JASON

Thats what she said 😂🤣

Guys, not sure how someone can mistake Caraxes :D he's pretty unique with the long neck and all.. but that was Laenor riding his dragon, Seasmoke.. only Targareyns can ride dragons, and Laenor is half (from his mother). Also, you can't ride another's dragon.. it's a no no. Great reaction overall :)

Demanda

There are still multiple godswoods. Sansa visits the one in King’s Landing in the original series, and there’s at least one more outside the north off the top of my head.

TT

To be fair I think they forgot how many dragons there are (it was mentioned at start of episode 1) and didn't realize that Laenor is a half Targaryen as a son of Rhaenys Targaryen and Corlys Velaryon, so it wouldn't be too surprising that he is a dragonrider with his own dragon. Caraxes was not there because I suppose it would be too risky (or impossible?) to leave a plan like this to a dragon flying solo, so it was Laenor with Seasmoke instead.

I'm not one of the people who thinks the dragons in HoTD look significantly better than they did in GoT but I really really like how each dragon has their own unique sounds, it helps to identify them :) I like Syrax sounds a lot

Demanda

I think the show purposely doesn’t mention Seasmoke specifically so Laenor’s arrival here would be a surprise. So don’t be too hard on the guys for not knowing he’s a dragon rider. 😂 But yes, don’t forget that Laenor is half Targaryen ;)

TT

I loved the dragon designs in GoT and I love them in the HotD too, it's one of the things that both shows got very right and I like how they managed to make each one of them different (especially in HotD) and unique in so many different ways!

tiramisujen ≽^•⩊•^≼

Tyland and Jason Lannister are played by Jefferson Hall who played Ser Hugh of The Vale in season 1 of Game of Thrones :)

Demanda

That’s why I’m confused 😂

Jodycnd

Crab-ulous

tiramisujen ≽^•⩊•^≼

I think it's why they chose to give Rhaenys the Targaryen blonde hair instead of the black hair she has in Fire & Blood, makes it a bit more obvious that she would have the dragon-riding blood

TithenielUtiradiel

Nobody can ride someone else dragon! The one riding was Laenor, his mom is Rhaenys Targaryen, and he has his own dragon Seasmoke. You will need to pay attention to the color and th design of the dragons XD. Caraxes is very snake like and red, the one in the battle was blueish? Don't forget know we have more dragons that before! Guys even without being in the Kingsguards Cole is NOT an option. He is the son of the steward of the Dondarion family. Rhaenyra "can choose" but she is still expected to chose among high born families. This IS how a royal hunt should be. Maybe not as elaborate as the prine second birhtday, but along this lines. So everytime the king goes for hunting he takes half the court, and people that do the actual hunting for him while he drinks and parties. George R R Martin hated how the hunt was shown in Game of Thrones because it is nothing like it should be, but low budget so we didn't get this before. There are more godswoods than just in winterfell. A godswood is basically a garden with a weirdwood tree inside a family keep meant for prayer and reflection. Winterfell has one of the largest, but the Red keep also has one. Sansa often wen there to "pray", because it was the only place where they left her alone. You didn't seem to notice but I will point it out as a kind of important detail. When Alicent goes to talk to Viserys at night, you can see him holding his cup and he is missing two fingers, the one he injured last episode and a second one. Up until this point you see the king with gloves and his five fingers, so their are covering that up. And yes Viserion as it stands now, leaving Rhaenyra a complete problem to deal with when he dies. The guy you mentioned with the creepy smile is the older son of Lord Strong, the one the kings ask about in their chat. The person you saw talking to Otto Hightower at the beginning is his older brother the head of the Hightower family. He is basically also pressuring Otto to have Aegon be the heir, not that Otto needs any pressuring on that regard Don't forget that people pay attention to symbolism here. What do you think could it mean to the king that they did not found the white heart? What would anyone think if they knew Rhaenyra found one? Still love all you theories. I love how sometime you nail it, and then sometimes you are almost there only to take a hard left and end up somewhere crazy! And the best of them all the rabbit holes! I think you might have misheard the Joffrey Velaryon thing fyi

tiramisujen ≽^•⩊•^≼

I remember during GoT you guys talking about the episode titled "First of His Name" which was the coronation of Tommen. I thought then that this episode might hammer home the idea :P Hobert Hightower(Otto's brother) is committing treason by declaring Aegon "Second of His Name" because the baby has not been coronated as King. That title is reserved only for the King and Hobert is being sneaky there by trying to push the idea that Aegon is the Heir and not Rhaenyra.

TithenielUtiradiel

In hindsight is obvious... how did I not catch that? 😐

tiramisujen ≽^•⩊•^≼

Ye! Cause there actually is a Targaryen Heir named Aegon before this part of the history, but he was never coronated so he didn't get the title

TT

There is a subtitle mistake in this episode on HBO (just checked it with english CC captions on), saying the guy who yells dragon returning is called Joffrey Velaryon. He is actually Ser Joffrey Lonmouth and he is not a Velaryon. That seems to be confusing people on the comments.

