My sister and I watched this so many times growing up, we still quote lines today!

Ames knocking out two of Gene Wilder's most famous roles within a week of each other! Ok, I got a Hershey bar, I got some gum drops.....just in case they're needed later! Starting in a bit, as soon as my laundry is done. Can't wait to see Ames' reaction to Violet, for some reason! :D

This and CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG never fail to bring me back to my childhood. A great story wonderful songs and gene Wilders performance made this a favorite for every kid in the 70's lucky enough to see it in the theatres...

"Help. Police. Murder." Epic Wonka deadpans when the kids are being stupid. Love the darkness at times and of course the sets, songs, and lessons. Wilder threatened to walk off if they didn't let him do the roll when he walks out with the cane. He said after that you never knew what he was faking or not.

Another of my favorite films that I've watched so many times I also quote lines randomly from it. Even had a Laserdisc of it once lol

Something I realized in recent years is that Gene Wilder's approach to Willy Wonka is very similar to how Julie Andrews played Mary Poppins. Every line delivery sounds like they're being ironic or sarcastic in some way, and it often goes over the heads of the people around them. And they're both operating on levels way above everyone else.

That was a really great reaction commentary, especially as the movie snowballs. Love what you said about Gene Wilder playing Wonka as this enigmatic guy. Totally agree. I always think of the word "haunted"! A totally three-dimensional character that didn't have to be. In the book, he's British and he's more of a mischievous prankster. Wilder puts that far-away sadness in his eyes, like he's disappointed with how the world has turned out while he's working his butt off to make wonderful things for everybody. Very interesting performance!!! PS: This time watching, I was noticing how great the actors who played the parents were. Just all around good job! PSS: For you 70s movie fans: Carnal Knowledge was released the same day! How's that for a double feature? LOL!! I wouldn't be surprised if my parents took me to see Willy Wonka during the day, got a babysitter and then went back out to see Carnal Knowledge that night! :P

Love this movie and your reaction and comment great again. I love this movie, from being a kid to an adult, it never loses it magic. Gene Wilder is the only Willy Wonka and he is great. I have a golden ticket and pure imagination are songs I never tire of singing.

"We are the music makers, and we are the dreamers of dreams." I grew up with this movie and it's one of my favorites, super stoked you reacted to it! My friend had it on VHS which is how I first watched it. Gene Wilder is particularly amazing, how can you not smile during his intro with the cane?

Thanks so much for sharing this watch along. I never even would have remembered this wonderful movie if I wasn't reminded here. Watching it is so incredible, even today as it was 30 years ago. 100% magical.
