By my count, merkins have been mentioned three times in the Achewood comics. Once in the above strip, once here, and once here.

And then I thought I was to be done with merkins. It was a hell of a tour of duty for any contemporary artist, and I was proud. But alas, it was not to be.

When my son Hayden turned 21 this March, we took him to Maynard Keenan's Merkin Vineyards Hilltop Winery & Trattoria, which was way better than it sounded. If you don't know Maynard Keenan, he is the malcontent fussbudget behind Tool, Puscifer, A Perfect Circle, and, well, Merkin Vineyards. My mother declined the souvenir t-shirt. What's Up In The Patreon
