Fresh off a P.G. Wodehouse binge, I wrote a longish series in which Ray engages a butler who bears an uncanny resemblance to Jeeves. Or perhaps Jeeves himself was ripped from the manual for the archetypal British butler. It is not for me to say, although I am sure it is for many others to say, and quite vociferously, with all the right ad ibidems. But to date I have not been angrily labeled a, "Godless thief, with eyes that suck the very ink from a child's note to Santa," so all is well. (And the dirty secret is not how freely I cribbed from the model of Jeeves; it is Waterbury's own fresh secret, which I will not spoil for you.)

The storyline takes myriad asides to check in with other characters and their concerns, but does actually conclude. Closure was still a novel and untrusted narrative device to me, at the time.

Enjoy these outtakes, but for the love of a good time, please go read the entire thing.

Testify! Patreon Subscribers Are Saying...

"I've subscribed to a few Patreons over the years and have one of my own, so for anyone on the fence, I can assure you of the following two things: 1. The Patreon content is regularly updated, of fantastic quality, and on a continuum with the original run. 2. It is not filled with posts documenting the creator's many resentments and depressions. 3. It's easily the best Patreon l've ever subscribed to. "

A Peek Inside The Patreon:

Every Friday in Tier 2 ("In-Universe" Tier), two hours after the main strip, I post a full page of the best of the voluminous B-Roll panels, edits, and writing outtakes. Here is the top half of last week's:

Also, among many other things, I invited the Author's Tier (Tier 3) on a photo tour of my neighborhood. Here we start in the rain garden which I built for free using only a tremendous amount of shoveling, rocks from Craigslist, and rocks from Facebook Marketplace:

Not quite ready for an Achewood Patreon subscription? Join me on X! Achewood has always enjoyed a sizable following on that site, and I've recently started posting two archival classics there each day. Please enjoy these irreverence-leavened breaks from the sulfurous stew of doomscroll brainstem cannibalism which typically features on [name your social media platform of choice; none is innocent of this descriptor].

Thank you for being a free member of the Achewood Patreon! I hope that in time I can demonstrate enough value and delight in these weekly postings to persuade you of the quality content you will find in the supporter tiers. I rely entirely on reader contributions, and am seldom the recipient of massive, hotly-contested federal bailouts.

Best,
