divine Interventions that sold a Baby Jesus Butt Plug. You can anoint him yourself, but oil-based lube isn’t really recommended for the silicone.

Achewood

I remember your invitation! Let me check out your pod and get back to you. Thanks!

A. Hamster

I think Bloom County missed the boat on licensing Bill The Cat’s tongue, if we are keeping with the theme of cartoon cats

Achewood

I really need to get that print-on-demand store going so Chos can order whatever they want without me getting in the way!

Achewood

Yes. This. Then they all roll away in a veneered 1973 station wagon that stalls on some train tracks. (It is driven by a double agent?) The train is coming! The train horn blows louder and louder...the train driver madly turns the steering wheel left and right, but a train can't be steered...it hits the car and the car flies up into the air and its pieces form the call sign KACW

Achewood

Good luck sitting on a philodendron

A. Hamster

They really should just go to the German gym, where every day is I Think I Got Stung By A Jellyfish Day

Achewood

Just be sure you lube it, nobody likes an ass stigmata, especially not after Memorial Day

A. Hamster

And Assetbar was like being in prison, where every now and then you would catch a glimpse of the warden. Over here, it’s like dudes who have been into Iron Maiden for decades, but go to the concerts to hear the new album and not just the greatest hits

Blue Delliquanti

I have a feeling that last panel is going to break containment

Clench and Cheese

Yeah man, I conflated two scummy Republicans from the same era. Packwood creeped on the women, so he was a run of the mill rapist Republican fucktard. Larry Craig was the wide stance guy, and it was the Minneapolis airport with the shopping bags. Let's call it a reg'lar GOP sex predator mashup.

Achewood

I can make a little gift set with "not every woman wants a good baby" and "forty-five degrees." A triptych! Like fancy artists do.

Miles McMahon

if anyone calls me a sucker and tells me I got good eyes, I can die a happy man (I ain't got a lot goin' on)

Achewood

c'mon everybody: YO MILES! YOU GOT GOOD EYES, SUCKER!

Zen Window

Almost as much as he enjoyed time at Little St. James, I reckon

Bungus Bronbo

We got a choice to reply, y'know? It's on us

Zen Window

I'm sure it's selection bias at work, but are you really asking if all us chatty bitches in here would like it more if you just shut up and drew cats? This is great fun just the way we're doing it now. I still laugh about your response to my foreign travel massage story, "don't look now, but you might be a grey cat with programming skills" or close to it.

Zen Window

As with any great cultural upheaval, there will be winners and losers. To everyone in either the Achewood universe or our current shared hallucination, if you're so afraid of your own body that you miss out on nervous system fireworks, that's on you. Don't make it a problem for the rest of us if we happened to find the Do Not Pass Go Do Not Collect $200 Go Directly To Fun Times easy button in a surprising place.

Douglas Wykstra

Ray empowered men so much it destroyed America, but not in the way you'd expect.

Douglas Wykstra

I always figure that if you want to come in and say something that's great, and if not, that's cool too. Feel neither unwelcome nor obligated, to the extent that such consciousness is possible without an assist from a Ray Smuckles butt plug.

E Corcoran

in through the out door

Gregory Sheets

The exact formatting of Ray’s “Fuck.” is pure art. Normal capitalization and a full stop… but in italics. The subtlety is not lost on us all. That is an extremely specific degree of Fuck. Chris, that precise touch with typography is such a hallmark of your writing. I envy it enormously.

E Corcoran

All of Achewood is about modern masculinity, always has been

E Corcoran

It's ok to patreonize us

E Corcoran

"involving the middle of the body" where the smells come from

Vincent Verweij

One of my friends said "So the way out of our death cult society is through the prostate?" when they saw this...

Douglas Wykstra

It reminds me of Ray's "Goddammit!" [new panel] "CRAP." when Sondra forbade him from running for president.

Thunk

Following an innocuous question with "You might want to turn on the news" is sublime and I need to try out on someone who has tv news

Thunk

You are the bartender; you write the house rules

E Corcoran

I want a tshirt with the "ARE YOU GUYS FAGS" panel

Miles McMahon

It's been real, everyone. I'm logging off Internet and I'm gonna learn how to paint or something else that makes people feel nice.

Achewood

How about just that sentence, in comic sans

Achewood

“Hey, remember the sun? You might want to turn on the news”

Achewood

It’s worth a shot. Seems way easier to clean up after than guns and roadblocks.

