Chloe ♡

this is where everyone realises charlie should be head boy and not the free cookies people

Merel

He has even captured the attention of the teachers. This goes so much further than head student elections. Charlie will change the school for the better for years to come.

Liz

Oh Charlie. This speech is beautiful. ❤️‍🩹

Sarah Jacobs

Yes Charlie!! Oh that 'banter' feels like a slap in the face doesn't it?

Martine Scarabea

The look on the guys faces says it all, amazing job!

Debbie

Starting off this way, with the journey of how much he's dealt with. Especially before having the strength to do that speech is amazing. Not all of us can do this! 🥹

Fey 🍂

Brilliant speech Charlie!! 😍

Noah

you can tell by the facial expressions they are listening and impressed.

Sara_JT

This is so inspiring Alice!!!! Thank you for sharing this and showing how important mental health awareness is and how difficult it is for people to talk about how they’re are feeling, especially men, due to the toxic stereotypes that are put upon us when we are young 🫶🏻

Maisie

This is such an important conversation and it means so much for this to be talked about so openly! GO CHARLIE!! 💖 and thank you Alice for raising awareness of it! <3

Adriane Tanjutco

I wish I was as brave as Charlie to speak up at his age

Kayleigh Clarke

I love that you can see that he is actually getting through to people. He’s grown so much, to even be able to talk about this, never mind in front of the entire school! So important to see this 💙

Chloe ♡

everyone realising that no one has really ever said this in the school before and it’s finally time for a change even the teachers are interested in this speech, i love this page and the message ❤️

Blissnfaith

Charlie’s got everyone’s rapt attention. He’s speaking straight to their souls. 🩷

John Deuel

I can only imagine what Youssef is going through right now.

Sweegie

Jo Mary

So amazing thank you Alice l love it so much wish l had Charlie confidence at school after being bullied 🩵

Jordan

That bottom right boy looks like maybe the same one who looked at Nick and Charlie with some hope/adoration on the first day of school?? 💜 beautiful

Annika D.

OMG, the same boy who looked so in awe when Nick and Charlie entered school together on their first day. He's now fully impressed by Charlie and his message 😍

Chris

Charlie doesn’t speak out a lot in front of a crowd but when he does it’s not for nothing 💪

Liliana Costa

Can I hear Nick sniffling in the back out of pride? Wait that’s me 😭 So proud of him for finally speaking up. But also very proud that everyone is actually listening… this page is amazing

Jordan

Also I’m sure Nick is just melting back stage 🫠 gorgeous how Charlie is not only speaking of the how toxic masculinity hurt him but hurt Nick too (flashback to Nick saying he felt like he had to hide his real feelings and personality)

Noemiette

Charlie is going off and Im so here for this cause he is right ! Also, taking note of that kid that we've seen for the 2nd time now. I knew the 1st time his design was too precise to be a random extra 👀

Charlie

I love all their stunned faces. I bet you could hear a pin drop! Yes Charlie!!

Ashley Robinson

He is speaking to their hearts. ❤️. As a teacher myself, I know how I would feel if this were a student in my school.

Ania W.

Charlie doesn't just fight for votes with his speech. He speaks loudly about what no one else dares to say. Courage, wisdom and maturity - this is the new Charlie.

Loveislove

Holy wow - nobody sleeping in the audience now 😳. Pretty sure the other candidates will vote for Charlie now.

jona teniers

Go Charlie !! Nick gonna be so proud.

Nyssa Rawther 🍉

Omg these tiny young faces staring at Charlie like they've just had a revelation 😭😭😭

K Lyn

You tell them Charlie ❤️

Justin S.

Charlie 🥹😭 Alice you continue to do so much to encourage and influence discussions like this. Helping others!

Siska

Go Charlie. We all need a Charlie in our lives 😭

Katy Boelter-Dimock

Yes! My thought too when reading this page-the impact on young (and old) people reading this story, remembering or learning about how boys are harmed so much by “toxic masculinity”/sexism. Go Charlie & go Alice!

Maisie

Absolutely!! It’s going to have such a positive impact!! This type of conversation needs to be talked about so much, as sexism, bullying and homophobia are so rife, particularly in schools.

Allison Drevich

This is going to change and save so many lives.

Loveislove

I wish Julio and Jane were in the audience to see and hear all that their son has grown to be.

