I hate doing commissions. The results seldom please me, the pressure is too great. But I do enjoy writing the words "COMMISSIONS OPEN" on Bluesky (and in the past, Twitter) and drawing, as fast as I can, the suggestions that tickle me for half an hour or so. The results ALWAYS surprise and please me which says something about my damaged psyche. I get a lot of well-intentioned requests that embody the spirit of the old live Q&A favourite "this is a question in two parts and the first part is a statement". I don't draw those ones, not because I don't want to, but because I can't.

This evening's batch:"John Constantine" (from HELLBLAZER)"Desmond Fishman piloting a giant mechanized armor suit""Esther being 200% gothy""Spitfire and the Troubleshooters"COMMISSIONS CLOSED.

I'm so glad you accepted to do a commition for the birth announcement of my daughter. And now she's old enough to appreciate it and be a little proud ! Once again, thank you so much !

scarygoround

I remember enjoying doing yours, Damien, you and your partner with the crib, right? It came easy.

Luke Drotos

Closed already? How else will I be able to commission your take on a Tim Misny billboard

Desmond is just glorious

Brian

Lol. I did not expect to see that here. Kudos from one Clevelander to another.

Damien Galban

Yes , that was it ! Glad you enjoyed it too !

Jack

Marvellous stuff. #Des4Eva

Back when you were young and foolish I commissioned a "Old Bob from The Black Hole" for use as my digital avatar and while you had an air of "why would anyone want *MY* work?" (I hope you might be over now) you were nice enough to do for me. Even as digital, it is one of my most cherished pieces of art. And it has always given me the excuse when asked about it, since I use it literally everywhere I have a digital presence, to sing the praises of you, especially because I know you're the type of fellow who will not. Anyway these are lovely. Shout out to the Marvel New Universe.

ah. ze buggre. would have asked for Tom Baker ( the truest Dr. ) and K9 rigging a volkswagon minibus for transdimensional shenanigans.

Moe Lane

I know you don't do those, but I would still pay real money to have you do the cover art for one of my novels. :)

That was another one I think came out really well!

Story suggestion: John Constan-Teen, wherein a teenaged boy wears a significantly oversized trenchcoat, solves supernatural mysteries, and tries (and fails) to obtain cigarettes. I imagine he's an avid comic book reader who has latched onto John Constantine for some reason and chosen to emulate him.

You really seem to like the New Universe. I completely skipped all of that at the time (just as I did the Ultimates, honestly). Not sure why I'm so averse, but it seems to me like you favored that era, if I'm not mistaken (I don't think Spitfire is the first time the NU has come up but maybe I'm wrong)

TheTurtleMoves

Not a bad idea but it's not wildly off of what Books of Magic was

The only contact I had with it was the limited reprint material that ran in the back of Marvel UK titles. Its failure is what I enjoy, the fact that it's quite limited, not sprawling like most Marvel things.
