The second and final round of member submission reviews are done! It was just a pleasure looking at the effort you guys have put into your art and how they all turned out. And I was very glad that my work and the video series made a difference in how you could approach the painting process for the better (even if just a little)!

Thank you once again for your very kind support, and you can still ask any specific questions below if you feel I've missed anything!

Helloo! Thank you for reviewing my work, I knew that something was wrong with the light & I see it more clearly now, I would love if you would revisit this piece that I took inspiration from, I still really like it :)

Eddy (EW)

thank you so much for this elaborate review! and also thank very much for sharing your knowledge and experience! 🙏 In fact, after this series, I started to also use artistic references instead of IRL photos!

Hello Guweiz, thank you for reviewing my work (I'm Fog). Your feedback helped me a lot about lighting and composition, it gave me some ideas and things to think about for my future works. Also I managed to finish that submission piece. I think I did a decent job rendering the final piece but it still ended up looking kinda flat. After watching your feedback and seeing the changes you made to my draft, I think the main issue with my work was that I failed to properly separate the contrast/values between the light and dark areas. There was no clear separation between the light and dark areas so it made the image looking very flat, which I think was also the main reason why my eyes didn't feel drawn to any particular area.

Thank you so much for participating this time too! :) I'm looking forward to seeing your progress next time!

guweiz

You're very welcome! Sometimes it just takes a tiny bit of suggestion to discover many different things to change, I feel the same too :) I'll try to revisit it somehow, when I find that special "X" factor for that piece!

guweiz

You're welcome! I think it's good practice to use both - sometimes photos can provide a kind of accuracy and "purity" of reference that stylistic references cannot, so do be careful on that :)

guweiz

You're welcome, it's always a pleasure and honor to have a chance to give critique or suggestions for someone's hard work and effort! I think lighting is the kind of thing that sometimes require a bit of teeth gritting. Starting with a more "extreme" setup that has very clear contrast can be preferable if you find it hard to get to once you already have a softer setup - you can always tone things down or blend them a bit more as you progess :)!

Magnus

I won’t disappoint

Thank you so much. I had to work so much that take a long period before I could come here to see the tips for my drawing. I really apreciated and already implemented those in my drawings. As always, Guweiz, love your work and can stress enough your importance for my art. Lets continue learning and improving. If I had just one question it would be: how to know when, or how to study when to put a light that is more intense or more dull? How can I identify that? It is one of my current studies, but I feel that I lack something to really understand the way to study and learn when to choose the right light for the right moment.
