I've seen this anime 3 times now and it never fails to amaze me

Thanks for your reaction, it was a lot of fun! In case you or other viewers are interested, the ending in the Anime differs quite a bit from that in the Manga, I will try to briefly highlight the most important differences: Mikami does not kill himself, he instead renounces Light, screaming that he is not God. Light does not escape the warehouse, instead he begs Ryuk to kill the others. Ryuk pretends to agree to do so and the others try to shoot him, to no avail. Ryuk then reveals that he instead is writing Light's Name, who will die in 40 seconds of a heart attack. The things he says in his monologue in the Anime he says directly to Light in the Manga. A flashback reveals that when they first met and Ryuk told Light that users of the Death Note cannot go to Heaven or Hell, Light deduced that Heaven and Hell do not exist, which Ryuk confirmed. He told him that death is equal and all humans go to the same place after they die. So him saying that thing about Heaven and Hell was basically just a prank^^ Light then clings to Ryuk, screaming and crying that he does not want to die. It is even more pathetic than in the Anime, which I love :D He finally dies of a heart attack in front of the others. He does not see a vision of L in his final moments. Also Misa is not shown in the Manga, the scene of her supposedly jumping off the roof is also an Anime addition. However, it is officially stated that Misa dies on Valentine's Day the following year and the author said that she "likely commits suicide".

Thank you both, IMMENSELY, for these incredible reactions to one of my favourite animes of all time (along with Code Geass), your reaction at the end, wow. Incredible

The last panels of the Death Note manga (chapter 108, "Finis") show thousands of hooded figures walking in a candlelight procession through high mountains. The crowd parts, and a woman in white prays at a mountain's edge, calling Kira "our savior."

This is my second rewatch, and it thought me something about myself, and about our human nature overall. My first watch was when I was 16 or 17, and I was on Light side all the way to the end, with his agenda and way of thinking, killing is not good, but if you kill the bad folk and clean the world in that way, then we might have a little bit of a nicer world to live in and for it. I was bummed to see this ending, to see Light break composure, and let his ego take over so strongly, that evil laugh at the end just broke my heart. Now on this rewatch with you together, im 30 year old now. My way of thinking has changed, I have matured, I see the bigger picture, and I see the consequences of doing things a certain way, and I even understand the consequences that will be revealed only after the thought or the doing [if it makes any sense]. I was so naive back then, a stupid 17 year old that thought he had enough "people" experience or "the world" experience, to know that I side with Light. back then I thought If I was in Light shoes, I would have done better. Today I understand that I wasn't different than Light, arrogant, full of himself, egoistic, thinks he's smart. I can only hope that I humbled down all these years, this second rewatch gave me an insight about myself, that I was just so childish [17.....duhh] and it's very interesting how world views and values, agendas, change as you grow up. I'm the complete opposite as I was, at least I wish I am.

All mortals die to the note book, though it is normally a death god who fills in your name. Light simply died of his wounds. Ryuk already knew when Light was supposed to die, and he was the one to reap him in the end. Also, been sitting on this quote since the beginning of the show: "Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely"

Mimi

Great summary! I think it's worth adding that with the manga ending, some time passes and it's stated the world returns to normal, so crime rates go back up - and we get dialogue from the task members Light had been "working with" where they wonder if killing Light had been the right choice. Also, the Kira cult is still around

Man this is a great ending, this monologue from light is still one of the best moments to me in death note. Idk how people can drop it at episode 25 man. Light was solidified as one of the best villains in fiction for me after that episode honestly. Favourite character in the show by far for me.

Cherry

Light was once incredibly intelligent, a womanizer, loved by everyone, a genius student, had a god power. And he ends up dying alone in some abandoned warehouse, lying in a pool of his own blood, with no one left to help him. He betrayed and manipulated everyone around him. Great ending and great reactions girls, thx.

Solo Leveling and Death note. Two peak shows ended the same day. Truly sad times 😔

A great ending for a great series. Seeing L at the end still hurts. As a side note, I’ll tell you that there are two Death Note movies called “Death Note: Relight”, which are a recap of the series, but both the first and the second include a few extra minutes that add to the story and aren’t in the original series. They’re a real gem. I’m sure they’re on YouTube, so you can check them out.

February 2020... Covid's lockdown, when I gave in and subscribed to all the streaming services, and my first flat screen TV, is when I first watched Deathnote for the first time. These years later makes a great time to revisit. Thank you ladies. On to new adventures!! Take care, H & K !!

Of course this anime does not feel outdated. It's gonna be only 20 years old in october this year ^^ The OST is so great! Of all the things the anime has to offer this I love the most. Those guitars, bells and choirs from mid '00s era just hit different :) Soooo isn't ending wars and dropping crime rate drastically actually a good recommendation for Kira? 🤔 Maybe he was a good guy after all! Kiss looked so sad by the end. :C That can happen when you get to the end of a great story, be it anime, a movie or a book. I can not imagine what will happen to us when Oda will deliver the ending of OP XD

Jordan Grinde

I cant believe its been 20 years since this show came out and I watched it when it aired. Man the nostalgia.

Jordan Grinde

That's what happens when you give absolute power and authority to God complex sociopaths, especially when they are that young and easy to corrupt.

ChangoLife

I remember when I watched this anime as a child; it still evokes those same emotions in me because of Light, thanks for all girls

Manny

Misa’s ending was different in the manga but I still think her ending in the anime was accurate to her character as well. Her love for Light was immense. And that type of devotion she had was scary. She wasn’t innocent either. She put him in front of everyone else without a single thought. She didn’t want to live in a world without Light. Haunting stuff.

Mr. Toastman

Lmao, I think "womanizer" is probably the wrong description. He was closer to a misogynist, than womanizer.

Raunak Xrestha

LIGHT DIES RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STAIRCASE SIGNIFYING THAT HE WILL NOT GO TO HEAVEN NOR HELL.

Astera

She commits suicide in the manga too though, it's explicitly stated that she dies, in the Anime they don't say it it's just implied

Manny

Oh yeah I’m the supplementary book if I recall. Here they get rid of the ambiguity and skip to where she ends it.

Oh! That Robin

This was such a great series! Thank you for your reactions! If you want more great Death Note content, the Japanese movies by VIZ Media are actually wonderful adaptations and the third one “L: Change the WorLd” is actually a new case for L that made me very emotional. I highly *highly* recommend that trilogy (but you’re gonna wanna stay away from the American made Netflix one xD)

SS

A great show, even for audiences that might not enjoy anime. And truly timeless. Light also fearing death in his final moments was something. Alot of different emotions. Thanks for the watch.

Hertog

Thank you for the reaction! I wouldn't have minded an ending in which Light won since I was always a light supporter since the very start. Either way, a beautiful end to a beautiful show.

Andrew

For the past year or two I've occasionally resubbed to the patreon to follow along with shows I love (AoT, Mob Psycho, etc.) and this was an absolute pleasure to watch alongside y'all. Thanks for the videos!
