Ta da! The latest in this year's Displaced Hero fashion! Or at least, the latest release! Can I just tell you how sad and disappointed I was that I couldn't find any decent artwork of Kashyyyk for this post? Why is no artist brave enough to draw the Best Planet in Star Wars?! I mean, you know, aside from it likely being suppppperrrr difficult to do justice to...

...

...

Anyway! Despite the lack of art for Kashyyyk, this set of chapters covers the Summit between the League of Free Stars and the Galactic Republic. A bit of a break from the fighting for some politics to wrap up the Kashyyyk arc, as it were. After this we'll shift into a longer Clone Wars arc that will mix battles, politics and personal moments as best I can manage, starting to push through the Clone Wars a bit faster as we accelerate towards the end of the story.

Not that we are super close just yet. I'm fully expecting the story to go through at least the end of the year (80,000 more words) and possibly farther. Though I'm hoping to wrap up by February, if possible. Which doesn't necessarily mean the end of Star Wars fics as a whole. I have ideas jotted down for fics ranging from your almost stereotypical Jedi insert pre-clone wars, to an Empire/Rebellion Era fic, to multiple Kotor/Swtor era fic ideas. My policy of not writing more than one fic in any given setting at a time is the only reason we haven't seen more SW works, though I might start feeding one or two as teasers to gauge interest nearer to the time Displaced Hero finishes.

Anyway, for now, enjoy more of Can One Displaced Hero Save the Galaxy?! As usual, the new chapters are attached in various formats to this post. Since this is the final August update for the story, I will also be updating the Master Files in the Pinned Post as well. Also per the usual pattern, Author's Notes for these chapters will be in the comments!

Chapter 151: A/N 1: As I mentioned before, despite the Battle of Kashyyk being a firm victory, they didn't come out unscathed against a significantly larger fleet. I'm not going to harp on about loses too often, but I felt the need to go over it at least in passing detail at least once, to show that the war IS costing the League, despite them coming out ahead in their battles so far. Not nearly as bad as their ground loses on Geonosis, but possibly more costly in absolute material terms due to Capital Ships being seriously expensive, even for the League who can make such ships cheaper than the CIS or Republic. A/N 2: Ah, poor Ahsoka. I don't know how much we'll see of her, but I did want to show her initial shock at discovery of her new Master's relationships. I kinda DO want to show her and Zavra interacting more directly at some point, since it should be explosive and entertaining, but it will depend on finding a could place to fit that in. The Mashed Potato Rotary Canon we got a background snippet about will have to do for now :-p.

Novus's Fanfiction Works

Chapter 152: A/N 1: So, my biggest goal for the Summit was to show that the League isn't Inherently on the same page as the Republic. Even Izuku isn't, as he doesn't really LIKE the Republic. He just understands that the Sith are dangerous. Even he doesn't have TOTAL control over the League, by his own design, so there has to be something genuinely 'in it' for the League to pay the cost in money and lives to help with the war. A/N 2: I also wanted to show that the League isn't ENTIRELY in the right. With the Republic having it's own points about the League not exactly being completely innocent of stomping on Republic Sovereignty, in some ways. The price of your head honcho being more Hero than politician, and encouraging his people to stick their noses in places they maybe don't quite have the right to.

I would absolutely love the idea of more SW fics especially the crossovers! One thing to potentially keep in mind you could always pick up the story half a century later for the Yuuzhan Vong war

Novus's Fanfiction Works

Absolutely not. I LOATHE the Vong story line to the very depths of my soul. I would sooner write something in Disney Sequels (ew, ew, ew, ewwwww) than write anything to do with the dumpster fire of terrible writing that is the Vong nonsense.

Jared Andrade

Darn I've never seen that series done well, even the original. You're basically one of the few people that I believe could turn it around. Oh well if not vong please choose kotr as your next sw fic!

Novus's Fanfiction Works

I have a couple of idea for Kotor fics :-p. The main issue is that I and cannon are generally not on speaking terms and Kotor is fairly linear. I think I could probably suitably break it to my satisfaction, though it would likely be much shorter than Displaced Hero. The two main ideas I have are to either inject an insert into Bastila, rather than Revan as typically happens. Or else inject a crossover character onto Taris that throws everything off rails.

Jared Andrade

I would choose the option that goes of the rails, its your biggest strength. Also the best part of star wars is the universe itself and people playing around with it

Novus's Fanfiction Works

Oh, both would absolutely go off the rails. Just differently. I generally don't write anything that doesn't :-p.

