Amazing series, but LOST better be next or else

Nick

I believe Severance is next but LOST is sure to happen sooner or later and it’s gonna be a legendary reaction!

DN Reacts

Lost lost 2 polls in a row to Chernobyl and Severance. I’m sure it will win soon though!

Michael Richmond

Idk why but your version is slightly faster than mine lol

Jill Kinchen

I’ve watched multiple reactions to this show and this is common for reactors outside of the US. I don’t know why this particular show because most shows are fine, but I’ve noticed it always happens with British and Aussie reactors. Their frame rates are faster on Chernobyl so the syncing gets off.

DN Reacts

So frustrating when this happens. A workaround is to use a VPN, set it to England and the frame rates should align

Michael Richmond

Thank you sir love you guys. And this show is fantastic can’t wait for the rest

Mindbomb

It is worth saying... The sound design in this show is top notch. Also, Dyatlov reminds so much of Ser Duncan, very similar personalities.

Jill Kinchen

I can’t be bothered to use a VPN so I just pause your reaction for a second every minute or so. Annoying, but it works. 😂

I had this too, and had it happen with a few things in the past. I'll just mention that anyone using a downloaded version, if you use a bluray/dvd version instead of a web version, that sorts it.

Blink More

Great stuff thanks. For a few questions that you had, no need for me or others to answer them, this show is a bit of a mystery (in terms of genre) and it all gets explained in the end. Funny though, you are the first reactors ive seen guessing "is that the guy at the start? or this guy? maybe thats him?" the whole ep lol.

Blink More

I see in the outro you googled iodine tablets, it does get explained in a later episode :3

I’m glad it wasn’t just me, I thought I was going crazy!

This show is incredible, I would dare say it’s a perfectly made miniseries. As Damo said, it’s a bit weird to be so enthusiastic about a show that depicts such horrible historic events. But it’s so well made, it’s hard not to love it. Lots of wonderful actors, a few who pop up in the following episodes.

Julie A

A friend of mine was a child in Kyiv when this happened. I think that’s about 60 miles away. Anyway, she moved to the US when she was a teenager and never likes to talk about the subject.

Kevin Steinhelper

Chilling how we see the light of the explosion through the window a second or so before we hear the sound. It's really just a gripping and incredible show even though it's hard to watch at times.

Julie A

I just remembered this happened when some reactors in Europe were watching The Sopranos. I guess I’m gonna quit recommending that one. 😢

Katie Niekamp

Where are you watching this? I'm watching on Max and it won't sync. Would you consider uploading a version that's picture and picture?

Gus

This is a classic quirk known as the PAL speedup (or "PAL effect"). Here's what's going on: The core issue: frame rate mismatch The US uses NTSC, which runs at 29.97 fps for video (or 24fps for film content) The UK/Europe uses PAL, which runs at 25 fps When a show shot at 24fps (film/cinematic) gets broadcast in a PAL country, rather than doing a complex frame-rate conversion, distributors historically just sped the whole thing up to 25fps. That's a speed increase of about 4.17%.

So glad you guys have finally arrived at this mini series, because it really is a must-watch. It's gripping and horrific and frustrating the whole way through. I don't know if you guys caught it but at 52:48 (for about 10 secs) you can see where the fallout is already killing the trees in the wide shot. It looks almost autumnal at first glance but the brown is all the foliage dying in the path of the wind/smoke plume. There's still some green on the edges. It's a great visual queue of the environmental destruction (as if all the human devastation wasn't enough to clue you in already).

Gus

I found a solution. Download the "Video Speed Controller" chrome extension. Set the decrease speed increment to 0.01, then decrease the patreon video speed to 0.96.

Gus

Not great, Not terrible

Al

YOu guys dont understand Soviet era communism and lies they reaped. Do a little research and look at Trumps lies. This show is relevant because something like this could hjappen again.

JASON

Yes, Damo. The dispatch call in the first episode of HBO’s Chernobyl is based on real recording from that night, which makes the scene even scarier because you can hear how confused and serious everything was in the moment.

First time watching this mini-series and I was captivated from the start. The only distraction was the inability to properly sync it up. The question of iodine pills refers to potassium iodine which protect the thyroid from absorbing radioactive iodine during a nuclear disaster. This helps reduce the risk of thyroid cancer only.....🤣guess I should wait for the outro to comment.

Susen

Having the same sync issues - I get it matched up to the picture, but the show is so dark it's hard to find those identifying markers to match to (the time definitely is different) - you're a full minute ahead - but about every minute, I just pause you and let my video catch up to you. My total run time says 1:23:45 (with credits) - yours ran to 53:46 (best I can tell) and mine was at 56:44 at that time.. if that's helpful at all.

Really fascinating series in a horrific way… this is my 3rd watch and it blows my mind every time. Hearing the expert (guy with the cat) on the phone say “actually 3.6 is concerning and you should evacuate-“ had me shocked when I first saw this. Mind was blown when they said the 200r meter was maxed out, but then to hear that 3.6 is cause for evacuation? Could not of been handled worse
