Watercolor Cosmos Flower (Patreon)

🌸 New Watercolor Tutorial: Dreamy Cosmos Bloom 🌸

Hello art friends!

Today I'm sharing this soft and colorful cosmos watercolor with you. Our follow Patron @Karin Kersteter took this beautiful photograph and shared it in the group for us to paint!!

I was drawn to the delicate petals, rich violet shadows, and those beautiful little buds waiting to bloom. There's something so peaceful about cosmos flowers—their name actually comes from a Greek word meaning harmony and beauty, which feels fitting for these graceful blooms.

In this tutorial, we'll explore:

✨ Creating soft, glowing petals with layered watercolor washes✨ Adding depth with rich purples and pinks✨ Painting flower buds and foliage with simple brushstrokes✨ Using negative painting and texture for a dreamy background✨ Bringing the flower to life with highlights and details

One of my favorite things about painting flowers is watching them emerge from loose washes into something recognizable and full of personality. Cosmos may look delicate, but they're surprisingly resilient flowers, making them a wonderful reminder that beauty and strength often go hand in hand.

I'd love to know:

💜 Have you ever painted cosmos flowers before?💜 Do you prefer painting fully opened blooms or flower buds?

Share your finished paintings in the community when you're done. I always enjoy seeing the unique colors, styles, and creative touches everyone brings to the same reference.

Happy painting!
