■ xAI:
- Today during a Public Works committee hearing, the Memphis City Council placed a two week pause on a land sale of 13 acres to xAI. xAI offered up to $820,000 for this land even though the asking price is $482,000. It is to be used for a greywater plant xAI applied for last year. The land is directly between the xAI facility and the city’s T.E. Maxson Wastewater Treatment Plant.
Per xAI's Mark Carroll during a presentation on the Colossus facility, "It is the largest ceramic membrane wastewater facility in the world. The potential impact is solely positive. It reduces the demand on the aquifer and reduces any byproducts."
Mark stated xAI will wholly fund the plant’s $78.6 million construction. It could produce between 13 million and 14 million gallons of coolant daily. xAI would initially use about 2 million gallons per day for the current buildout. The TVA would use between 4 million to 4.5 million gallons a day, and Nucor Steel could use about 800,000 gallons a day. The remaining would be for future xAI expansion. If built, the greywater plant could save between 4.7 billion and 5.1 billion gallons of freshwater annually. Per xAI's
Per xAI's Brent Mayo (@BrentM_SpaceX) in an interview yesterday, "I work for a human that sustainability is one of if not the most important thing in the world, and so being able to preserve natural resources is something that we will always look to do, and he will always ensure that that’s a priority. And so when we go into it, it shows the community, etc. that we’re in, we are 100% vested into not taking away drinking water."
Nonetheless, the Memphis City Council committee voted to pause the vote on the proposed sale from what they said was due to a lack of transparency. Of note, the entire city of Memphis does not have a single greywater facility. If you would like to watch the hearing, the linkis in the sources section.
