Dynamic Grass

Hey everyone!

Grass now reacts as you drive through it.

Take a shortcut through a field, pull a trailer off the road, or slide wide into the grass, and you’ll leave a visible trail behind. Tires flatten the grass along their path, while low bodywork pushes it down beneath the vehicle.

Once you’ve passed, the grass rises back partway. It won’t completely regrow over your tracks—they stay visible until you reload the level.

What’s Included

Tire tracks through grass, with footprints based on tire width.

Underbody deformation, taking the vehicle’s ground clearance into account.

Partial recovery after the tires and body move away.

Support for multiple vehicles and trailers, so more than just your current vehicle can leave tracks.

Rollover contact, allowing the sides and roof to flatten grass when they meet the ground.

Tracks that follow your movement, including reversing and sliding.

Automatic activation on maps with supported grass groundcover.

Whether you’re working off-road, exploring, or trying to get a stranded vehicle back to the pavement, you can see where you’ve been.

What It Changes

Dynamic Grass is a visual effect for grass groundcover. It doesn’t reshape the terrain, change driving grip, or deform trees, bushes, and other mesh vegetation or objects.

The grass partially recovers after contact, but the remaining tracks persist for the rest of that level session. Reloading the level gives you a fresh start.

Installation

Install one copy of rls_dynamic_grass.zip in your mods folder. Leave it zipped.

Launch BeamNG and follow the setup prompt.

Fully exit BeamNG, then start it again to finish setup.

DX12 and Vulkan each need their own initial setup. If you switch renderers, follow the setup prompt for that renderer and restart the game afterward.

Thanks for supporting the work. We’re looking forward to seeing the trails you leave behind—and how far off the road you went to make them.
