HANGOUT QUESTION: we love seeing your response to questions about the Like Us series, and it helps facilitate some awesome discussions! Each week, there'll be a new "hangout question" that you can answer in the comments, if you wish!

What is your favorite October tradition? Whether it's a spooky romance you always come back to, a Halloween movie, or even a sweet treat you bake! For us, we tend to watch one of our favs (Hocus Pocus, Halloweentown, or Practical Magic), and we always bake pumpkin bread!

Weekly Recap

Happy Friday, magical & heroic beauties!! It's October!!!!!! Loren Hale and Kinney Hale would be so pleased that their birthday month has arrived. We love October so much that we tend to have a lot of our books taking place over the fall and showcasing Halloween. We can't help it! It's just too fun.

We're deep in the writing trenches of Webs We Weave #3. It takes place over the summer, which is not the most ideal to write when we're trying our best to bask in the pumpkin spice season. HAHA! It's always so much fun when the stars align and we're writing the season we're currently in. It doesn't always happen that way though. But hey, this is the best of both worlds. It's imaginary summer in our heads and it'll be real fall outside 🍂😊

Here on Patreon, we've been dropping some key content. So in case you missed it, here's what went down this week:

My October tradition is the entire night watching horror movies on the last day of October with my siblings 👻🎃

.

I always reread addicted series in October. This month really belongs to hales for me 😭

vicki bishop

Leaf peeping & pumpkin cream cold brews!

cass (ben’s version)

personally i am a HUGE horror movie fan so this month is when i get to show my friends the goods. already worked through the conjuring and scream. next up is probably child’s play!

Abby (Eliot’s version)

October was the month I was ALWAYS guaranteed to be sick so television traditions began since I was usually stuck inside… I do Hocus Pocus at least three times (my fav Halloween movie!) as well as start a rewatch of Supernatural (I’m already into season 2 now!)… I also have to watch the Halloween episode in season 2 of Buffy which normally ends in me watching the rest of season 2 at least lol!! And throw in some early Gilmore Girls and I’m a happy girl! Glad writing is going well!! Anticipation is growing for DM in April, as well as the announcement in December about CE!! I’m sooo excited for what’s coming next year 🌸🖤💙 but I’m sending you all the good vibes for WWW3 as you juggle that AND Krista’s wedding this month!! Glad you were both ok after the storm too!! I was sending all the good thoughts your way 💕✨ hugs and love to you both!

I love decorating for Halloween and celebrating fall with a huge festival that takes place in my hometown! Time has passed so fast this year, I can't believe it's already October!!

Yasti

Halloween is really not a thing where I live, and it's also not autumn. Right now we're in springtime! But in the spirit of Halloween, my bestie and I are planning to have a cosy Halloween-themed movie night next week :) If anyone is reading this and has some recs, please let me know! We always take way too long to decide what we're watching 😂

Andrea

I just watch all the Halloween movies from my childhood lol and I usually don’t watch horror movies but I’ll try to watch a couple during the month to get in the spirit of it 😊

Arrow

I have so many Halloween traditions! I love the fall. The whole season opens up in our area the last weekend of September when they close down the Main Street and all the kids parade in their Halloween costumes with their schools. My favorite tradition comes next - visiting Apple farms!!! They are so much fun on the East coast. We just visited one and got a bunch of Apple Cider donuts today (and a large number of apples of course). I also have a very long list of movies I work through. Your favs are all on it. This year I’m also trying out these new ones (so far): Agatha All Along (I am OBSESSED. Love this show) Hold Your Breath (new Sarah Paulson horror on Hulu) Caddo Lake (produced by M Night Shayamalan - Max Original) Rose Red on Hulu (this one is nostalgia - I remember watching this as it aired with my dad in the early 2000s and completely forgot what happens - also one of the leads is Kimberly J. Brown from Halloweentown) Sorry that was so long. I’m just thrilled for the fall!

floralprintzzz🥀

Some October traditions I have are: -listening to the Witches by Roald Dahl on audiobook at least once. It has the best production with the wind and trees, the creaky stairs, and such a great narrator—it’s so atmospheric I highly recommend. -setting up my ofrenda (my family always set ours up early in the month, so as an adult that’s stuck with me) -watching Hocus Pocus, Practical Magic, and the Fear Street trilogy at least once -making as many soups and stews as I can, even if the weather doesn’t want to cooperate ;) -reading as many witchy/paranormal books and cozy mysteries as I can

Abby (Eliot’s version)

Apple farms!! I’ve always wanted to do something like that but I live in California and we don’t even have “Fall” so not so much availability for doing that here lol

Abby (Eliot’s version)

Seasons being different in the hemispheres always boggle my mind… I hope you’re enjoying Spring where you are Yasti!! And that you enjoy a cozy Halloween 🎃 love the three that KBR suggested, and I always watch the original Scream on Halloween as well for nostalgia’s sake (plus it never gets old!)

Arrow

I feel you! I have family who live in the desert region. I keep trying to convince them to visit by telling them that fall is so much more than pumpkin spice lattes!

