It's In Bed With the Right's first ever mailbag episode! And, because you all, our amazing Patreon supporters, sent in so, so, so many brilliant questions and because we couldn't shut up providing answers to them, it's only Part 1! This episode delves into how the podcast came to be, our main takeaways from Project 1933, the history of HR departments, identity politics, "girl code", and our hope for the future. (Part 2 should be up in two weeks, since next week belongs to Project 1933!)

So very grateful for you two and your work, which has felt empowering, grounding, and action-inducing over the last year 💕 the single most effective and affecting media I currently consume.

Sarah

I just adore you both! I feel like I learn something new or find a new perspective on something every time I listen. Thank you for all your work! ❤️

Agreed that both Adrian and Peter have very appealing voices! And as an archivist I’m so glad y’all are preserving your experiences of the moment.

My advice for The Youngs, if asked, is essentially "you did not make education out of reach expensive. You didn't do the same to home ownership, health care, or retirement. So don't let Olds put on you responsibility for their terrible decisions. Then don't make individual and collective decisions that will do to younger people, eh?" IOW, if our talk about generations is really about anxiety around aging, then younger people can insist we older people take responsibility for that.

Blown away by your incredibly beautiful and honest reflections of what led you to this work! Your experiences resonated so deeply with me on multiple levels. Thank you for making us ‘others’ feel seen, sane, and empowered to keep white-hot raging against the machine!

Ugh, Peter is gonna get even more smug, isn't he? Rhi already suffers so much!

This was lovely, esp. hearing how you two got together as comrades in arms. You really are a meeting of two halves - you work so well together! Also, Moira, I just want to say how much you’ve totally expanded my feminist world. I’m 51, so a bit older than you, but you’ve really helped me clarify & build on my feminist thinking. You explain ideas lucidly and with great depth of perception. I feel like I’m becoming more feminist & more ‘radical’ as I get older, and your excellent analyses are really helping me. Thank you :)

BA in history from a liberal arts school and I didn't read Toni Morrison until post-grad ... uh oh

I agree that the Internet makes what kids are doing more visible. I feel like the manosphere has opened my eyes to what men have presumably always been saying in their male spaces (to my absolute horror). That said, I'm a teacher, and I see more brazen misogyny from middle-school boys in the Andrew Tate era than I have in the past. However, it seems likely to me that boys are newly empowered to say things out loud in the company of adult women that they used to whisper when teachers were not around. I remember 20 years ago I used to say something like If you act that way as an adult you'll get fired from your job. I don't say that anymore.

impish id representative here! thanks for the intimate conversation here, and for all your episodes, which have enriched my perspective to no end. and yes, sorry, Adrian - your voice is sexy and your naive surprise at that makes it so much better (and certainly you have one-upped Peter by being so humble 😂).

I’d also like to submit a rather unorthodox mailbag question. I’m a therapist by trade and am therefore just dying to know more about you two as people. I have so enjoyed the glimpses we get of your personalities throughout the show. Origin story, hobbies, favorite music, whatever you’re willing to share, I’ll take it! Thanks in advance if you decide to fuel my parasocial pod relationship! Lol

My two cents on Andrew Tate: just thinking back on my own experiences as a teenager in the 2010s, the guys said a lot of stupid shit (as did I, for the record). But when I look at the same guys now, guys who probably parroted similar points to each other back in the day, they occupy wildly differing political positions. This is something that continued through university, you can really track the change in what and how people think, and I know my politics have definitely shifted and refined a lot over the past decade or so. You might start out calling Justin Bieber a lesbian and watching a lot of South Park and Shane Dawson, but that isn’t necessarily a predictor of where you end up.

“The bad guys always pay better” …thanks for another great & depressing episode

I played the Wagner episodes for my sisters-in-law last week in the car on the way to see Die Walküre at the Santa Fe opera, and they both commented on how nice Adrian's voice is.

I’ve told many people about your podcast and always mention Adrian’s voice! I don’t call it sexy (51 yo lesbian here, sorry bud) but his pronunciation of German names and terms is lovely. I also adore Moira’s laugh and think you two are freaking smart, fun people. Thank you for all you do!

Episode on James Dobson? Rest in no peace, dude.

1) adrian, yes, your charm translates quite well, even without any visuals. 2) thank you both for your moral clarity & leadership. moira, you in particular have pulled me back into the feminist fold. i didn’t wander far, but in the biden years i transitioned & became disenchanted (?) w a certain kind of feminism that i let stand in for feminism as a whole.

I am going to embroider “Stop making me validate your lack of growth” on a T-shirt 🧑‍🍳💋

I, personally, feel validated by Moira’s hatred of Camille Paglia.

My mailbag contribution: you should do another crossover episode with IBCK about Emily Oster, who is a lot of liberal mother-to-be’s go to for “data-driven” childbirth, but who now has a show on The Free Press where she supports pronatalist discourse and talks about how the “science” shows kids from two parent households do better.. it also feels like no one has called her out about this?? (I do live under a digital rock so maybe I missed the internet drama)
