Reminder! The August Story Poll is still running until the 25th, so make sure to get your votes in!

Now, with the usual poll reminder out of the way, it's time for the second Stripper With a System release for July! Almost identical in word count to the first one, weirdly (seriously, the first was 10,097 words, this one 10,095 words), so I firmly hit the goal for the month :-). Things start to jump forward a little bit (small jumps), as Rylia and her crew of summons start struggling a bit to deal with the many, many irons they already have in the fire. Including an issue that's been on the back burner for a while...

This release will be followed up within a day or two by a poll for the next summon, which won't be a political or military expert just yet (they are still 14 years out from ME:1 and honestly in early buildup phase still). Instead, for reasons that will be obvious once you read the chapters, the next Summon will be an explorer/archeologist type. I have a small list of possibilities already, but the only one firmly on the finalized list is Lara Croft, and I usually provide up to five options on the poll. So, if you have a suggestion, feel free to comment with said suggestion! Just don't be offended if I don't pick them, please :-). A lot of the time options that would, in fact, be good ones, are discarded by me more out of unfamiliarity with their source material than because they are a poor choice. It's hard to write characters you have no knowledge of or familiarity with, after all!

For now, enjoy the current release of Stripper With a System! As usual, the new chapters are attached to this post. Since this is the final July update of this story, I will also be updating the Master Files shortly. Also as usual, expect Author's Notes in the comments, once I have a bit of time to actually write them!

Novus's Fanfiction Works

Chapter 25 A/N 1: Bruce: "If you murder a murderer, you haven't changed the number of murderers in the world!" Lucy: "Duh, that's why I get a bunch of murderhobos to kill a bunch of OTHER murderhobos instead. Not only is it more efficient, I make money doing it!" A/N 2: Hints of the POSSIBLE inclusion of Kara in the pairing. It's not set in stone yet and will be subject to a poll before it is. Frankly, given the premise of this particular story, I'm not going to even bother running a poll on if it should be a multi-ship or not -_-. It IS going to be a multi-ship, though size has yet to be determined.

Novus's Fanfiction Works

Chapter 26 A/N 1: This chapter was a little important, as I needed to show WHY I'm not having Rylia rush to get 'ALL THE TECHS!' Realistically, it takes actual TIME to make proper use of each development. Worse, every new product they involve themselves with strains their multitasking. Eventually, they'll have enough local talent whose loyalty they've gained to hand off running individual aspects too. Something which they are already starting to do with Maiden's Mercy and Sprocket Technologies. But, for the moment, they have to have someone from their core group heavily involved in laying the foundations, meaning they are already struggling just to juggle what they have. It's a place where a lot of Tinker of Fiction type stories, and similar, break down. There's just no realistic way you could make use of everything as fast as those stories build. Not even with a lot of automation.

Novus's Fanfiction Works

Chapter 27 A/N 1: Amusingly enough, the Asari names in this chapter were created using a generator, despite the fact they look like I was trying to make porn names, with things like Seyyx T'moai. Ultimately, they amused me enough and aren't quite ridiculous, so I kept them :-p.

Novus's Fanfiction Works

Chapter 28 A/N 1: I do not like Javik. Javik is a giant dick who I'd honestly rather just...leave in stasis, instead of having him aboard my ship. That said, Rylia is aware that having an actual living Prothean (or more than one) to prove the Reaper threat would be insanely valuable. Though the question of WHEN to dig him up, and how to do so without triggering the Reaper invasion early, is something she's puzzling over. A/N 2: So, the MAP of Mass Effect cover the whole Milky Way...which is a problem, as there are far too few worlds to actually make that make sense. The way I've set things up, as Rylia outlined the Reaper methodology, is how I rationalize that. A/N 3: Now you see why the next person they summon is going to be an Explorer/Archeologist type. Even ignoring the usefulness for projects like Therum and Eden Prime, the Probes that Kara and Rylia sent out to look for the end results of previous Cycles/Harvest have hit paydirt in places. They need someone trustworthy to start leading expeditions into those revealed areas, to turn up as much evidence and useful information/tech as possible.

Dominique Brassel

Mh so archaeologist I have a small list here not ranked: -indiana Jones -Nathan Drake -Lara Croft -professor Layton -Sylens(Horizon) -Nico Robin -midori Sugiura(My-Hime) -Kyouka Hiragi(Tokyo ESP) I almost included Liara.... You could perhaps sponsor Liara to do some digs as well... Next some explorers -Lina Invers(The Slayers) -Eloy -The Terrarien(Terraria) -someone from Star trek -someone from Star gate -someone from Star wars Also I would say you should include people who could fulfill multiple roles

Tsorov

Great list! I'd add to that for star Wars: Jedi Master Fay, a Jedi who is known for wandering where the force needs her. Maybe the Force of this Universe will Help against the Reaper? Captan Kirk from Star Trek, consdering tht his ship is an Exploration vessel first and foremost (alhough he is more of a commander than a personal explorer)

Phil Meyering

Maybe choose a sane Dr Valen (XCOM) or Dr Shen (XCOM). Honestly, I like how your first duo worked out with the shadow broker. Maybe you could go with a similar system for the archeology.