Yasti

We’ve had a really, really cold and wet winter so it is a nice change up! 😇 Thanks for the suggestions 💞

Illyana

Hey girls, happy Monday! 😊 To answer the weekly blog post hangout question about my favorite October tradition, mine is definitely starts the 18th of September (I know, not quite October but it starts then 😅). That's the date I do my yearly reread of my all-time favorite series, The All Souls series by Deborah Harkness, because it’s the in-world date where the story starts—and it’s so powerful. 💫 I’ve probably talked your ears off about how much I love this series and how obsessed I am with it! Alongside the KBR universe, it has shaped me so much as a person growing up. It’s the series that inspired me to move to the UK and pursue a more scholarly life. The themes, the traditions, the morals—it’s just all so powerful. 🥰 I think I started reading KBR a little before this series, but I discovered All Souls as a teenager, and it's just packed with the same kind of things I know you all love— -found family, -an ongoing sophisticated series, -dynamic characters and ships -It’s full of dark academia vibes and deliciously detailed historical elements (thanks to the fact that Deborah Harkness herself is a history professor 📚). What I love is how well she tackles tough themes without getting preachy. For example, her exploration of religion through the vampire lens is fascinating. Vampires, having seen centuries of human spirituality and global changes, are in this sort of spiritual stasis. It’s so interesting to think about how a modern vampire processes all that firsthand knowledge of the world. 🌍 It makes for deep, existential questions woven into the story—without being too heavy. This series is just the perfect October read. The author herself described it as “Meet the Faulkners meets Practical Magic, with a spice of dark academia and spicey romances” and honestly, it’s the perfect pitch. 🎃 It’s about a reluctant witch who’s also a historian, and she comes across a dark academia novel that changes the entire world. Along the way, she meets a vampire (classic forbidden love 💔) and the romance is just chef’s kiss! What I especially appreciate now that I’m older is that the protagonist, Diana, isn’t a late tean still figuring out her life. She’s in her late 30s, she knows who she is, and she knows what she wants, she is quite established and comfortable being indpendent. It’s not your typical “coming-of-age” fantasy, and I think that makes it even more special. The romance, too, is so relatable. It’s not just about the thrill of falling in love, but about staying in love, building a family, and balancing all of that with a career, and magic —something we talk about all the time! The series nails those complexities that most romances ignore. 💖 Plus, the latest novel, The Blackbird Oracle (Book 5), is peak witchy goodness and just... wow. I’ve seen this series compared to Outlander a lot, but honestly, I find All Souls to be much more approachable. Outlander is great for what it is, but it can get bogged down in side plots, whereas All Souls keeps the focus tight and rewarding. (Though, let’s be real, the fact that Outlander still hasn’t explained the time travel thing nine books in? 😬 Yeah, that’s a bit frustrating.) If you’re a fan of Practical Magic, you’ll adore Diana’s family—they’re so similar and were clearly inspired by it. 🔮 The TV show for All Souls is great (especially the casting of Diana and Matthew. Matthew was PERFECT. But i took extreme issue with the way they casted vampires older especially Matthew’s mother), but it just doesn’t capture the intricate hocus-pocus details that make the books so special for me. Every time I reread it, just like with KBR, I find new layers and learn so much more. It has all the tropes we live for—second chance love, enemies to lovers, academic professors falling for each other, queer rep, found family, and yes, actual Renaissance princes 😍. It’s honestly my favorite series in the fantasy genre because of the scope of what it’s doing. And guess what? Deborah confirmed we’re not even halfway through the series yet. 🙌 So yeah, The All Souls series is my favorite October tradition, along with all the Halloween movies you guys always recommend. 🎃 I hope this has encouraged someone to pick it up, because it’s just that good. It’s one of the most unique and accessible fantasy series out there, and it only gets better with time. Happy reading, witches! ✨📖

I don’t have too many traditions! There’s a farmers’ market in my area that has a pumpkin patch and a corn maze, as well as other various fall-themed items / displays, so I try to go there at least once every fall season to soak up the vibes! :) 🍁🍁

Jess

I like to try and read all spooky/creepy books in October.

Shelby Keating

Random but I NEED a bonus scene of charlie and oscar outside the bus after his fight with ben in ch. 56 of NLU, I wanna see how Charlie acted once he didn’t have an audience and how oscar calmed him down enough to not fly to prague

Illyana

Oh ! I forgot to include probably the most important thing! My Pinterest board i have been updating almost daily for almost a decade for the beloved series :’). I think it really helps shine the vibe of the series, for those who are more inclined by visuals like me hehe https://uk.pinterest.com/jackquelinereads/lit-all-souls-universe/

Krista & Becca Ritchie

Ohhh that reminds me that I still need to finish that TV series!!! I feel like season two came out so late after the first Discovery of Witches, but now’s such a good time to jump back in for the October vibes!! Might be my binge after Buffy! I love how you said that All Souls is more focused on the main plot instead of the side quests like Outlander. That’s been the harder part of keeping up with the Outlander show. I still need to hop back in that one, too.

Krista & Becca Ritchie

Oh I loveee visiting apple farms!! Where I ended up moving to has so many in about 15 mins away. It's the perfect apple farm time of year!

Krista & Becca Ritchie

Supernatural is such a good October show!! Makes me want to watch the pilot episode again :D

Abby (Eliot’s version)

The first season is just amazing!! And the pilot?! 😍🫠 totally made me fall in love instantly!
