Our TIFF recap is up and if you can believe it, despite a 2.5+hr runtime, we didn't even get to everything we saw! What are your thoughts and lingering questions about the films at the festival? And an extra special shoutout to all the Garys who said hello during the festival -- you truly are all the best and kindest!

With all the talk of fandom(s) propelling the success of The Life of Chuck at the fest, I am DEEPLY disappointed that the word “Flandom” was never uttered. Do better.

James Sykora

My prediction, just from hearing it described, is I can easily see Hard Truths being my favorite film of the year.

Kara Hogan

Always my fave THOB ep of the year! Is this where I mention that you guys inspired my friends and me to go to TIFF 2023 and we were at the same HIS THREE DAUGHTERS screening but were too shy to say hello? Couldn’t make it work to go this year, but attending NYFF in a few weeks so excited to hear you two talk about films I’ll be seeing there!

Rob

Can someone please confirm the Fantasy League name for Garys? In the episode Chris says it’s “The Garyators” but then says “Garyators” so I’m now completely unsure whether to write it as: (a) The Garyators (space) (b) TheGaryators (no space) (c) Garyators Thank you! 👍

Chris and Joe: “Who’s won a 2nd Oscar recently?” Emma Stone: *launches her headphones across the room* Whoever said the past year’s Oscars are the hardest to remember was absolutely correct.

Was great to chat with you in the Cloud lineup, Chris! Thank you for giving me the scoop on "The Disaster." The film of the festival I'm feeling most out on an island about so far is Queer. I walked out of it going "oh A24 is going to give this a HUGE awards push," an opinion nobody else seems to share? My read was that yes, it's strange, but strikes the balance of being only strange enough to let the academy think they're being smarter than they really are for rallying behind it, when in fact it contains a lot of the trappings of a conventional oscar-bait movie deep down. Plus the "will Luca have a Soderbergh year" narrative alongside Challengers could draw an outsized amount of business to it. Only time will tell I guess, but I was surprised almost no one else came out of that screening ready to declare it a lock for nominations! Also, curious what both of your experiences were with the new arrival of the Varda clapping appearing to overtake the dwindling "arrgh's" this year? Seems like a new era of preroll bits may be upon us!

Riley

Every review I've seen that compares Queer to Suspiria only makes me grow stronger I'm so ready to defend this movie

Carson Shofner

What do we call Mike Flanagan’s fans? Flanafans? Fanagans? Love the episode though. Always love you talking about the festivals you attend and their potential Oscar Buzz. Gets me excited for what is yet to come!

Molly Fromkin

Not a Ransom of Red Chief joke!!! Joe RULES

Faith Hicks

I have seen zero of these movies & have never been to TIFF (even tho I grew up in the greater Toronto area), but I always get such a kick out of your report on the festival.

Marie

Isn’t Laszlo Toth the guy who vandalized the pieta? (I won’t google this)

Carly

Are the UK & US doing a cultural exchange with the Robbie and SNL movies?

Bobby Scanlon Jr.

Hearing talk of Robbie Williams & Nicole Kidman on the same podcast has me recalling their ‘01 cover of “Something Stupid”.

German Munoz

Absolutely love your TIFF episode! A highlight for me every year now. Please don't worry about making it too long! ❤️

Emily Sabo

Loved the episode and have a whole list of movies to keep my eyes peeled for!

Chris Sullivan

This whole episode just made me jealous that you guys have seen all these amazing films and I have to wait! 😭

Seth

Shoulda listened to this before I locked my Vulture ballot!