Carly Louise

This page is amazing 👏 Also how proud would Geoff the therapist be too 🩷 So glad Tori is in the audience

Rose Diamond10

Charlie standing tall down the center of the page He radiates calm confidence as he speaks his truth. The strength in his vulnerability, his openness, his offer to lead the school in meaningful change. How the reaction panels intersperse with dialogue to show what he is saying as it lands, the audience is captivated and engaged. They feel called out, seen, inspired. The word “unacceptable” rings out like a bell, and hangs in the air. They have to listen, they have to do better.

Jo S

I think Charlie showed he has glimmers of this strength before - when he walked into the changing room when he heard the other boys speaking about him .. and when he tackled Harry and told him to ‘Piss off!’ This speech is a result of his lived experience and it is so powerful! So proud of the person he is! 🥹 Go Charlie🙌🙌🫶🏻 and you can see the effect already! ❤️

Carly Louise

Bet the other candidates are glad Charlie went last. Imagine having to follow THIS speech 💙

Loveislove

Omg Alice, I remember you being worried that nothing "big" happens in this volume. Seems to me it is pretty monumental so far!

ACxo

I’m so proud of Charlie. He’s come so far with being able to openly talk about the bullying and his experience with it. Now he’s going to change Truham for the better and help other students who are going through the same thing he did! Hes just incredible ❤️

Ann-Marie Still

This is going to be as pivotal as when Charlie talks to Ben in S2 ep7. His strength is his lived experiences. As someone else has said Alice, your fears of this volume having no big stories is unfounded. Because we all know just how big this issue is because we've lived it. Some of us in real life, and some of us through your amazing characters. Charlie is without a doubt one of the strongest characters ever written 💜

Sulagna Maitra

I love that the focus is entirely on Charlie saying his piece and how it is resonating with people beyond the Heartstopper regulars. ❤️ Also, the amount of courage it takes to go out there in the spotlight and speak your truth is phenomenal. Nick is right, Charlie is one of the strongest people we know. Coming to terms with your trauma is one thing. But talking about it openly? Marshalling the willpower to channel all that experience into a positive change for your school? That is TREMENDOUS!! Actually, knowing the contents of his speech now makes all those previous panels where Charlie was preparing (and being adorably nervous) about the speech even more compelling. Those expressions make even more sense now. Alice you are a genius!! ❤️ And I love that a date for your operation has been finalised in November ❤️

Shane Green

I know I shouldn't make assumptions... but I think Charlie's words are really speaking to the student in the bottom right panel 🥹❤️

Larisa

Charlie baby ❤️❤️❤️🥹🥹🥹

Carina

🥺❤️

Lainey

Charlies speech has been so beautifully worded, I know he will go on to help so many younger students in the heartstopper world but also help so many readers in real life. I think we’ve all been seeing an increase of people online and in general becoming“casual bullies” or just being mean to people for fun and this is becoming so normalized that people often just brush it off and pretend they’re okay. This page is a great reminder that it is completely valid to feel hurt when someone hurts you and these mean things that many people are saying are completely unacceptable!

emily

GO CHARLIE !!!! i’m so proud of him 🥹

KH

Fuck 'em up, Charlie! I hope he also goes off on the teachers who look the other way and allow that kind of behavior, and shouts out the good ones who provide safe space for those who need it.

Evergreen

Yes! He wasn’t JUST nervous about public speaking (which would have been fair enough). He was nervous about speaking something that is incredibly precious to him, that he has only talked about with two or three people before because it’s so vulnerable. AND it’s something fundamental to his identity and vision, which means there’s a real risk of having a huge part of his deepest self rejected if the speech isn’t received well. That kind of thing makes even the most seasoned public speakers nervous! Strength and bravery x1000. 💚

Loveislove

Do Charlie's parents even know what he went through at school? It's disappointing they didn't have him in therapy based upon the bullying, never mind not noticing his eating disorder and ocd. And not noticing Tori's struggles. How about some family therapy sessions?

Roarrrry

You tell em Charlie!

oddtree

Captivated audience

dominique

Oh, that’s the same boy who was looking at Nick & Charlie walking in! I don’t know if we’ll get to find out more about him, but I love his expressions on both that panel and this. Like seeing them, and Charlie’s words, resonate with him. 🥺💜

Olivia

yes charlie👏👏👏

Nellie Lovett

This speech is amazing! Go Charlie!!