Donan The Barbarian

Depending on the karma cost AND the skills gained/area that NEEDS the archaeology skills covered could we possibly end up with both Lara Croft AND a version of Indiana Jones being summoned? Extra points for them both being from a reality where the other had a famous counterpart but they never met in person?

2026-09-08 02:00 I do like this chapter a lot, ngl, tho another stream reaction might be good to add in some point soon, cause I honestly forgot she did that until you added that line to Kara’s part. Speaking of ships tho, probably the biggest short to medium term advancement Rylia could build/buy would be some type of capital scale viable turreted weapon so that warships don’t need to be designed around coaxial mass drivers? And you *should* be capable of doing that with pure mass effect tech, though it would likely take diving deeper into nuclear armament design than we see in the games to make bomb pumped lasers or fusion lances if she wants to anything without years of rnd required for effective particle beam weapons?

Oldwinterfang

I recognise like half of the people here but the ones I do see make sense. Excluding sylens as he would definitely get himself corrupted by a reaper. He is way too curious not to try and poke a reaper like he did hades…

Once again, a great chapter! Your chapter releases have become a highlight of my week. Even better that there are multiple releases per week! ;) As for the summons: As far as I'm concerned, it should be someone who comes from a more high-tech setting, as that would make it much easier for them to work with and identify alien technology. With that in mind, I'd like to throw the name Samantha Carter from Stargate into the ring. While she's not an archaeologist per se, she has more than enough experience in this kind of role. Especially in an "explore alien worlds while researching alien life and technology" setting, she is very experienced. She has leadership experience, and both her military background and her expertise as a scientist who regularly works with alien technology can only come in handy. They could also be put to use in different roles later in the story. If you make her background that she comes from an Earth that wasn't as lucky with the Ori, Wraith, etc. as the canon Earth, it could also easily explain why she "sold" herself to the Marketplace. Never mind that she's female and good-looking, which seems to be a bit of a theme. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Novus's Fanfiction Works

Glad you liked the chapters :-). There has already been a somewhat recentish Stream reaction, not from the July releases, but the June ones. Specifically, that was the set of chapters that showed Jane Shepard watching the stream. That said, there will probably be another before too much longer. Nuclear weapons are restricted by the Citadel Council. Absolutely forbidden for use on Garden Worlds, though the implication is that they are fine for deep space engagements. That said, they would be very unlikely to be happy seeing them in civilian, or even militia, hands. Conversely, your mention of Bomb Pumped lasers isn't too far off some of my intentions...specifically to have Rylia reach into the Honor Harrington verse. She'll be focusing on their mounted energy weapons, not their missiles, though. Without the gravity sidewalls of an Honorverse ship, the mounted energy grasers have a million kilometer effective range. Which is honestly more than enough for Mass Effect. Since everyone else is using mass accelerators that would be extremely difficult to hit an evading ship with at even half that range, it should bring energy weapons of solid power within engagement ranges used by ME fleets...

I'm a little reluctant to pull too many dual summons, simply because eventually having too many characters will get unwieldly. Given that they'd potentially be away for significant amounts of time running independent operations, it wouldn't in impossible in this case, but I'd have to have a REALLY good argument for it. Which I currently don't. She doesn't really need multiple experts in this.

Novus's Fanfiction Works

*looks at the Xcom games he's owned for years on steam but has never gotten around to playing* Umm...yes! Totally good options! I absolute (don't) know who those are!

Novus's Fanfiction Works

Nathan Drake is an option, though I'm afraid I've never played the games with him, so a less attractive one. Professor Layton I had to look up, I had no idea who that was :-p. Same with Midori and Kyokua... Nico Robin is on my current list of possibles, but I'm a little leery of the tech level discrepancy. She'd need quite a bit of time to get up to speed, though I'm confident she could do it. Lina Inverse and Tsorov's suggestion of Fey are both out since I've explicitly stated, repeatedly, 'no magic' and both are heavily magic (or Force) reliant. Eloy...I think you mean Aloy, from Horizon? She's a good idea. She proved she could handle Horizon's tech base, and understands part of it. Not sure who The Terreien is even after a Google attempt.

