Love this so much Alice it’s amazing x 💕

Frances

Nick, remember what Charlie said in Paris: how about we promise to tell each other when we’ve got stuff going on? Open up to him. He’s the most understanding human being on this planet!

Justin S.

Nick loves his boyfriend sm I love his little munch face 🥹

Olivia Brookes

i’m so proud of him, he’s finally got his confidence and he’s coming out of his shell. i feel like the roles are slowly switching to nick being greg anxious, quiet one

Siska

This means so much to me 🥹 what I never had, what I hope my kiddo has when they are a teenager 💜🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

Desi23

Ahhh Pride club! Self-confidence Charlie Spring and a clingy Nick Nelson 🥹😍

Koko

Charlie has a finished lunch box before him. He's doing so well 🌹🥺

Noemiette

OMG the Pride Club !! I remember you teasing that for the last chapter like ... 4 years and a half ago ? Always had it at the back of my mind 😂 Gosh Nick is really struggling and I feel like, the more intense his anxiety gets, the more he clings to Charlie. Which isnt helping. It's like a vicious cercle :/

2catlovers

Nick really does seem a bit lost at the moment. Somehow he needs to find a way to unpack what’s going on - and process some of his hurt from the last year or so. Alexithymia is a real thing (when you literally cannot identify what you’re feeling, it just feels nasty). I have this and I wonder whether Nick might too as he really seems to struggle to name & process his feelings. I want to hug him!

Bryn

thinking about how the pride club would get so much out of watching heartstopper 🥹

ucfnurse

Nick’s face is sooooo sweet!!☺️😊🥰😍🤟⚽️🏫🌅☀️🌷🐱🐯☕️🍩✌️🕊️☮️

Ann-Marie Still

I feel like Nick is struggling here. He looks like he's conflicted. Pride, nervous, maybe a bit of fear creeping in. Charlie is really finding his feet.

MJ

Aww, I love that you're incorporating some bts head boy duties and ideas even after the campaign run is over. Charlie looks so excited and energized in his new role and newly gained confidence 🥰🥰🥰 I'm so curious what Nick is thinking here (other than the obvious - that he loves Charlie) I can't wait to see Charlie get to support Nick as he takes a turn to figure himself out a bit more 💕

Sulagna Maitra

I love that they can be with each other without doing the same thing together, always. In earlier seasons, we saw Charlie being in the rugby club while Nick was fully engrossed in the game. And now, Nick is happily supporting Charlie while he gets his head around the Head Boy role. It is a beautiful full circle moment. ❤️ Also, I am convinced both Nick and Charlie love watching their partner be all excited and engrossed in their work while they admire them in peace. 😂

Merel

How do I join this pride club? 😄

2catlovers

I never noticed that Charlie is left-handed in the books! Yay lefties! I don’t think Joe is left-handed though…. But Will Gao is!

Merel

Charlie being busy and still almost completely finishing his lunch 🥹

Nikki

Initially thought Nick looping his arms through Charlie’s was a pride thing, but having looks again I think it might be an anxious things-are-changing-and-he’s-not-sure-if-he-likes-it kind of move, or maybe even slightly worried about losing time with Charlie during his last year at school…? 🥺 Also - this Pride club! 😍 Really wish I’d had that at high school 🥰

Chloe ♡

i’m now imagining the future ‘nick and charlie’s’ meeting at that pride club

jearle

What I wouldn't have given for a pride club at school 30 years ago

eva cuervo

Is It possible that Nick is a little jealous? He is no longer the centre of Charlie's life, he has plans and is going to quit rugby. I think Nick is strunggling between how proud he is of him and that other feeling.

Andrew Pitonack

I love how Nick just touches him, so sweet.

Loveislove

Oh my - whiplash again. My heart is just hurting for Nick. Many of the last pages have shown Charlie turned away from Nick - even when they were together. I love that Charlie is so excited and brimming with ideas. But it is devastating to see Nick slumped and silent and reaching for Charlie's arm and attention. Oof - it just doesn't feel like who they are. Nick is such an open heart and has so much empathy. He is so proud and supportive of Charlie. I'm a little surprised Charlie is missing all these signals. This is tough going - I'm worried the dreaded black dots will surround him soon. Didn't someone offer us all therapy awhile back?

Julia

Yeah, me too. Maybe would have helped me a lot to discover my bisexuality earlier...