Please do a swtor fic, it’s really hard to find a good fics there

Have you ever found, or considered, a Pre-KotOR fic set during the Mandalorian war? My understanding from KotOR is that "Revan" isn't the characters actual name, and that all records of who they were prior to returning as a Sith were completely deleted. Had several ideas (not enough to really string them together to make a prompt or anything) about how a fic set then could be an interesting story. Perhaps an insert/OC (one only vaguely familiar with the Pre-KotOR lore) that decides to lead the fight against the Mandalorians and thinks things are fine because there is no one in the jedi order named Revan or Malak so "this must be an AU". Only after they defeat the mandalorians the insert and their apprentice go on to find the hidden sith empire, get corrupted/fall/controlled by the emperor. And it ends in the moment of where "revan" sees malak firing on their flagship and that's what breaks them out of the Sith's control- just long enough for the "oh shit" realization that they'd become Revan/had always been the one who would become Revan (and thus that they're soon going to be subjected to the Death of Personality as the lead-in to the start of KotOR). With how large-scale war heavy this fic has gotten, I really don't see you jumping directly into a similar fic of a pre-revan Jedi leading the Republic to fight the Mandalorians as your next fic. That said, the large scale nature of warfare, fleet movements, territory gains, etc that you have put into this fic, well you most likely could do a pre-KotOR fic/mandalorian War fic well.

Keht Jelicho

How much of the legends lore post Empire, and Pre-Vong are you familiar with? Imperial Remnant, New Republic, New Jedi Order, Luke/Mara Jade, all the Solo kids, etc etc. I haven't found many fics set in that period, post original trilogy, and ignoring all the Disney Nucanon both for the rebellion/resistance/andor/mandalorian/etc stuff AND that also scraps the Vong as well. The best I have found have been fics that simply brush aside or turn the Vong into non-issues because the MC/their group are that powerful and/or prepared. A fic that so no to both Vong and Disney, but is exploring post-Empire would be one I would be interested in.

Novus's Fanfiction Works

I've read virtually all the books from the Han Solo Trilogy through Vector Prime. Including the Young Jedi Knights series. Most of them multiple times. To be honest, though, I'm not sure I'd want to mess with attempting to fix the New Republic without starting in the Rebellion era. The entire structure of the New Republic was poorly put together, basically trying to revive the Old Republic era Government which had already proven a horrible design.

Novus's Fanfiction Works

I can't say I've ever considered trying to right in that specific era. Mostly because of how little we know about it. While I do heavily divert from canon pretty much always, if I'm not writing straight up original fiction I prefer to have a decent bit of detail to work from, mostly so that I'm not just pouring tons of OCs and such down readers throats. That's generally a fast way to lose everyone's interest. You are also correct that I honestly wouldn't be eager to jump into another major military operations fic after this one. Doubly so since eventually Stripper With a System is doing to head that direction by necessity. If/when I do another Star Wars fic, I'll probably try to keep it focused more on the small scale efforts, like Displaced Hero started out as. I don't regret going the route I have, but it's a lot of effort that I wouldn't be eager to repeat immediately within the same setting.

Novus's Fanfiction Works

My primary concern about that is popularity, to be honest. A lot of people are familiar with the Prequel and Original Series eras...a lot less are familiar with the Kotor/Swtor era, and likely less with Swtor than Kotor. I fear it might struggle to win in polls and such. Though finding that out one way or another via a 10,000 word test story or some such might be something I attempt. Putting it up against a similar story or stories from other eras.

Keht Jelicho

What if you came at it from an insert/OC among the Imperial Remnant side of things in the immediate aftermath of the second Death Star's destruction and Emperor's Death? A kind of "yes the empire was corrupt/wrong, but so was the old republic, why would try to go back to that either" vibe. Disrupt the forming of the new republic by creating an alternative that constantly points out the flaws of the "new republic" Maybe bring back some of the CIS anti-republic rhetoric (there were some legitimate issues they raised)? Idk, just one idea for how to do a fic in the post-empire time period without having to start in the rebellion

Keht Jelicho

Oh! What about a Firefly-type story set during the Galactic Empire? A ship of Smugglers, small time criminals, and former Republic (or both republic and separatist) officers that have no interest in joining the various rebel cells (pre-"Rebel Alliance" time period? When they weren't yet all unifying after Alderan?) Though they do occasionally deliver to the cells?

Aeden Emrys

Thanks for another excellent update of chapters! I look forward to seeing how this greatly interesting story of yours will develop!

Novus's Fanfiction Works

Eh. The only way I can see doing that is as a sort of slice-of-life. Which isn't something I've tried before. It's actually sort of one of the issues with a few settings like Star Wars, where it's quite hard to meaningfully 'fix' the setting without going large scale. It can be done somewhat, depending on the era, by having a small group do surgical changes. A meta-aware Jedi during the prequel era, for example, can take steps to expose or remove Palaptine...or if it's pre 32 BBy, the VERY FIRST THING YOU DO, when you get a chance, is free Anakin and Shmi and take them to Corellia. Throw Anakin at the Green Jedi and you fix a looooottttt of problems.

