Reminder! The July Story Poll will end at midnight tomorrow. Make sure you've gotten your votes in!

Right! With that reminder out of the way...time for the Battle of Geonosis! Or the start of it, anyway. This is the first battle of the Clone Wars that I'm showing in greater detail than just bits and snippets. There's a limit to how much detail I can go into, of course, without the benefit of visuals to lean on. But it, at the very least, consumed all of this update...to get halfway through the battle. Meaning the total battle for the planet will likely end up being around 20,000 words, since it's slated to take up most or all of the first July update as well.

Battles done in such level of detail won't be the norm. Practically, they can't be if I don't want the story to drag out for literal years. But I felt it was important to do at least one or two in fairly serious depth, to show how the war differs from canon Star Wars. There are a lot of things that don't add up about ground battles in canon, and I'm attempting to make mine line up a bit more realistically. To not spoil things, I'll talk about a few bits of that more in the Author's Notes in the comments.

Anyway! As usual, the new content is attached here. Since this is the second and final update of the month for this fic, I will also be updating the Master Files in the Pinned Post. Enjoy the latest release of 'Can One Displaced Hero Save the Galaxy?'!

Chapter 141: A/N 1: Okay, time to talk numbers again. Yes, the planet is canonically listed as having a population of 100 billion. Which, of course, means that the force Yoda brought was HILARIOUSLY inadequate if we take things at face value. It would have been like spitting on a sun and hoping it kindly went out for you. The League is putting damn near 10% of it's total ground assets into this assault, and will STILL need a kill ratio of 20 to 1 to succeed. Mind you, that's actually PLAUSIABLE with them, because they likely achieved more like 100 to 1 in the initial attack, due to the incredibly ridiculous sabotage, made possible only by Battle Meditation to pull off. They KNOW they are going into a meat grinder, and did everything in their power to stack the deck in their favor. Given superior tech, orbital control, and a lot more experience, they bring the battle into the 'this might be plausible' range, instead of the 'nope, fuck that, we don't have nearly enough troops' range. A/N 2: The Champions are something I had planned for a while, the fruition of the Ossus Academy bringing together so many Force groups. They aren't very numerous, there being less than 150 of them in total. Yet, they are insanely capable as they are far more FOCUSED than even Jedi Guardians. They also don't make up even close to Ossus's full numbers. Ossus, at this point, as a few thousand students in varying levels of training. The advantage of not caring what age or background your students come from having allowed them to grow much faster than the Jedi. Particularly as the worlds within Hutt Space hadn't exactly been recently visited by Seekers looking for Force Sensitives... A/N 3: This DID give me a good chance to show just how big a difference Izuku can make with Battle Meditation. In Legends/EU, Palatine could pull the same trick with ever larger fleets, the abrupt lack of it when he died contributing in a major way to the fleet at Endor breaking down and running. You can see near the end of the chapter where Izuku hits a wall, though. He's good, likely the best living user of Battle Meditation at this point, but he's not the crazy levels that Legends Palaptine would have eventually reached. A/N 4: The Gunships were previously included in the complements of the Mirukos and Paladins, but hadn't been named or see yet. A/N 5: The Wild Weasel Wing is, of course, based of the actual tactics used starting in Vietnam, modified to fit better with a sci-fi setting.

Chapter 142: A/N 1: Yeah, all of that was just to deal with THREE of the Hives on the planet, yikes. The next update in July will focus on the Ground Campaign to take out the other Hives...possibly the next TWO updates, depending on how it goes. Again, I won't be doing detailed battles like this often, but I felt it was important to cover at least one, to give a few of the war at that level.

First you burn them, then you roast them, then you bomb the place until nothing is left.

Out of all the things the empire did, I personally agree with the quarantine and attempted genocide of the geonosians, the mind control worms are part of their species so as long as they exist it’ll be a risk

Novus's Fanfiction Works

I mean, by that argument, you kinda need to wipe out a half dozen other species that aren't as evil. Like the Zeltrons, who's pheromones/telepathy amount to a form of mind control.

Eh idk feels like the mind worm has more possibilities of being used dangerously just imagine if they started slipping worms into high ranked people like even with the force they just didn't know until it was in Thier face even though 2 of Thier companions got taken over which feels a little iffy but not sure if lore wise they could just no sell Thier danger precog like that since mind controlling worm sounds pretty dangerous Also idk how to feel about how semi limited izuku is in battle meditation like I get not making him all powerful and all but everything I know about it and how you've described his connection to the force seems like the one area he should be the least limited in since he has the most direct connection between everyone idk probably a lot of factors I'm not considering but seeing that it's possible to use it in multi system massive fleet battle then seeing izuku struggle with one planet also as far as I know wouldn't the force gessalt actually help with battle meditation since it's basically pools everyone together in an almost hive mind ? And with the other fleet why didn't they just have the force users preset a close jump but not the extremely precise one even if a little more spread out they would be much closer or couldn't one of the best at it meditate a collective jump pretty sure it's not a requirement to have one on ship and it's not even a force sensitive needed to perform it non force sensitive can just requires a lot more effort with Thier torus they could have gotten detailed scans of the system the wells and everything that would affect it then setup the hyperjumps into the gravity well with the full fleet Hell didn't thran or whatever use intirductor ships to have allowed forces be able to jump directly alongside enemy forces just feels a bit weird that only a portion of the fleet made the jump and the rest had to take the long trek into system

Regarding the battle meditation, my impression is that Palpatine usually used it more for maintaining purpose and commitment in his military, as well as generally smoothing coordination, whereas Izuku here was directly enhancing his personnel and assisting in combat engagement, thereby taking on a much higher load. In addition, Palpatine would have had decades more experience, and would either have been working similarly locally (Endor) or from a place of power (the Force nexus under the Imperial Palace). Furthermore, Izuku has been shown to struggle with accepting Force guidance, which is likely adding to the cost he experiences. Finally, both in Legends and in-universe here, overuse of the Force is shown to have consequences, and even someone with the best force connection in a place of power with active support of other Force users will still burn themselves out (sometimes literally) if they channel too much power (see Dorsk 81). Overall, for the first time Izuku's shown performing Battle Meditation at this scale (at least that I can remember), I think the portrayal is reasonable. As for Thrawn's trick with using Interdictors for precision hyperspace jumps, from what I remember, that was treated in-universe as a significant and novel tactical advancement, so it's reasonable that the tactic isn't in the playbook yet.

Not sure if you've noticed, I only noticed just now, but this is your largest fic by file size at least. At one point I had been watching/comparing it with My Hero Automata, but I'd never checked the final update's size against Displaced Hero (I've been letting a big backlog of Displaced Hero chapters build up so I could go on a proper binge). My phone shows My Hero Automata at 1.0MB and Displaced Hero at 1.2MB. So a belated congratulations on your newest fic to claim the "Largest fic" title.

I think something’s wrong with the files on this one.
