I think Meredith is right with how she treated the mother. Sure she was being unprofessional, but sometimes unfortunately somebody being blunt is what somebody needs. Maybe it wasn’t her place to say it but it got the right outcome. I had the same reaction as you at first when Derek told Webber that he is level headed, but I actually do think he wasn’t completely wrong that almost all of his insane moments are due to Meredith or other family related stuff that he can’t avoid letting affect him. I honestly expected Thatcher to have a problem with Lexie and Mark being together. Especially given how much of a big deal they’ve made out of Derek for example having an issue with it. Felt like a bit of a filler episode this week which is surprising given how close to the finale we are and how everything felt like it was building up the last few episodes. Decent episode though.

This is one of those episodes that really gets me. Izzie's mom reminds me so much of my grandma, and so I have a bit of a soft spot for her. Even though she's quite a lot, and somewhat difficult, it's great to see how much she genuinely cares about and loves Izzie and just wants her to be ok. I totally understand why Izzie didn't want her mom to stay longer, but it does make me a little sad to think that she went home thinking Izzie was fine and gonna recover soon, because if she does die, she'll be blindsided. Hopefully, if things genuinely do take a turn for the worse, Izzie or someone else will call her mom and let her know. I understand where Meredith was coming from with the little girl, but I do think it was the right choice to distance her because, as much as the situation sucks, in a hospital, you can't let your personal feelings get in the way of patient care. Plus, the fact that she raised her voice at a battered woman could have easily gotten the hospital in trouble. It was just too much of a conflict of interest. But it does at least seem like she had a hand in helping the mom leave at the end, which is good. Once again, shocker, Richard is overstepping with Meredith. I think it was reasonable at most for him to let her know Thatcher was there and that he wanted to talk, and then it should've been up to her whether to do it. He had no right to corner her and essentially force her to listen to him. As Meredith said, Richard needs to treat her like a resident and not his surrogate daughter, because it's causing so much unprofessionalism on his part. I do appreciate that he apologized to her, though, and acknowledged the role he had in her childhood trauma. Hopefully, after that nice moment they had together, it won't be an issue anymore. Even though I tend to get annoyed with Richard, I do want him and Meredith to have a good relationship, especially since he's kind of like the last parent figure she has left. I don't fault Lexie for being willing to forgive Thatcher and wanting to have a relationship with him. He was a good father to her for most of her life until he started drinking, and her experience of him is very different than Meredith's. I hope he's able to stay sober, if not for himself then at least for Lexie. Arizona is just making me like her more and more. It's great to see how unconditionally supportive she is of Callie, and I appreciate that she let her know she would've supported her no matter what decision she made about her family. A lot of people would understandably be upset at Callie for considering lying, and I wouldn't fault her if she were, but she was completely on Callie's side. Callie deserves this after how shitty she was treated in previous relationships. Regarding your question about Izzie's care: Dr. Swinder from the oncology department (the woman Derek argued with in the OR) is her primary doctor who is handling her cancer-specific treatments like chemo and radiation. She has other doctors dealing with more specific things, like Derek, who did her brain surgery since he's a neurosurgeon, and Bailey is dealing with the Mets she has in her liver and intestines since she's a general surgeon.