Achewood

Thank you. As a graphic design-based life form it’s just natural. Lower case no punctuation would not have been enough.

Achewood

She was gonna spank him on his little pink tush iirc

Achewood

Seems time for a smuckles/philippe political campaign doesn’t it

Achewood

In their near future, the Library of congress will be replaced with another Dude Wipes factory

Achewood

Plus Tina. I take some time to examine Tina and Tina-type people as well.

kdusjjdhxksj

The donkey stops turning the mill if the carrot falls off the stick

Thunk

"You had pizza from that place on the corner last night? You might want to turn on the news"

kdusjjdhxksj

Did we ever formally establish that beef is a dead milkmen guy, because to me it's about as obvious as knowing what hands are and then seeing a glove

kdusjjdhxksj

Whatever gets the job done, man

Duncan

I've been reading a comic called BUG WARS and I can tell the creators had a lot of fun naming things in the story universe. I got that same feeling here when Peef did the handoff to Keek. 👏

Walter Cooke

"I WANT THERE TO BE A TOMORROW" is a theme for today that we can all get behind.

Achewood

News names often seem like they're from a universe that's a satire of this one. I think I got on this kick earlier in the week when I saw an article about this ultra-wasp real estate agent named Muffin Dowdle.

Achewood

For many men, this realization comes as a total shock, because tomorrow largely promises pointlessness, work, misery, and continued poverty.

Achewood

"Remember how they say, The only bad news is no news? You might want to turn on the news."

Achewood

It's 100% guaranteed Beef is a Dead Milkmen guy. I guarantee this.

s b

the manufacturers QA on that flared base is the atlas holding up the nation at this point

NotAnon

i love how many of the incidental men in your strip have this odd lumpy shape. that they are living their live built just a lil bit different, feels real.

Asherdan

Y'know why it seems good here? Because everyone is pretty cool with it. Thinking back on those message board days, I remember thinking it was better that you didn't get to into that gig. Except for the little lock posts, man, those were the gas.

Ryan Boyle

135 comments last week, 108 and counting here. I enjoy this community, all chos who either understand the power of butt play, or who are about to have an *incredible* weekend.

GruntyGinMan

Me watching the Artemis II landing: People need to see that Big Things are still.possible

GruntyGinMan

"Hey Project Hail Mary! I loved that book!"

blair

How soon can you add the plug to your merch?

blair

jeezus, '3d printed butt plugs' is now in my search history.

b.zap

rockin eyes bro

Achewood

I’m on fiverr right now looking for vendors

Achewood

It may seem like I’m kidding but that’s because this is not a video enabled post

b.zap

Ray's little bottle erection at the challenge of Making 'Merica Great Again

Achewood

Interesting. Subliminal. Everything I am drawing looks like a dick. Weird.

Achewood

"Dr. Cherri M. Pancake is Professor Emeritus and Dir..." WHAT IS THE M FOR Maraschino? Multigrain? Milf?!?!

Glenn Ramsy

"Marie" apparently.... actually that might be an AI hallucination... I might need to go deeper. Stay tuned.... fuck it, I'm just going to email her. I need to know.

Glenn Ramsy

You got good eyes, fag ; )

Paul

Leo Fontanette could have used one of those. Someone should throw one at a Caddy dealership in his honor.

cody

There is a real estate agent in these parts called Missy Mellon. I’ve always wanted to pop into one of her open houses to see if they’re the sort of you-knew-what-you-were-getting-into crowdsourced porno shoots it seems like they obviously would be.

severecorvid

The names of all the news team members are insane, love it

Achewood

Leo’s plug would have become a diamond. A terrible, terrible diamond.

Achewood

Thank you. Peef was when I knew I had a strip.

Anthony Thompson

Hey cowboy you wear a shirt like that you better GOOD AND GODDAMN sure have a neat truck. We all got enough disappointment these days.

Achewood

Cody dogg u nasty (send pix)

Achewood

Velvet Milkman, now someone's just having us on, this is incredible INCREDIBLE

Achewood

Man, I have been mowing and fence mending and breaking down old trees. I barely have what it takes for a life-changing butt weekend. Might reschedule.

Achewood

I’m always like “oh Jesus new character design?! But I exhausted my talents designing the original cast!” And then I look at Philippe, who is basically half of an oval.

Achewood

This is a great point. The entire nation is vulnerable and that one glue-weld could possibly fail everywhere at the same time…meaning a run on ERs and a complete halt to the economy. Tune in next week to see if I remember to finish this!