Aeden Emrys

Thanks for another great update! I hope 🙏 we will at some point get visuals on the different ships, shuttles, and mechs they are building, as it will be much easier to picture 😉 scenes in this great story better! About the possible archaeologist, what about Daniel Jackson from Stargate? He would be a nice addition! Thanks for your great work on this greatly interesting story 😁! I look forward to reading much more!

Novus's Fanfiction Works

Oh! Daniel Jackson is a good idea. Though...hmmm...he might need to come paired with Samantha Carter. Or possibly even her and not him. Daniel's expertise was only really useful because he was an expert in human history, which wouldn't apply to the places Rylia wants to send teams...

Novus's Fanfiction Works

I'm glad you're enjoying the new schedule :-)! Samantha is absolutely a good option, I think she's the first suggestion from the comments I'm definitely going to add. She has the tech savvy and experience with alien ruins, as you pointed out.

Aeden Emrys

True, Sam would also be an extremely good choice and she is an amazing scientist and engineer, who would bring with her a lot of knowledge of technology from the Stargate universe! Sam would certainly be good. Both Sam and Daniel would be great!

Sadalfa

The Honorverse is one of my absolute favorite sci-fi series, and Honor would have been my favorite pick for the military commander, but I'm not sure if she's popular enough to actually win a poll.

Dominique Brassel

The terrarian is the pc and main char of the game terraria

twilightwanderer

Thanks for another great update! The Brucy Show at the beginning was particularly fun, and it's nice to get a glimpse of Dark Shepard (aka Tela). I also really liked the last section for its explanation of the "unexplored" space. Keep up the great work!

twilightwanderer

Only one edit I noticed, you said something was "neigh-impossible" instead of "nigh-impossible"

Captain2003Rex

Thanks for the update! Man, seeing a bunch of good suggestions in the comments here for the next summon. Guess I’ll throw a wildcard in the ring then lol: Professor Ellen Anders from Halo Wars. No real reason for her in particular beyond that she’s a human scientist in the Halo universe, which means she has at least some level of knowledge and familiarity with advanced technology, both Human and Alien. Also, if you nab a version of her that already went through the events of the first Halo Wars game with the UNSC Spirit of Fire (never played the second), then she’d have some experience with exploring new and potentially dangerous environments involving alien technology. Honestly tho, I’d imagine that there’s at least one character from Halo that would be a better candidate than Anders. I just never got too deep into the books and stuff, so I can’t say lol. DEFINITELY not Halsey tho! She’s a brilliant scientist but, very questionable morals aside, she is absolutely not an archeologist like what we would need here lmao.

twilightwanderer

As for the upcoming poll, there's the obvious and already mentioned Indiana Jones (double the grumpy dad energy) and Nico Robin (because of course). I saw the Sam Carter suggestion, and honestly she'd probably fit as well or better here than in military, with the option of taking a more combative role when necessary later. I do think that for this purpose she'd be best bundled with Daniel: even if his focus was on Earth history, he's still highly intelligent and experienced, and just as importantly, he has the mechanical understanding and experience in archaeology and linguistics that Sam lacks. Another option is Dr. Chelli Lona Aphra from Star Wars. While I'm not personally familiar with her (she's modern canon and thus after my time), I know that she's an archaeologist and adventurer, she's _not_ Force sensitive, she worked for Vader for a while, and she has additional skills in droid mechanics and programming. A couple less likely plugs for Raine Sage (Tales of Symphonia) and Rupert Giles (BtVS), given that both are magic users. While their magic isn't directly relevant to their abilities as archaeologists, it would still require some additional effort rewriting to remove it. Of the two, I think Raine would be better suited, especially as she was able to understand and use advanced technology despite mostly growing up in a medieval to early industrial society, but she'd require more backstory adjustment. Meanwhile Giles would be fairly straightforward backstory-wise, but he's more of a historian and rather tech-phobic, so not the best pick here. Finally, returning to the Warren Ellis well yet again, I'll pitch Elijah Snow from Planetary. He's an unageing, Sherlock Holmes-trained investigator, with AOE thermal subtraction powers and the better part of a century's experience in forming, leading, and operating an organization dedicated to discovering and preserving Earth's secret history. He'd probably be on the pricy side, and a lot of people probably never heard of him, but he's incredibly qualified for this purpose (and he'd also bring extra grumpy dad energy). Unfortunately, even more than Dr. Aphra who at least has an extensive Wookiepedia page, the loss of readcomicsonline will make research/familiarization much harder, but I've always gotta toss out an oddball favorite or two.

Imiss T’moai and Seyyx T’moai Imiss Seyyx I miss sex this intentional. or just a funny coincidence?

