TNG S2Ex21 "Peak Performance"

Just like I think "Conspiracy" is the true Season 1 finale, "Peak Performance" is the Season 2 finale in my opinion. "Q Who" went way over budget so that's why "Shades of Grey" was a clip show. As I've said before, I love Starship design and I'm happy you finally got to see the Constellation class! The 4 nacelle design was a late 23rd Century design so it did become outdated but they would still put them in service for smaller things. The Ferengi showed up a couple times in Season 1 with the episodes "The Last Outpost" and "The Battle" with another unique starship design.

Similar to family comedies of the time, episodic but they are still building characters and stories

Between 1998 and 2008 the Las Vegas Hilton adopted a TNG theme to the hotel and created 2 3D rides called the Star Trek Experience. I got to stay there and take the rides once. This is a YT video of the experience. You may enjoy this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LulQBf4kLnk

Great reaction Ames. It was good to have an episode focus in some way on EVERY cast member. I’m a big fan of the Ferengi. They are a lot of fun. I guess that’s all I’ll say lol The best thing TNG ever did in the early seasons was have Data ‘study’ humor and humanity. Otherwise it would have made no sense to have him smirk in episodes like this and his character wouldn’t have turned out to be so incredible. His development as a character is just starting. Season three. Make it so.

"whether caused by human emotions or android algorithms." "Daddy Picard" is good way to describe Picard: "It is possible to commit no mistakes and still lose. That is not a weakness. That is life." Riker is also awesome. The dynamic between the two is great. Data (your favorite) is a top character for me, as with most fans. Character development w/Data this episode. That young lady on bridge of the other ship w/Riker and Worf is cute. The Ferengi add flavor to TNG. Looking forward to S3.

This episode is a delight. Rewatching these earlier episodes made me realize that the first two seasons (yes, even much of season 1) are better than people give them credit for. Similarly, Dr. Pulaski was pretty underrated. Also, I'm getting so I really miss the episodic format of classic TV shows. Yes, there wasn't a big massive story arc like modern streaming shows. But they had a chance to explore way more varied storylines. And by having totally separate stories from week-to-week, it made the show feel "bigger" in a weird way. Like, you can just imagine this bustling world in which a lot of adventures are constantly happening behind the scenes that we don't get to see. That goes away in modern TV when you just get a single story for the whole season (or even the whole series).

No need to worry about the end of TNG just yet, the journey is just getting started. And yes, watching the top episodes is going to be great of course, but also watching the 'normal' episodes is even better. They are often still very good and you're hanging with your crew. Kinda like going on a amazing vacation with your family will create great memories, but the real worth is being at home with them sharing the ups and downs of your lives.
