Who's excited for a new Wes Anderson? Who's excited to argue over this divisive movie?

Yay! I only saw this again last week! The Timmy/Frances section is best. Also Tilda voiced the sexy octopus in The Boys, probably not her most known-for role.

Love this movie, hate that the score for this movie ended up turning into the soundtrack for that TikTok trend where suddenly everybody thought they could make their own Wes Anderson movies without understanding why he’s great.

The last fun thing that happened on (Black) Twitter was the Black people avengers in Alabama in 2023

imo the more time that passes the crazier it is that the academy totally snubbed asteroid city, and i didn’t really care for/connect with anderson’s last few films…

I guess six years ago isn't recent anymore, but a good recent-ish Waltz performance is in of all things Alita: Battle Angel, where he plays against type as a kindly father figure.

“Nobody knew what the original Nightmare Alley was.” - Joe Reid The original with Tyrone Powers is great and soooo much better than Del Toro’s version.

"The Adrien Brody of it though...it's so funny...cause obviously he just won a second Oscar... he's just finishing up his speech right now" -- I had to pause the podcast to laugh. Perfect joke. No notes.

Waltz needs better career advisors. I am excited for Frankenstein though

Patiently waiting for your I CARE A LOT episode

I need to watch this again... saw it in original run in theater and I didn't fully connect with it. I recently rewatched Grand Budapest Hotel and it holds up very well, darker than what I remember. And again, Adrian Brody found his niche here. Forget Ralph Fiennes for Conclave, he should have won an award for GBH.

I thought Kieran Culkin and Emma Stone broke up before Movie 43, and yes they met on Paper Man (doesn’t exist) and dated from 2009-2011

Thank you, Chris, for giving me some "grown man who never learned how to ride a bike" representation. Speaking of bad teachers, though this wasn't one of those teachers gay guys stan anyway, but I had a calculus teacher who was so homophobic he refused to eat pink Starburst. He was so toxic masculinitied that he deprived himself of one of the world's greatest pleasures. That might have been the first time I felt sorry for a homophobe and not just afraid/angry.

Payne and Taylor also won a Golden Globe for About Schmidt.

speaking of Tulip Fever, any chance of restoring that ep to streaming platforms? I can only access episode 66 forward

Richard Ayoade is not new to working with Wes Anderson; he was in two of the Roald Dahl shorts for Netflix. I am excited to see him and Riz Ahmed in The Phoenician Scheme, though.

Great episode but feel compelled to add that Griffin Dunne is Joan Didion and Gregory Dunne’s nephew, his dad was Dominick Dunne

Sam Hetherington

Tilda Swinton should have her own version of the Jeremy Renner app

There was a passing mention of ‘Broken Flowers’ apropos of the marvelous (truly one of my favorite actors working today), Jeffrey Wright with the Bill Murray of it all which sent me spiraling down memory lane about seeing that movie with my brother in an arthouse in Montclair, NJ (I even recall eating a turkey burger at a diner first - don’t ask me what I had for lunch yesterday 🤷🏻‍♀️) that sent me further spiraling down memory lane to a song from the soundtrack that I instantly fell in love with, ‘There is an End’, by the (now dormant if not defunct) Greenhornes feat. Holly GoLightly, which sent me back to a stunning version I only recently discovered which was recorded in fairly quick succession by the late, great Ronnie Spector feat. Patti Smith. I don’t know if I’m in the mood for the maximalism of Wes Anderson right now, but I think I could do with the minimalism of Jim Jarmusch, and may revisit ‘Broken Flowers’ tonight. Thanks guys! 😂

Minor note: Griffin Dunne is the nephew of Joan Didion and John Gregory Dunne; son of Dominick Dunne, brother of the late Dominique Dunne (‘Poltergeist’).

Not about this episode, but a week or two ago on the Threedom podcast they played the IMDB game and Lauren Lapkus mentioned that if you have an IMDB pro account you can change your top 4 known fors... Which calls into question the whole game! Did the entire cast of Gosford Park get pro accounts to put it on their known for?

Omg PLEASE do an excursions episode on Cyrano…I’m probably the only person in the world who saw it twice in theaters lol. Peter Dinklage is so good in it!

Joe Reid

So many corrections in this thread!
