In the theater, each print had one of the three endings, so everyone got a different ending. Which is why the ending of the video version is structured this way. A friend of mine made it a point to research the theaters, so he could see all of the endings. The film was only moderately well received, but over time it's become more appreciated. Not only because the cleverness of the script, but because the cast of comedy legends, in their prime, has aged like a fine wine. So, Fun Facts: except for the front entry exterior and the ballroom (which was a location), the house was all a set. The exterior above the first floor was a matte painting. But it was all so beautifully executed (although the elaborate exterior was much bigger than the interior). And best of all, the director wanted at least a take or two from the script, but then allowed them to improvise (why waste comedy genius?). Mrs. White's "Flames - on the side of my face" was all improvised. This film does bear repeated viewing, just because it's fun. But didn't anyone ever wonder? The fireplace in the lounge in which the evidence is burned would have illuminated the room when the lights were switched off. . .
