They're not sick. If you sneeze that means someone's talking about you. Have you never heard about that?

Thanny

Japanese culture has the notion that being talked about behind your back causes physical symptoms, usually sneezing. I doubt many believe it for real, but it's a common trope in anime. So the Nekoma guys were reacting to being talked about by their Karasuno counterparts.

Rigged

yeah they don't know, because it already happened multiple times in the One Piece watch along and they didn't get it X)

Yathavan

feeling chills when they have ill intent about you or getting fired up like tanaka and his nekoma twin was another example of this

JAMES D'ALESSANDRO

Btw, no one on Nekoma was actually getting sick. The show was just using a common anime trope when I character is talking about another that is far away and they sneeze or get the chills. I this case they did both

You may want to watch the "Lev Appears!" OVA before episode 2x4, if you haven't already recorded that episode.

Yeah, if something directly isn't explained to them the nuances of japanese culture can allude them. Think about every SBS so far. We as anime fans are so spoiled with the unintended cultural brain rewiring. Like why do I understand Japanese puns and don't know how to speak Japanese? lol

The birds going AHO AHO when the boys got lost indeed were calling them idiots, haha! Such a fantastic start of my favorite season of the show.

Today's name drop is Shiratorizawa and their star player Wakatoshi Ushijima aka "Japan." So, "Shiratori" literally means "white bird" and in Japanese a "white bird" generally means a swan but the show took the liberty of making it a white eagle likely to make the opponent appear more intense and ominous. The naming behind Ushijima is kinda layered so try to keep up. His nickname, besides "Japan" as coined by Hinata, is "Ushi-Waka" (taking the first two syllables of his last name and first name). This refers to a boy named "Ushiwakamaru" (translated as "Young Bull") who later became a samurai commander in 12th Century Japan. During this time in Japan, children would be given a child's name at birth and an official first name to go with the family name when they turn into an adult. Ushiwakamaru later became Minamoto no Yoshitsune, which is how he's remembered in the history books. Yoshitsune is said to be buried in the Miyagi Prefecture where this anime takes place.