Robert

I am of mature years (70+) but reading Heartstopper has majorly affected me. Not least it made me realise I was bullied as a youngster (8-16). It was mental and not physical (oddly, I don't think I realised at the time). At Junior School I would suddenly find myself ostracised from the group (it was a small village school) and generally shunned by the others and this could go on for days (I would never find out why. When we moved to senior school he would just niggle me for no reason. It would go on for days until I reacted. Then things would be normal for a while until it would start up again. This went on for 5 years and, again, I'd never know why. There was never anyone to turn to to help/talk, unlike today.

Aristine

why am i crying already ???

E

Killer speech so far!

Ariel

I'm loving this so so much, thank you Alice🥺😍❤️

Scott Whittall

Who needs tissue?! We are rejoicing at Charlie's strength, sincerity, humanity, and incredible poise. Panning through the room we see Charlie's passionate words deeply resonating with so many, as they listen intently. Hopefully we can see the expressions of James, Mr. Farouk, Mr. Ajayi, Tori, Mr. Lange, the rugby lads, and Harry (with his misfit mates). But most importantly the sheer pride from Aled, Tao and the beaming (probably tear streaked face) of Nick more in love with his boyfriend than ever . Another iconic Heartstopper moment, Alice.

Nils

Some people are looking very uncomfortable. Well we know he would win but now we know why. This kind of speech is strong stuff. Sure there might be a few morons who would make fun out of it afterwards but they would be quieted quickly. He is going to win an outright majority even if it would be a quiet one. I can imagine not many people openly admitting that he is right and that they have the same issues, like he said the expectations are high, but even those who say nothing or would deny voting for him, will vote for him.

mills

preachhhhhhhh

ally

im so very proud

S

Remember the guy from when N and C were walking into school together, and he was looking at them kinda wistfully? That’s the same guy in the fourth panel! THE WHOLESOMENESS 🥹 And at the beginning, the crowd looked bored, and uninterested (probs because the other candidates only offered cookies) and now they’re alert, and listing to every word Charlie is saying! Alice, this page is amazing.

Oliver Midson

I KNEW that kid in the glasses was gonna be important!

Joni

He has their attention. Good! Is that kid in the glasses the same one that saw Charlie holding Nick’s hand? I kinda hope so. Also, earlier Charlie put his speech in his pocket but I never saw him pull it back out again. Is he saying all of this from memory? If so, that’s impressive and meaningful. He doing so well either way! 😍

Irene.a.f

🪷💖 not me crying

Ada Suzany

Silence HE IS SPEAKING 😭😭😭😭☝🏼☝🏼

Beam Bugge

giving a big middle finger to homophobia AND toxic masculinity, yeah i can see why he wins!

Beam Bugge

thankfully the greene bean is better now! hopefully the rest of the school will be too...

Nick Jones

Our boy Charlie, kicking ass and taking names!

Beam Bugge

my guess would be that one of the teachers (possibly mr ajayi?) informed them eventually, but yeah charlie probably kept most of it to himself for as long as he could get away with it

boombroadcast

Speak on it Charlie! I love how we can see him gradually becoming more confident as he hits his stride, standing tall, letting go of that podium and gesticulating a bit… and we can see the audience (students and teachers!) becoming more engaged, too. I would love to see the proud look on Mr. Farouk’s face! 💕 (Wonder if Coach Singh is here, too…)

Jennifer Paddock

The wide eyes of all the students listening is everything!! ❤️

Loveislove

I predict we see the young lad in glasses standing up to those very same morons.

van

omg it’s the same little baby gay who looked at nick and charlie🥺

Fran

EXACTLY!! Men have been raised with this idea that they have to be tough, but at the end they’re humans

Claire

You just sense that the boy at the bottom of the page (with the glasses) might be reaching out to Charlie for support once he is elected.

Ana Alicia Aranda De Contreras

Charlie, you are the bravest person of all and seeing you so firm and fighting for the abuse to end is admirable 🥺🥺

PupFenrir

The next page is gonna show The Paris Squad in tears and Nick literally balling his eyes out 😭 We need more N&C in this world

Claudine

I used to be bullied myself and this panel hit me to the core. It's so true, people who are bullied 'shouldn't act like that' and 'toughen up'. Even my father said that words don't hurt. Words do hurt, a lot in fact. No one should ever be bullied, it can ruin lives.