Barb

Something something is happening with nick🥺

Nyssa Rawther 🍉

OMG the way Charlie's so excited about this, likely his first ever Head Student agenda...and the way Nick's just so proud and needs to touch him like...please, they're so sweet 🥰🥰🥰

Kat

Nick looks so proud of Charlie and is being so beautiful and supportive as always - love the leaves in the panel. He just wants to be there for him. Can we have more Nick Nelson’s in the world please? 💜💜💜💜💜

Sarah Parker-Shemilt

Pride Club Ideas: - Invite Henry Maddox as a guest speaker (Purely for his knowledge on classical queer topics)

Ameya

Charlie is a lefty? How am I just realizing this! Also, me too!

Christie

Proud Nick or scared Nick that they'll be less time to spend together? 💜

aniatka

Same idea. Beyond all undoubtful support for Charlie he seams so deeply sad inside. It's more and more heartbreaking 😔 Nick, the most amazing of boyfriends, please, please, speak to him rn ❤️❤️❤️

Jon Goerner

Perhaps a little bit territorial Nick...?

Barb

Yeah😟...there's been little hints for a while, hope they'll talk soon😭

Beam Bugge

that sounds like a good idea considering that a vast majority of the group will likely be young boys with a celebrity crush on him 🤭🤭

Beam Bugge

oh I love how they're all helping him/keeping him company while planning this! sure Charlie is the head boy but that doesn't mean he has to be alone with it :')

ACxo

Clingy Nick 🥺

toneelspeler

the built up to nick's problems going from bubbling under the surface to the probably eventual explosion of it all is so good. love that looking back at it all, you can really already know that nick's clinginess in these moments are subconsciously him saying 'hey, i'm actually struggling a bit but i don't know how to say it' but so long as he keeps saying he's fine, it's difficult for others to help. i've never seen the things nick's currently going through portrayed in fiction before, i don't think. i really enjoy it!

Laura

Alice, I know we should go down on Nicks mental health BUT I’m not ready for that! I‘m emotionally not ready for that but I sense it’s coming!

Kayleigh Clarke

I love seeing Charlie be so excited about something! He’s come a long way! Now we just need Nick to talk about what’s bothering him so they can get through it together ❤️ I have a feeling that he’s so used to being the “strong” one for Charlie that he’s got some weird idea that telling him he’s struggling would be burdening him, where I’m sure it’s the exact opposite!

Jomaries Amezaga

Clingy Nick 🥹 I love clingy Nick, but I’m so worried, his anxiety is showing 😢

hollie

he’s so proud of him i’m crying 🥹

Cody

I'm afraid for Nick 😭

Valerie Ogundipe

I think it’s great to see how someone who is perceived to be so strong also go through things and how they handle it. Nick is clearly so happy for Charlie’s but he’s been such a big part of Nick realizing who he is that he’s scared Charlie’s growth will somehow leave him behind. 😣

Ana Alicia Aranda De Contreras

Poor Nick, it seems that something is bothering him or he is now the one who is suffering for something in silence 🥺😔😭

Noah

i love this omg :(((

Jacqui Chesterton

They're all looking so grown up. It must be weird/hard to figure out the subtleties of drawing them just slightly older, but I love that we can see it 🩷

Loveislove

I think Nick's years and days of being a people pleaser are catching up with him. He was very young when his parents divorced. It is possible his father was never a huge part of his life given his closeness to his mother and his choice to keep her last name. Nick may may be fearful of leaving Charlie but he also expressed fear of leaving his mother alone. He may have spent years projecting silent strength on her behalf smothering his own fears. Having such a bullying and hateful constant presence of his brother would also not encourage self expression. Falling in love with Charlie and realizing his identity and that pesky mask wearing are new discoveries. He knows the difficulties he has talking to others but I hope he too blossoms once he truly understands how much he is loved and valued. That is where confidence comes from - just ask Charlie!

Michael Boehnlein (Bane-line)

they watch Heartstopper on Netflix and it turns into a Black Mirror episode! jk aw nick anxiety deep dive comin’(?) my heart already breaks for him

Ashley Robinson

Charlie already finished his food. So glad he is doing well. He is excited to help others and share himself. Nick that arm tuck. He just wants to be close.

