Jim Carrey’s best roles are enternal sunshine, the mask and the first few seasons of in living color and that 1996 snl ride the snake sketch

Michelle Brosius

Oh, Joe, you must watch Amadeus tout de suite. The story flows so well - not a sloggy costume movie at all! And it's very funny.

I’ve always wondered why the whole “Jim Carey is a serious leading man” thing never took off. I always assumed that it wasn’t what he really wanted and him not getting the nom for Eternal Sunshine made him stop trying at it.

Yes please, Wine Show shoutout! Wine Movie post haste!

Definitely gonna re-watch the Courtney and Madonna video to fully appreciate its awkward/epicness

Angie Seibold

Like you, I vividly remember the Madonna-Courtney exchange from the ‘95 VMAs. My favorite part was when Courtney said she had to go because her crush on Kurt Loder was “consuming” her. “I have to leave before I jump on your head.”

Taylor Cole

Ok time to drop those top 5 REM songs lists, everyone! 5) Imitation of Life 4) Sitting Still 3) Near Wild Heaven 2) Carnival of Sorts (Boxcars) 1) Try Not To Breathe

Carly

💜 the Courtney appreciation (Madonna lost but she looked *so* beautiful)

Can someone remind me of the Gary team name for the movie fantasy league?

Terrific episode. The Mask absolutely holds up. It's always been a favorite of mine. Also idk who said it or if it was in a review but I remember the annoyance at letterman not bothering to look like in the 80s whereas Lorne made the effort to dress like he did while being barefoot eating Chinese.

There were a few Carrey omissions that are semi important. His Showtime dramedy Kidding, 30 Rock's Leap Dave Williams, Simon Birch being his first crack at drama. Also as a parent I can tell you Sonic is still huge. And dick and Jane yes man and Bruce almighty made BANK.

“Chappell Roan will be mad at you for going to hug Judd Hirsch.” ☠️

Hey Joe. Thanks for the heads up on the Nora Ephron doc on screen drafts. Totally cried and just reordered all her books for my bookstore. Can’t believe I missed it!

I'm going to out-Prissy Gay Child Joe by reporting that I HAAAAAAAAAAAAATED all Jim Carrey's and Adam Sandler's comedy in the 90s. Even when I was the target audience, stupidity-as-comedy and fart jokes were just never my thing. I was a sophisticated gay child who laughed at British comedies where people fell down or called their cat their "pussy" to hilarious effect. Guess I was just better than y'all. I'm totally with Joe on thinking Andy Kaufman-esque humor just makes me annoyed and feel sorry for the people who have to put up with it. I just don't get what's funny about being an overbearing asshole who bulldozes people. I've always thought there was something very hetero male about it and why Trump is a thing.

The Jackie Jormp-Jomp namedrop 🤣🤣🤣

The second Ace Ventura movie was one of only 2 movies I ever saw with my dad that he actively hated, and we went to the movies A LOT (the other one was Clifford.) He was very easy to please as a moviegoer, and that piece of garbage couldn’t manage it.

Brandon Skidmore

Yall why did I think this movie was about an astronaut

Kevin Breslin

Shouldn’t Danny Devito be considered as a prime candidate for the SAG Lifetime Achievement Award or an honorary Academy Award?

I don't have favorite episodes but if I did, this would be it. Strong memories of seeing it in 1999 (immediately after seeing MAGNOLIA because I would do that sort of thing back then). Felt the same way: why watch this when I could watch a doc about Kaufman? I didn't expect the extra helping of love for AMADEUS (you really do need to see this, Joe, and it's not 4 hours long), REM, and Springsteen. This was a bigger joy than I had any reason to expect, and I'm a fan. "There are a lot of channels. Not anymore, bitch." is the best exchange ever and the Criterion 24/7 is the best app feature in the history of apps.

And watch TUCKER, Joe. It's great. I saw it in theaters then brought it home on video to watch with my parents, thinking it would be good family watching. And it lead to a public argument with them that caused me to stop sharing anything with them. Great movie!!
