More otters taking up the daring sport of naked hiking? Maybe they're seeking a deeper communion with nature, or some kind of agoraphilic thrill. I welcome the trend either way.

And I mean, it's not like I don't understand the appeal. One year, I had the pleasure of working for a drug company in Germany and in the middle of summer I took a drive out to the Harz mountains to see for myself if the rumors were true... Yeah, there WAS in fact a designated clothing-optional hiking trail winding 11 miles through the forests and fields. The trail was blazed with conspicuous "N" markers to reassure you the whole nudity thing was fine. The marked path did cross a couple of low-traffic public roadways, which evoked some pretty serious cognitive dissonance at the time, even if everything was totally unsurprising to the locals. All in all, a great experience and regular fuel for this kind of art.

I got sidetracked and spent a little longer on this one. There were a few bits I wanted to experiment with, like speckling of color around fur transitions, which I think looks kinda cute.

As an otter who loves naked, well, anything.... I can attest to the trend :p I would LOVE to go on a naked hike like that at some point. It sounds like it'd be quite liberating! Though to my credit I did get to visit a nude beach in Canada last month, so that was fun experience. The otter girl's beautiful, too. Loving the relaxed, casual vibe your nude pieces always evoke.

She’s lovely! That hiking trail sounds amazing, I wish we had that in the UK. I really envy Germany’s free body culture. There was a nude walk at a private estate near me last year, then a storm hit and I was too much of a wimp to go hiking naked in freezing rain 😆

Its fascinating bringing up the naked trails in Germany! Ive never heard of something like that before! Maybe thats because here in the US, being naked or even showing more skin than normal is considered unsightly, taboo, or even illegal depending on how much clothing you don't have. I know we have nude beaches but theyre definitely not very common or even publicized. (Think a, if you know you know kind of basis) I personally think humans should embrace the nude more often :p especially if youre in your own home, or among other people who don't mind like your partner or family. A good thought provoking art piece! Very lovely <3

Europe is usually quite a bit more laid back about such things it seems... Some of the naturist campgrounds in France looks beautiful, acreage amongst farmland, plenty of places to wander and natural waters to swim... Bucket list material, for sure! Perhaps that last point would be quite a draw for these otter hikers!

Ooh, I've been wanting to try out that Harz trail ever since I first found out about it. So far there's been nothing bringing me to that part of Germany (would need to rent a car), but it might be worth making a pilgrimage. Really glad to hear the positive review! What year were you there? I've done nude hiking before, but not on any designated trails... more like, I was going to college in the mountains, and I had a teenager's disregard for potential consequences. :D Thankfully, there were none, but I'd be more cautious these days.

I love that :D It's always been a surprisingly liberating experience for me when I get to visit a nude beach, and it doesn't happen nearly often enough. Where did you go, if I can ask? The hiking thing is a little trickier to figure out, but it's kind of the quintessential way to get in touch with nature. At least I can experience it through these characters when I'm unable to do it myself |3

I think we've got some similar bucket list items, haha. Nothing taps into their otter spirit more than being able to seamlessly transition between water and the shore, particularly when it's only their fur getting wet.

The cultural difference is definitely there, and sometimes it's pretty striking. It's also been pretty cool to know there are so many born and bred Americans who don't see the need for the taboo either. Being nude is such a basic thing that at the very least there's no reason not to enjoy it in your own home. And in more situations when the will is there :)

I was there in 2013, and it was wonderful! But I checked out some recent reviews and I see a lot of people complaining about the trails being poorly marked/maintained. So the situation might have changed. For naked hiking opportunities, I suppose beggars can't be choosers, but still... Yeah, the alternatives are riskier, but I do understand the desire to just get out there without anyone's permission x3 You're not alone, haha.

I’ve been pretty fortunate to be able to ditch my clothes behind a rock, hike to the far side of my local pond, then swim back to the same rock. Only about another week up here, I suppose. Oh, very early mornings on the weekdays, obviously, before anyone else shows up. It’s fantastic being the only car in the parking lot! 😁

Definitely! I can relate - a big part of the joy of creating New Atlantis was to experience one big world of wish-fulfillment like that. The beach I visited was Hanlan's Point in Toronto, which I learned has a lot of history!

There’s a couple of places that in my area where you can go nude hiking actually, but since I’m in the desert, you have to go at night because it’s open land.
