Romance was never going to be a focus of Haikyuu, but Kanoka's side story with Tanaka is one of the best side stories in the series. That final acceptance is both heartbreaking and heartwarming.

After gleaning so many comments sections of reactions to this episode I found this comparison from one, which said: "Bokuto and Tanaka are two sides of a coin, Bokuto outclasses Tanaka in every way as a player, but Tanaka has the one strength Bokuto doesn't have, which is his mental toughness" My favorite episode in the whole series!!!

One of Haikyuu's crowning moments. I think many of us can relate to Tanaka's struggle of feeling average compared to the people around you. But it's like Kiss said, real mental toughness is your ability to bounce back from bad situations, and Tanaka has shown us that nothing will ever keep him down.

It’s interesting to hear him speak on his own capabilities being average when compared to his team and others because it never seems that way. To me his mental toughness is what makes his athletic ability special.

That’s why he’s our senpai!!! He’s been that supportive rock since day one. It’s not that he was doing bad at all. It’s just one of those things where a team might capitalize on one player. The way I see it everyone else stuck out in someway. While the few times Tanaka has touched the ball maybe wasn’t seen as much. But that’s all that’s needed to make you a target. And I love that they used Tanaka for this because it’s something that can happen to anyone. You have your team of course but sometimes you have to dig yourself out otherwise they won’t let up on you. But no doubt our boy was going to crush it in the end! 🥹
