Also worth mentioning that monster demystification creep was already made inevitable by the decision to name a zombie with Audrey II for a head after an infinitely more frightening and interesting 18-foot tall double-headed lizard baboon with tentacle arms that can also cast spells and warp reality around it and drive you mad by looking at it.

The one thing I genuinely give season 4 credit for, Eleven not forgiving Papa. Because the "forgive the abusive parent" trope in so much media is such a shit trope.