Novus's Fanfiction Works

That would be diving right back into the large scale operations :-p. I've actually seen a couple of fics try essentially that prompt. I believe there's one that was still active, last I checked, called Arrow Command?

Keht Jelicho

Eh, who says it has to be a fix-it fic? And was thinking of it more as an episodic format than slice of life. A chapter or two per "episode", maybe three or four chapters for a "two-part episode" at most. Specifically because that format is about as far from the "major military operations" scenario as I could think of. Though, if you are ok with heavy OC/original story within the Star Wars setting then other shows could serve as an inspiration too. Might be cool to have a Sci-fi version of Leverage set in Star Wars for one example. Or have a story set on a Military Hospital Ship loosely based on MASH. Or a Star Wars A-Team story? No meta-fix-it aspect, at least not by the characters themselves even if you write them ending up changing things simply because they exist. But yes, a story where Anakin gets taken to the Green Jedi would be interesting (so if you do that I would read it, though I would think you'd be wanting to write something other than another Prequel-era fic), especially if Obi-wan leaves the coruscant jedi and joins the corellian jedi in order to be able to teach Anakin/the High Council didn't change their mind- particularly if that also leads to Obi-wan getting married too.

Keht Jelicho

Eh, was thinking more on the political side/kingdom building focus rather than military operations focus, but I can see what you mean. Will have to look for arrow command

Novus's Fanfiction Works

*shrug* Fix-it style fics are...pretty much what I write. With the exception of A Very Confused Pokemon Adventure, I think all of my current stories qualify.

Keht Jelicho

Huh, I know that No Truck is currently in a "fix gotham" focus but with the amalgam world I didn't really see it as a fix-it fic. Gotham just doesn't seem like a major part of the setting so much as a tutorial/training wheels/proving grounds. And the world itself is varied enough to not really seem like there is some singular big crisis/plot that *Needs* fixing. You've also hinted that Night city might not be a fixable problem for V/Misfit (let alone the rest of that world) and that you may have them move onwards (which in writing this at this moment for some reason made me think of the fics with Ciri from Witcher-verse world hopping to escape the Wild Hunt) to other worlds after a while spent getting their feet under them. Halfway Broken definitely falls into the fix-it fic genre, as does Stripper, but Displaced Hero seems more crossover-AU. Most fix-it fics, for me, involve meta-aware characters- be that SI or OCs with plot knowledge or be it internal/in-universe meta-knowledge via time travel/loop. Thats why Displaced Hero is borderline, and why No Truck is hard to truly place. Displaced is for the most part all internally consistent in only having in-universe knowledge. No Truck's mashed together Amalgam of sources almost entirely negates most meta-knowledge. Thats my perspective on fix-it fics at least. And Star Wars itself is story about "fixing" the galaxy, and that is a big prospect, and almost invariably one that requires/relies on big military operations if you try to engage on that scale of things. And any insert/meta-aware character is almost required to make an attempt to change things at that scale. Thats why I suggested other possibilities so you could get away from the massive military operations aspects you mentioned wanting to get away from. Any story in star wars that gets even close to trying to "fix" the setting is one that seems to invariably get pulled into massive warfare plotlines. But if you avoid the big picture/trying to fix the setting, then you need something else to focus on instead of the big picture issues. Which could be a slice of life fic about a crew of smugglers and small time criminals trying to get by in the outer rim, or a group of psuedo-"robin hood" criminals/anti-heroes going after corrupt imperials, or any number of other options. Basically to avoid the military operations aspect in the next Star Wars fic would pretty much require avoiding the Plot of the various Star Wars canon stories, and instead just using the setting/lore of the galaxy to create the backdrop for your own story.

Novus's Fanfiction Works

Ah, sorry, I was using a broader definition of 'fix-it.' Half the time what I'm focused on 'fixing' is the number of people that had to carry the idiot ball for a plot to make sense. Admittedly, Why Was There No Truck!? only sort of qualifies, even then. It does in the current section of the story as I'm 'fixing' Gotham. The only reason Gotham remains the screwed up place it is, is for narrative convenience for the Batman authors. Actually fixing things would mean they'd need to write something other than the same tired formula all the time, which they don't want since that formula sells. Even later on, though, Alyssa's goal is to essentially perform an uplift on humanity in general, to 'fix' the common issues of super hero settings by developing into a world that isn't constantly on the brink of destruction due to having things mostly under control.