Love to see a new chapter! For archeologists, maybe Nico Robin? She's smart, has a cool power, and is absolutely gorgeous. Plus her dry humor could be a lot of fun!

Novus's Fanfiction Works

I mentioned it in the author's notes, but they were the result of Random Asari Name Generator. It was funny enough that I kept the names.

Novus's Fanfiction Works

Thanks for the edit! And for the character ideas, though I admit I don't think I recognzie any of them other than Sam Carter and Rupert Giles *sweatdrops*

Novus's Fanfiction Works

The Honorverse is probably my favorite hard sci-fi series :-). As for having her as a military commander...I think she'd probably be a little bit too straight laced for the Terminus project in particular. From that series, Lester Tourvill would probably be the better fit. But he'd have even more trouble winning due to lack of boobs :-p. Bruce proved it was POSSIBLE to overcome the Horny, but I don't know how likely it is for a less well known character ;-).

twilightwanderer

To be fair, they're rather specific. Aphra's probably the most mainstream, and that's still largely or solely restricted to the post-Disney Marvel Star Wars comics; I only know about her because of my lingering connection to my first major fandom. If you're not a big fan of the Tales series or didn't play a lot of JRPGs in the mid-00s, I'm not surprised you've never heard of Raine. Similarly, if you weren't reading a lot of comics (especially indy/third-party comics) in the early-00s or otherwise a big comic person, not recognizing Warren Ellis , let alone Planetary, isn't surprising (especially with Ellis' fall from grace around 2020). Or you can be like me, I only had maybe half a dozen games for my Gamecube growing up, but one of them was Tales of Symphonia, bought entirely on the strength of some screenshot graphics in a friend's copy of Nintendo Power, which I subsequently fell in love with. Meanwhile, most of my comic reading was as a kid and teen of whatever I could find at my local libraries, among which was the first TPB of Planetary, and which I again fell in love with. (interestingly in retrospect, both are rather meta in different ways: Symphonia deconstructs the Self-Sacrificing Hero while reconstructing the Idealistic Hero, while Planetary is a conscious investigation/homage of 20th century genre media)

Matthew Robar

I’d have to argue against Nathan drake, it’s been a few years but I’m pretty sure he’d be the least prepared of the famous three archaeologists (Indiana jones jnr., Lara Croft, Nathan drake). Nathan drake’s stories don’t have much of a supernatural bent to them, meaning he’s basically a normal archaeologist beyond the adventure aspects I’d personally recommend maybe doing somebody from assassins creed, probably Desmond miles they have the most spooky sci-fi experience, as well as having tons of personal combat experience

Imiss T'moai should get a vacation to Easter Island as a bonus so she can see those Moai she misses.

In no particular order: -Indy (obligatory) -Daniel Jackson + another SG-1 member -Yuuno Scrya (From Nanoha) -Barbara Ann Minerva (aka Cheetah from DC) I'm sure there's a non-villain version out there somewhere. High Silliness: -Rick O'Connell (90's The Mummy movies) -Benjamin Gates (National Treasure) -Scrooge McDuck

Is our Kara’s heart starting to go.. Doki Doki for our Asari? Ha! I couldn’t contain my snort typing that! 🤣 Moving on…Plan B Pragmatic and logical, similar to what Liara did in ME3. Let’s hope it’s not necessary. But even with over a decade of time to prepare…this is still going to be grinding to do. If our resident reaper was taken out of the equation and if all the Gov’s and Citadel Council could pull their heads out of their asses and work together… But it didn’t happen in Me series canon until it was FAR too late and even then it wasn’t all that good, in my humble opinion. Politics getting in the fucking way even when complete extinction was literally in their faces… Rooting for our Asari and her crew all the way. And the canon others once they eventually join the stage. But enough of that for now, here you are… Edit 1: …looking at “how”… …looking at “now”… Edit 2: …”to” many other…” …”too” many other…” Edit 3: …she “squeeze” in… …she “squeezed” in… Edit 4: …”Protean” space or former “protean” worlds… …”Prothean” space or former “prothean” worlds… Edit 5: “Inderstandable”, really… “Understandable”, really…

Novus's Fanfiction Works

A bit more similar to what the Protheans tried, though in the same vein. Something Rylia is hoping for is to find data repositories like Liara made, from other species that were harvested, possibly giving them more information/options on the threat. As always, thanks for the edits!

Mazerii

Captain Picard from Star Trek TNG is an 'amateur' archaeologist. Daniel Jackson from Stargate is a professional battle archaeologist. Eno Cordova is a Jedi master Archeologist. Any of these would be a good choice.

For someone who wanders around in a starship looking for dead life and dead civilizations, you want Jean Luc Picard. Accept no substitutes.