TT

I just found it, it's a subtitle error on HBO english subtitles with cc on. It says a character name is Joffrey Velaryon who is talking off screen, when the character talking is Joffrey Lonmouth.

tiramisujen ≽^•⩊•^≼

I think Viserys has difficulty killing the stag because it reminds him of how innocent Aemma was while pinned down and killed. All for the sake of the monarchical system. They were hoping to find the White Heart on Aegon's Name Day as surely it would be sign from the divine that he is the rightful Heir.... and it appeared to Rhaenyra ;)

Kevin Steinhelper

Half a league is 1.5 miles...I'll see if you can deduce a full league now.

Jodycnd

Yes, when they are talking about luring the crab guy out of the cave, the subtitle says ‘Joffrey Velaryon: “Dragon returning!”’ But they don’t show the character.

Demanda

Not sure if the white stag happened to be there or if they arranged that too, but the entire fuss about its symbolism for kings in the Kingswood etc was just propaganda from Otto and his cohorts. They were soft-floating the idea and expectation of Aegon being named heir. It’s interesting that the white stag did appear to Rhaenyra, and that when faced with the opportunity to bag it for her own glory she made the decision her father only wished he could.

tiramisujen ≽^•⩊•^≼

Think it's really hard to choose a least favourite character especially at this point, because while Otto is maybe the least likeable atm, he's a delight to watch!

Amanda K

Nick "I'd chuck her in the river." 😂😂😂

Joe Brown

yeah im not sure they realise only those on the iron throne get a number after their name, or contribute to the numbers of others. the mother of dragons isnt the first Daenerys Targaryen for example, but is still called First of her Name.

TLC

Great reaction guys. I think everyone else has hit the key points. Can't remember a GoT/HotD reaction where you made me laugh more. Your one liners had me rolling.🤣

Kevin Steinhelper

Yes as others are saying the dragons are very much their own characters in this show. You'll need to get to know how to identify them and their names :) Seasmoke was the dragon at the end of the episode not Caraxes. Seasmoke was not mentioned in the show up until that point so it's a full on surprise appearance by the showrunners to introduce him.

Joe Brown

no one else was flying caraxes, the dragon would toast anyone who tried besides its bonded rider (daemon). because daemon was going in alone to bait the triarchy out, caraxes couldnt be involved as he wouldnt have a rider. the dragon was seasmoke, leanor's dragon. only targaryens are allowed to have dragons, but leanor is the son of rhaenys

Joe Brown

others have pointed this out but "joffrey valaryon" is a subtitle error. ser joffrey is a friend of ser leanor but hes no valaryon.

Malamute

What i like about this episode is that Daemon doesnt say a single word this episode. That whole scene and the battle, not a single word. A man of action.

tiramisujen ≽^•⩊•^≼

Oh yeah I forgot this would be confusing coming from GoT because it does often look like Visereon and Rhaegal just do what Dany wants with no riders of their own. That’s sort of just a GoT show thing. A dragon wouldn’t have been used in war without their own rider.

TithenielUtiradiel

I hate that Rhaegal left without Jon later on. If Jon was his ridder, would the dragon still fo with Daenerys? I know is just plot points but that point but still!

tiramisujen ≽^•⩊•^≼

Speculating on riders for Rhaegal and Visereon is a favourite pastime for the ASOIAF community lol

tiramisujen ≽^•⩊•^≼

Yes very interesting when Sansa visits it there is only a Weirwood stump! I wonder if we will find out what happened to that particular tree 🤔 it gets emphasised often

Krystal

He does speak in the beginning of the episode when he's calling the crabfeeder to come out of his cave

MB

'Crabulous' made me shake my head but I loved it anyway

Thomas

I kinda laughed when Damo said "Remember Joffrey's second name day when he was getting mad drunk?" 🤣😭

tiramisujen ≽^•⩊•^≼

Since the main Game of Thrones books stop around season 5 of the show, where Daenarys first rides Drogon, we don't have much information from the books about what the bond between Dragon and rider is like. Many fans speculate that it might be similar to how wargs bond and control their familiar, like Bran literally sees through the eyes of Summer or Hodor. I think it's quite interesting that they showed Daemon take a an arrow and Caraxes cried out in pain. Perhaps a hint? There's also many warnings for wargs about living too long in their animal and forgetting themselves. I wonder if this is what Viserys refers to when he says "The idea we control the dragons is an illusion." His dragon was Balerion, the last creature to have ever seen Old Valyria. Has Viserys managed to make this incredible model of Valyria because of his connection with Balerion? Has he also seen it through Balerion's eyes?

Daemon should've worn a helmet.