Cody

Ugh. I have mixed emotions about this. I'm super proud of Charlie's growth - I mean head boy!?!?! Nick and Charlie together 🤌 Nick is going to really struggle and I'm afraid it's all going to boil over because I'm not sure who he really has to talk to besides Charlie. Obviously they need to talk, but sometimes you need someone else's perspective

ZooKeeperHere

Aww it’s hard to transition from worried caretaker to trusting that everything is all right. Poor Nick has to redefine himself now that Charlie doesn’t need him in that role anymore ❤️

Allegra2346

Poor Nick, he’s so conflicted. Of course he wants Charlie to be independent and self assured but it’s almost as if Charlie’s self assurance is reminding Nick how little he has in himself. I think he’s worrying that now Charlie is so successful that he’ll be left in the dust. I’m worried that he’s going to drown in all of this anxiety :(((

Brittney

I do have to say, I love how things are handled and dealt with. Like this, for example, like Nick knows Charlie is going to be busy since he's now Head boy, but you can tell that through his eyes, there's something else. I love how we have dove into every perspective throughout Nick and Charlie's lives so far because one, it adds character, and two, it really showcases the meanings and struggles behind it

Robert

I'm not Cody especially if you read in the Nick and Charlie novella. Clearly Nick found his start at Uni difficult but he still has Charlie to support him albeit from a distance. Also both of them admit that love each other "more than anyone else in the world". All relationships are bumpy and N&C are (and will be) no different. I'm sure Nick will make friends at Uni if only at Rugby but perhaps the biggest danger to their relationship will come when Charlie goes to Uni.

Robert

The N&C novella has Charlie saying Nick can always tell when things are not going well with him (Charlie). Strangely Charlie does not seem to possess the same ability. Also, of course, has his new responsibilities and has to start working on his programmme on which he was elected so possibly doesn't have the time to find anything wrong with Nick.

Ashley Robinson

I also don’t know if you plan to fully incorporate the Nick and Charlie novella. But you are totally setting it up to fit. Amazing job!

Alisha Buchanan

Nick looks both proud and like he needs that bit of security of touch from his boyfriend. 💜

Robert

Sneha, in the books Charlie is a lefty but Joe isn't. That said he did throw at least one of his snowballs left handed.

Julie

I’m impressed that Charlie is taking his new job seriously. ❤️

Carrie Lindley

While we all want Nick to talk about his feelings ASAP, I'm actually here to say that I love how realistically you're portraying the progression here. I think it's really normal to not know something is wrong -- to not realize you need to talk or seek professional help -- because those feelings can really creep up on you. At first, you might tell yourself you're just having a bad day. Or that you're hormonal. Or stressed. Or that you're overreacting and you'll be fine. And then, because it happens gradually, you might not recognize that you're getting worse instead of better. And it might take even longer for the people close to you to see a change, especially if you keep hiding it from them and downplaying your feelings. It took Nick all of volume 3 to figure out Charlie needed help (and then of course volume 4 to help Charlie journey towards healing). While I hope both Nick and Charlie are more clued up on mental health now, and will figure out sooner that some help is required, I'm glad you're not portraying this as a quick and easy conversational fix. Hang in there boys (and the readers who love them)!

Evergreen

I agree with Loveislove that Nick is in transition from his lifelong caretaker/make-it-all-ok-er role now that he’s about to leave for uni and Charlie has found his own center of gravity. I guess his mom still might not be “taken care of” in his mind, but I’m sure part of him knows she’s an adult and will be OK when he leaves. So now what? Who is he outside of his caretaker role? What a lovely thing to get to discover as he comes of age. So many of us get stuck in the roles of our youth forever. I think this opportunity to discover himself will eventually propel Nick to get really excited about uni, which will lead to him talking about it all the time like we see in Nick and Charlie. With all of this back story, with both of them exploring new, exciting roles for themselves, it’s easy to see why there’s a moment of misunderstanding in N+C. They have to find their new center as they change, and that’s not always a seamless process. So often, we still operate in our old patterns of communication well after they’ve stopped serving us, and it leads naturally to misunderstanding because those old patterns simply can’t express the more recent version of ourselves. It all makes the conflict of N+C seem less jarring and much more like a natural moment of growth in a solid, long term relationship. It becomes less about heartbreak, and more about how confusing it can be to grow with someone as you find new ways to communicate.

CinD

Thankful for these last few pages because people tend to forget Nick and Charlie at the end of the day are just human. They aren’t perfect in knowing how to communicate 24/7 and it’s normal to be confused at their age. Everything is changing.

