Rest In Peace, Rob.

I don't know if I've actually seen this movie; if I did, I was under 10. But, wow. What a special film.

I though you had seen this or it would have been nominated all of the time. But it's perfect for today. The train, Chopper, leeches, Lardass. Devastating and resilient. I was similar age to the guys in this when I first saw it. Great double feature with my favorite movie. River Phoenix...just wow. RIP Rob

Incredible reaction; at times erie and goosebumps-inducing. Laughter and tears. Really cathartic to watch that with you and everybody else here. Outstanding commentary at the end. You're always so articulate, I don't know how you do it! Especially when it's so emotional like this one. Thanks for sharing this with us. I wouldn't have watched this on my own, I haven't seen this in years and years, and I'm so happy I did today. First time I saw it, it was my first date with my first girlfriend, ha! But this time was even more special and more resonant and is going to be what I remember most when I think about "Stand By Me".

It’s a perfect movie. Some directors were just made for certain Stephen King book adaptations. Frank Darabont for Shawshank, DePalma for Carrie, Cronenberg for Dead Zone, Carpenter for Christine, Kubrick for The Shining (regardless of what King thinks)….and Reiner for Stand By Me. I read this short story….The Body…..before the movie was made. I can still smell the mildew on the tattered pages. It’s from a King book called Different Seasons, which has four short stories. The Body became Stand By Me, Apt Pupil was made into a decent movie, and of course Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption. What a book! River Phoenix died seven years later. Always a sad memory. These boys were me and my friends at this age. RIP Rob. Stand By Me, Spinal Tap, Princess Bride, Misery, A Few Good Men, The Sure Thing. What a legend.

I read the short story this was based on.

I also haven't seen this since I was a kid. Sweet movie, and great tribute to Rob Reiner. He was a real master, at home in many genres. He left behind an amazing legacy.

Awesome movie and reaction. Incredible kid acting. R.I.P. River. Like the story and the interactions between the four. I started smoking at that age. Kiefer Sutherland good acting. Dreyfuss good narration. Beautiful scenery. Like the music. Feel good everytime I hear the title song. I wondered if you recognized Wesley Crusher. Thanks for this tribute to Rob Reiner - a distinguished career. R.I.P. to Mr. Reiner.

I too thought that he was writing this story because he was "hard up for material" like the joke in the movie, but after revising this with you, I'm thinking that he read the story about his friend Chris in the paper and decided to write his maybe most fondest memory of Chris and that whole part of his childhood down before he forgets it, which is why he included the Deer sighting. Great reaction! your laugh is so contagious! keep up the good work! RIP Rob and River

Great reaction and comments at the end. To me it is the greatest coming of age movies. It was a bit hard watching with what happened to Rob Reiner and his wife.

I believe I’ve read that Stephen King has identified this as his personal favorite movie adaptations of any of his stories, and the dude has had a ton of movies made form his novels. Evidently, the Richard Dreyfuss part was initially played by Stephen King in the movie, but Reiner & King both agreed at some point during filming that King, while a great writer obviously, was not a very good actor, and the part needed someone with better chops, so to speak, leading to Dreyfuss being hired to play the role. I remember seeing this as a boy abut the age of the cast when this was initially released. Still resonates with me today, and I certainly am nostalgic to that time & place in my life. ❤️