Andrew Pitonack

The looks on the boys' faces 🥹. It is a tough age to begin with and have to deal with being gay just adds to it. I love how confident/ strong Charlie is this chapter ❤️

ucfnurse

Unacceptable 100%🥹🥹🙌🫂👥👍💔❤️‍🩹❤️‍🔥❣️🌺🌟🏳️‍🌈🌈✌️🕊️☮️

Lusi

Alice, you're my superhero!!! 🥺😘🥺 You make every underdog seen! I love every single page of Vol. 6 with my whole heart. Charlie is my forever favourite fictional character and you make him even more loveabel with each new page you share. The world needs more Nicks and Charlies! How you draw these last pages is outstanding! Thank you! I'm in tears once again! 😭🥺❤

Nils

I hope so. I've got a feeling that this lad unfortunately knows exactly what Charlie is talking about.

Beam Bugge

what if he's the kid that charlie made cry (but it's tears of joy) what then

Emily Hopkins

GO CHARLIE GO 😭😭🔥🔥🔥

2catlovers

I would love Nick to come onstage at the end and kiss Charlie openly in front of the whole school….

kissyoulots

this speech is so powerful !!! woah. thank you charlie ! thank you alice !!!!

Danielle Rahn

Charlie is so amazing, so courageous. Chills!!

Diana N

I am loving Charlie’s speech. I am loving how strong he is and it’s wonderful and he has to know that he is helping people, there has to be someone in the crowd feeling this way and I cannot wait to see the entirety of his speech. So far, I’m loving it, and I am loving seeing his strength and the beauty of him being able to speak his truth but also to let people know that it can be gotten through, but there is still a problem in the school that people need to stop bullying others. I think it’s a beautiful sequence and I’m just really loving it and seeing how far Charlie has come ❤️❤️❤️

margaux

gender studies trailblazer charlie spring

Murgy

For some of the people listening, this will be the first time they've been told they're allowed to feel. That being a "man" isn't about bottling everything up and ignoring problems. I hope Mr Farouk, Charlie and Alice are proud of this speech

Eileen

Omg Alice I love this. This is so important.

2catlovers

I wish someone had said this at my school….

KL

oh too see nicks face in this moment. he has seen first hand the growth that charlie has made, wich is such a beautiful thing. he was the person charlie opened up too first and that changed his path forever. i love them so so much, and as a teen myself, this is really encouraging for me if i am honest :)

RCM

Bullies act by taking power away from others. Hurt people often protect themselves by giving up their own power to make themselves smaller,or less than. Charlie is calling bullshit on the dysfunctional illusion that either is okay, or wanted, by anyone. I love how this page is drawn to really highlight the power behind everything that Charlie is saying...we see the “classic” insignia podium placed center stage (where the audience probably just heard a bunch of the stereotypical “I’m running for Head Student blah blah blah” empty promises), standing in stark contrast to the calm, peaceful position and tone in which Charlie speaks. He’s strongly standing up against accepted “norms,” but he doesn’t yell or show resentment for what happened to him…rather, he is open and vulnerable, essentially saying, “I see you. I’ve been you. Your feelings, and my feelings, and his feelings, and her feelings, and their feelings? They are all VALID. I’m with you, we're in this together, and enough is enough.” And, the way that each of the inset panels showing the audience is set slightly behind Charlie really reflects that they ARE listening…the teachers who have helped prevent bullying as well as those teachers who turned their heads to let ‘boys be boys’…they’re listening. The Harry Greenes and Ben Hopes of the world, they’re listening. The young Charlies, the quiet Aleds, the maybe sometimes too loud Taos…they’re listening. The proud boyfriend but still not quite sure of himself despite what everyone thinks/expects Nick Nelsons, they’re listening. Some are shrinking in the seats and some are sitting taller and more visibly, but they are all listening. Keep going, Charlie. We’re listening...

Jazmine Terson

YES CHARLIE!! YOU TELL EM’! GET EM’ TELLED!!!!!

Sandra Day

Wow!! Alice!!! This is wonderful !!!! You are even more amazing 💙💛

Katha

I like that boy with glasses so much. I hope, we see a little more of him.

2catlovers

This exactly. This message is so important and I can just hear Joe Locke delivering it like an operatic aria, with such confidence & power. This is the message every bullied person wishes they could have given.

Katia Gómez

The way everyone is just listening and in awe of him. YES, you got their attention 🩷

Shanie_MC

This is SUCH a great comment. Charlie's definitely got their attention.

Kat

Oh Alice you are making me cry! So good to see a confident Charlie trying to make a difference 💜

Juliette

Oh Gosh I'm in on the verge of tears rn