Evergreen

And GO CHARLIE!!! I love seeing this lightness of being and sense of purpose. It’s beautiful.

toneelspeler

I think the issue would more likely be here that Nick is overly focused on everyone's wellbeing, and thus Charlie's, over his own, because of who he is and how he grew up (wanting clearly to have the approval of his father who neglects him no matter what he tries to do and i do think he's very much attuned to how his mother has felt over the years too). i think Nick finds it very difficult to feel what he's actually feeling because he might have felt there was no space for that when he was younger with the divorce (and his brother wasn't really nice to him either) so he never really learned how to know how different he felt and how to talk about it. So the 'blandness', the 'always okay'-ness, for lack of a better term, that Nick must show outwardly is not something that is really that noticeably different at this point to Charlie, i think. It's been who Nick is for some time. Add to that that Charlie's getting some real confidence boost from being chosen by his peers and actually having the power to reduce bullying that affected him so heavily, I don't think it's that weird Charlie isn't seeing it, just yet! But he'll get it, and I'm glad that this is the kind of trouble they are dealing with in their relationship because it's so much more authentic!

Krystyn

I love how they evolve. Seeing Charlie blooming and Nick just being there, the last panel with Nick’s hand on Charlie’s arm made me melt. 💜

Scott Whittall

Nickie is absolutely beaming aside his Head Boyfriend. Sandwich in one hand and the arm of his soulmate in the other. What else could a good rugby lad want..LOL? Nick is slowly realizing Charlie's evolution . Charlie is stronger, more confident, mentally more healthy ( empty lunchbox in front of him), and undeniably more popular. Nick's underlying worries about, Char while he is away at uni, are dissolving. He is starting to understand that Char will be OK while they are apart. But....how is he going to handle it???

Cody

I've read the Nick and Charlie novella. I just know it's going to be a little rough until we get there 😕

boombroadcast

idk, Charlie’s definitely been checking in and reassuring Nick frequently (like, two pages ago!), but it’s not like Nick is really showing any major signs of anything being up, and while we can sense that he’s got some inner turmoil, to be fair it’s not like he’s spiraling in a really obvious or dangerous way. Why would Charlie disbelieve him when he says he’s good?

Julie NP

I think Nick does need to talk about this with someone else other than Charlie first before he speaks to Charlie. However, I think nick underestimates himself - he was quite strong with his father when he told him he didn’t care what he thought anymore and to be the rugby king is quite something . I have a feeling we will see Nick develop and grow with the help of Charlie and his friends support and love . Good for Charlie - great to see his quiet confidence.

boombroadcast

So proud of Charlie! These are all great ideas, and yeah, he should totally bring in Henry Maddox for one of those “queer history” talks. 👀 It’s lovely to see Charlie so excited about things, and the empty lunchbox is a nice little reminder of how far he’s come. 💕And yeah, this is all probably a better use of his time than rugby right now, as important and beloved an era as that was. Nick’s definitely feeling a bit adrift, maybe insecure? I hope he can open up to Charlie about it soon, but I sense he probably isn’t even sure *what* he’s feeling or how to articulate it at this point.

Kristen

It’s so sweet to see Charlie coming out of his shell and gaining courage and confidence. Nick is going through a lot of emotions (pride and fear being the strongest, would be my guess) so I hope he does seek someone to talk to, other than Charlie. Processing all he’s been through with Char and coming out and his family…he needs that! He’s used to hiding his own feelings so he can take care of Char, but Char is taking care of himself a lot more, I’m sure Nick is having to figure out his role in Charlie’s life. Love them so much!

Loveislove

I hear everyone - I do think Nick has extra tingly spider senses - probably from years of experience being that observing kid - even think back to him following Charlie to Ben's ambush in Vol 1 because he was concerned something was up. Plus I know we have the insider view that Charlie does not. I'm realizing this storyline is a wee bit triggering for me but in Alice we trust 🥰

Murgy

Nick is so proud of Charlie, and its just enjoying a content moment while Charlie outlines big plans. Which from experience, organising a Pride/LGBT+ society isn't an easy thing, especially when its first starting, but it will hopefully be an impactful legacy/gift to Truham going forward

Tyne Swedish

I will have to continue to see bc clearly something is going on with Nick and I’m unsure if this is Pride or jealousy of sharing Charlie. We shall see bc I can’t make up my mind. And after everything Charlie went thru I do understand Nick wanting to protect Charlie.

Jen

The bottom panel is so sweet 😍🥰

Calfic

It could really be both. I mean I have been there. (and partners have been there with me.). I think a talk with Sarah is in order.

Amanda Pinon

They've grown into the boys we see in Nick and Charlie the novella and it happened so gradually I didn't even realize it until now

James

In the Novella, Charlie says he and Nick talked about their relationship and being long distance twice before — once when Nick goes visiting unis (so last chapter) then once again when he actually applies. Isn't it about now that Nick should be sending off his official applications? Could that be the catalyst that finally leads to a conversation?

