Oh damn... I think I know where we are near.. but I'll admit that though, like Charlie has came such a long way within everything. Like you take the journey from the very first volume to now, you see how much both Nick and Charlie has changed but in better ways like the development that has came together really showcases the ups and downs through everything but it's amazing how so supportive Nick has been with Charlie through all of this

With some thinking, in my previous comment I said that Nick felt guilty about having negative emotions and felt he had to be the joyful golden retriever people saw him as. But I realize in a way, people see him as this because it's what he is projecting all the time, because he buries everything. It's a game of who came first. We saw in the previous chapter that Elle and Tara see past the armor, they arent expecting him to be perfect and tell him so. So deep down it comes down more to what he thinks people are expecting of him rather that actually expections from people (There we go, the character analyses machine has been switched on in my brain xD)

Oh, I think I see foreshadowing of the Nick and Charlie novella. Elle is already contemplating her and Tao's long distance future, and fishing for the lay of the land with Nick about he and Char's future apart. Elle is always so grounded and forward thinking.

Remember that time when they had “already” talked about sex months ago but it turned out one conversation doesn’t stay relevant forever? These two have gotten so good at relationships but there’s always more to learn about communication. i agree! i also feel that nick's a bit in that headspace of not allowing himself to feel that he needs help or someone to talk, bc you know, charlie went through something way worse! so his problems are just small in comparison to that and he shouldn't complain. he can deal with it !! (he can't)

Wondering now how deeply Nick and Charlie have discussed both Leeds and Charlie's time in the hospital. Tori as well has been very impacted by Charlie's struggles. I wonder if she and Nick have spoke with each other or if Charlie has talked to either of them beyond the card he gave Tori. He seemed to acknowledge the importance of her support to Nick during This Winter.

The last volume with the uni visits was in early Summer, June/July. Now it's end of October and Nick and Charlie will be early summer next year

100% this. He wrote in his journal in chapter 6 about how he felt guilty for the way he felt when Charlie was in hospital. And I think he's carried that guilt and suppressed his own emotional trauma. And fuck, that poor boy's been through a lot. Realising he was bi, coming out, the shit with his brother and father, seeing his boyfriend go through a major mental health crisis and the sense of powerlessness to help him, trying to figure out his true self and the sense of pressure that he must do this immediately, the fear of hurting Charlie when he moves away. And all the time putting Charlie's feelings first. He should be enormously proud of Charlie but also in himself for how much he helped Charlie just by being there. But he also needs to know it's okay to not feel okay too and confront how much of a rough time he's had too.

It would be amazing if Nick could have professional sessions with someone like Geoff to talk to. Sadly accessing healthcare is so hard. It took a serious incident and a trip to A&E before Charlie got the professional support he needed. But at least he has Elle and their friend group

I love the way Elle has moved from eyes on Nick to her whole body openly facing him. She knows him and his reluctance to focus on his own needs but she is a good friend who will push to help support him. I hope he feels safe with her.

That middle panel of Elle's eyes speaks volumes of the current conversation. She knows that there is more, more that Nick needs to realise and more that they (nick and charlie) need to talk about. I also feel as though the hospital isn't something Nick has fully processed yet, like he knows it happened but not the lasting impact it has had on him. So much to go through this volume

That first panel, oof, it feels like there is a spotlight on Nick...like all attention has turned from the whole party and his glowing Charlie to...a forlorn Nick? 😔 It's hard to see, like he is sinking into his feelings and fears, then, just hearing a simple, "Nick?," shakes himself out of it, and back into the present with his drink and happy horse, and celebrating Charlie again! But, thankfully, he's talking to Elle...who is the type of person who seeks to understand. Maybe it's the artist in her, used to looking at things from several perspectives, or maybe it's because of her own lived experience, but she is intuitive, and seems to pick up on Nick's subtle signs that even though he says it's all okay, maybe she should ask more than once. I LOVE how she literally turns her entire frame to fully face Nick to check in again about Leeds. And, he avoids answering again. TECHNICALLY, he's right. They have talked (at least once!) about Leeds and of course Charlie was supportive...but they haven't circled back fully or repetitively about being long distance. I love how Elle point blank asks, "You're both cool with it?" And that breaks my heart because at this very moment, how could Nick possibly say he is cool with it (if he really, really thought about it…)? Because talking about it makes it real, and neither of them want it to be really real, yet💔 You can see this all over Nick's face in that very last panel, and, like Elle, we just get the sense that Nick has a journey of his own waiting...

I hope we see soon where Charlie is in all of this. Nick said Charlie was the only one he could really talk to but he doesn't seem to be talking to him. I recall the scene in Paris in the tv series by the vending machine when Nick told Charlie he was so preoccupied with his coming out he forgot how it was affecting Charlie and he cared about that. I guess I'm wondering if Charlie has reflected on how his own journey and struggles of the last year have affected Nick.

I somehow doubt it. They have a sort of falling out after the cinema fight (in the book the aftermath is dealt with differently) so maybe that will suffice. The falling out in N&C is horrible and if I re-read the book I pass over it. The making up is good though.
