Star Trek: TNG S01E03

Just remember.... Seasons 1 & 2 are the weakest seasons in TNG. Things get markedly better with Season 3. That's the general consensus. Then, in my opinion, Season 4 is better than 3.... Season 5 is better than 4.... Season 6 is better than 5.... But Season 7 falls back a little, back to Season 4 levels in some regard. But if there's a difficult spot to get over... it's Season 1.... overwhelmingly. But you like S1E3.... though I have to confess.... I don't know why. lol, sorry. Maybe you'll LOVE Season 1.

It was a bit weird to have a second episode of a show where the characters all act other out of character. They (and the audience) barely knew their characters at that point. I don't remember this being on your list. Not necessarily an episode I would put on a selected eps list. Or are you secretly watching the whole show? 😜

I like this episode a little more than others I think, it’s just not really a very substantial one in the grand scheme of things so I understood it not being on your first list. HOWEVER, since you have watched it…..if you decide you aren’t watching the whole series and are just doing the original list I would now recommend you add Skin of Evil from Season 1. It would be spoilery to say why, but with this episode now being in your mind, Skin of Evil is necessary.

I love that you’re doing this series…such a great show and it’s so nice seeing these all again through someone else’s eyes! For me, the more episodes, the better ❤️

Fun fact, Wil Wheaton, who plays Wesley, was one of the more well known cast members when the show first started, as he had been acting for a few years already as a child, including in the popular film Stand By Me a year before TNG. My attitude regarding what you watch is, the more the merrier! As with TOS, there's a lot of character and world-building established bit by bit over the course of the whole show, and certain arcs, both story and character, that develop incrementally where only watching a few episodes a season would lead you to miss them entirely, or wonder, "how did this person end up here?". That said, there are a few dud episodes, particularly early on, though I will defend S1 and 2 for having some important character establishment, more than people tend to remember. Regardless, enjoy the ride!

It was fun to watch this episode with you Ames! You have such a great attitude and approach to the whole Star Trek franchise! It really helps to be able to enjoy and take something positive away from every episode! Even "embrace the cheese" episodes like this one have some interesting aspects to them in terms of how they reveal backstories of certain characters or hint at past relationships or possible existing attractions among the crew. Looking forward to more TNG! Or as Picard would say, "Make it so!" 😊

So happy you’re doing TNG! Thanks for the reaction. Keep it up!

I just joined Patreon when I noticed you were going to watch more Star Trek and I would be here to watch any and all Star Trek you want to watch with us all

I am a hard-core Trekie. I've seen all the TOS, TNG, DS9, Voyager, Enterprise, and the ones on Amazon Prime, like Picard. I hope you do them all eventually. DS9 was my favorite of the series. I have met John Delancie (Q). He's really a nice guy, even though he always gets the quirky roles (he does so good in them!). The first time I was him was on the daily soap opera Days Of Our Lives (back in the 70s or 80s). He played a mass strangler. Watch more, I'll be here. Be well, Greg. :)

You’re definitely getting the hang of this series already and I’m excited to see more! Tried watching this with somebody else but it feels more chill with you 😊