Calfic

So I have MANY thoughts, lol. First so proud of Charlie. I am wondering if that boy who keeps looking at N&C with awe will come to the club. Second, I do think Nick is feeling love and pride but also insecurity. Now that Charlie is doing really well, and coming into his own, what does that mean for them, especially since he cut out rugby. (A good move I think.). Also, I think Nick will pretend everything is ok, because he is emotionally intelligent (which he doesn't quite get about himself yet.) and will know that isn't the most healthy reaction . (But who has af 100% perfect reactions all the time? You can't intellectualize yourself out of feelings I have found.) . I feel like Charlie may start to cancel plans once in awhile due to Head Boy duties, which is to be expected, but may make Nick feel more isolated. (and he, of course, will participate in this club, but there will most likely be other work that Charlie has to do without him.)

David C Witkin

I love how Alice is so good at showing the subtleties of Nick's emotions in these drawings as he and Charlie grow and change. His pride and love are evident, but there are hints of the storms that are brewing beneath the surface. Masterful work.

Tina

i think nick has both a "idk how to express myself" but also a "i don't want to rain on your parade" moment

CarrieLuvs

I'm thinking it's part of his insecurities about losing Charlie. Soooo much of the imagery in this chapter so far has been about Charlie walking away or Charlie turned away from him (even when they were lying in bed). Nick is the one who will be leaving for uni, but I think in Nick's heart, he's worried that it will be Charlie who drifts away.

Beam Bugge

I didn't notice the empty lunchbox before seeing other people pointing it out in the comments, that's such a nice detail!

2catlovers

Also he came from a broken home & kids that go through that young often have higher sensitivity to things being wrong with people.

Cliff

Do they have Gay Straight Alliance Clubs in UK schools? I like the idea of the extra inclusivity and that they're also a safe haven for kids still figuring out their identities.

awww he’s so proud of his boy

Nick holds Charlie's arm as if to say: I love you. Please don't run too fast without me and don't leave me behind.

hwalker

Depends! My friend’s grammar school did but my school didn’t.

Claire

Love animated Charlie here and munching Nick. Nick really needs to ground himself to Charlie here. So very proud and so very nervous at the same time.

Hails

Wait Charlie’s left handed?? How have I never noticed that before?

chloé

it’s likely some time in november now in these pages and application deadlines for non oxbridge are usually late january so he’d definitely be thinking about it but has a little bit of time to actually send them off, unless he’s super prepared and early 😂

❤️❤️❤️

RCM

PRIDE CLUB🌈❤️‍🩹...omg, Charlie Spring, I love to see how you wasted ZERO time in getting your Head Boy goals in action. The list, the plans...it all makes me think about how long Charlie has been dreaming (both in his darker moments, and in his brighter days) of this, "what if we actually had a safe space at school" idea that HE is now making a reality! (and because I live in a state where the government passed a law last year requiring parental permission for students to even go to a school GSA, this means even more to me)! I also love how our sweet Nick is looking at Charlie very similarly to how he looked at him at the Halloween party...with a, "for fuck's sake, could Charlie be any more AMAZING?!" The pride, the awe, the happiness he feels FOR Charlie is there, but, so are the Heartstopper leaves...like a little moment of change is happening, and somewhere in there, Nick feels it. He reaches out to hold on to Charlie, to regain a sense of grounding, and to quieten any rising uncertainty...I think it is really interesting how Nick wraps his hand around Charlie's inner elbow. He clearly doesn't want to interrupt Charlie or even get his attention in order to contribute to the conversation. He has that little rising sensation of anxiety and fear, and (subconsciously) reaches for his person. No one else may even notice that Nick is "clingy," or if they do, they will likely laugh it off as "you two cannot keep your hands off each other, can you?" But, we know it's not that...I just don't know how long until Nick knows that too💔

Allegra2346

I wonder if now that Charlie’s head boy he’ll start to see a few more openly queer people around truham? Maybe we’ll get to see a couple of baby gays holding hands in the corridors too 🥹

Charlie is left handed which makes sense because he’s very creative!!☺️😊🥰🫶🏻☀️🌼🎶🎵🥁💭😃🌈📚✌️🕊️☮️

I love this so much! It makes me think of Loveless and the importance of having a 🏳️‍🌈group in changing the environment and the expectations set (more welcoming and belonging and less isolation and bullying)❤️✨

Charlie’s gonna do so much good
