This was a really light hearted romance with some really dark moments surprisingly. Hadn't heard of this film until very recently which is so surprising since this was such a good animated film. Enjoy :)

Did you know that the drawing of Anastasia was her ACTUAL drawing ?)) I 'm glad they've took smth from real story . But the real story is much dark and no happy ending at all for all 4 sisters , brother, family and even servants..

Movie that is most commonly mistaken for a Disney

I'm so happy you're watching a lot of animated movies recently! You truly make my life a bit better ☺️. Thank you for that.

Thanks Oscar 😊 may I suggest The Sound of Music or The phantom of the opera (not animated, I know, but should you ever want to do reactions to them) Also, I think the year at the beginning was 1916. And yes, that was the Mrs. Potts actress 💜

This movie is loosely based on real events. The Russian Imperial family were secretly killed and hastily buried. Soon after people began to believe that Anastasia survived bc the Soviet government wasn’t clear about what happened to the family. Several people came forward pretending to be Anastasia but they were all imposters. I believe her body was found in 2007 not far from where the rest of the family had been found years earlier. It’s a very sad story.

I dont know if it helps but trauma can really messed up your memory especially for kids. In one night she lost all of her family who was brutally murdered and was then chase by a psycho that wanted to kill her and yes finally she hit her head. I think we can all agree that living through this at 8 yo can be qualified as a huge trauma. I loved you reaction and can't wait for the next animated movie 😁.

I love this movie so much!! It was one of my favorites growing up

This movie is my childhood, I've seen it SO many times, and heard the songs a gazillion times :D Beautiful animation and story. Much darker in reality of course. Alan Rickman plays Rasputin in the movie titled Rasputin, from 1996, really good movie, you should for sure check it out to see a more realistic take on the story.

Such an incredible movie! Once upon a December is such a beautiful piece. Amazing soundtrack.

This movie meant so much to me as a child! I remember in middle school for our winter concert we performed Once Upon a December in the chorus. It was awesome!

Rhetorical Thrill

Yeah, "creepy and dark" is kind of Don Bluth's thing. A few of his others are worth checking out, he made a lot of important contributions to animation. Though I personally find most of his movies heavily flawed, a lot of people like them.

Why no sound or video on these?

You're right. The story is a little creepy. As was mentioned before, the Romanovs were a real royal family of imperial Russia who were killed during the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917 - like the French Revolution, the disparity between the Royals and the common folk was too much for some to handle. The music was written by Broadway composers Steven Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens, and the cast was loaded with well-known actors of the times. Anastasia was played by Meg Ryan, Dimitri by John Cusack, Rasputin by Christopher Lloyd. The Dowager Empress was in fact played by the same voice as Mrs. Potts as you were guessing, the legendary film and stage actress Angela Lansbury. Vladimir was played by Kelsey Grammar most well-known for his portrayal of Frasier Crane on the series Cheers and Frasier. And Vladimir's love interest Sophie was played by another legendary Broadway actress, Bernadette Peters. Oh! And Bartok the Bat, was played by Hank Azaria from the movie The Birdcage and most famous for his many roles on The Simpsons. :)

I saw this in the movie theater about a billion times. the animation rivals disney, atleast for this movie. the voice talent - speaking and singing was incredible.

My guess is that it was both the hit in the head and the trauma from those memories of the terrible things that hapoend that caused her memory loss as kind of a trauma response of her brain to protect her, the brain sometimes does that when someone has lived through something very traumatic and what happend to the Romanovs was VERY traumatic to a child her age (i think she was a little older in real life but sadly she didn't survive here..)
