i agree with this. the one thing about getting daily pages rather than sections is that we build up the next installment in our heads as something equally as dramatic (or at least i do). last page was very “superhero charlie coming to the rescue” but heartstopper is again, rooted in reality, even as a comic, so this makes the most sense as a resolution to this conflict

So many details - those little slash marks on the wall (as if the school building itself is tainted now), Charlie looks enormous next to our little guy, the bullies look like complete knobs and the word "run" just conveying their oblivious immaturity but the dangerous enjoyment they take in the bullying, Charlie so caring, our little guy so overwhelmed and sweating, the stress and anxiety poster on the wall shouting what the school priority and safety concern is supposed to be - something Charlie is likely to share with the head admin...but may also be weighing down his thoughts about Nick ❤️‍🩹.

This could go in several directions — they may have been bullying him and calling him gay, but the kid may be so far away from being ready to be out or even admit it to himself, he may be just as scared of being seen with/defended by Charlie as he was of the bullies. If he is Year 7, he can’t be more than 12, and not every kid has parents who were as accepting as Charlie’s were. There’s so many emotions that can be at play here…

Full circle moment, here. Charlie is now the hero and savior. There is no student more equipped to handle this situation than the Head Boy voted in as the law of the land by 82% of his peers. Hopefully Char will seek out this poor young fella to insure him he is not alone and will be safe. Being from the USA, I am not familiar with the Head Boy role. Does the Head Boy report these students to the Head Teacher or will he handle these bullies on his own or with his bully patrol team?

Thank you for the reminder from Charlie Spring that even a strong "HEY." can make a huge difference in changing the course of bullies...I kept thinking all yesterday about the older student's awful grip on our new younger friend, and have never been happier to see those three RUN today (although I do wish they would have tripped on something in the corridor because karma, but I digress)...and I love the way there is still a separation of the panels between Charlie and the younger student, subtly showing the elevated position our new year 7 sees Charlie (I mean the stars in his eyes and little blush on his face are precious....and are likely a mixture of recovering from what just happened and also a flushing that "the HEAD BOY who OPENLY HOLDS HANDS with the RUGBY CAPTAIN just stopped those bullies and OMG, he is talking to ME right now!" I can only imagine the range of emotions in this kiddo's mind and heart right now, and am pretty sure they all coalesced to a "gotta get out of here now because this is all too much!" moment....and away he goes, with his feet patting (not angry, not scared, just overwhelmed) and all that mix of emotion is captured in the doodles around his head, slowly escaping with each step. This leaves Charlie next to the STRESS and ANXIETY posters, a bit perplexed (but likely so understanding) of the younger student's sudden need for space (because who wants to almost cry in front of the hot Head Boy?!) While part of me (selfishly) wants Charlie to briefly relish that he is so admired (you are a a HOTTY, Charlie) by the younger students, (it wasn't that long ago that he first was able to wear short sleeves in public!), but because of the ongoing hard work he has done on himself, his mind and heart are currently focused on way bigger than him things. I hope that he is going to be reinvigorated and refocused on his application for Pride Club... as he again sees the need and importance for a place with open and safe student discussions on topics like self-worth and mutual respect and validated feelings and consent, all through a queer lens, where resources and support are readily available and shared, and where school-wide anti-bullying campaigns and LGBTQIA+ and allied education can happen. Charlie knows it would have mattered to him as a younger student, and with every PAT PAT PAT he hears in the hallway, he knows it will matter to his new friend as well...

Is this full circle from what Charlie says in 'Nick and Charlie'? Love that. This is such a brilliantly drawn page though. The expressions on all the faces -- the bullies, but especially Charlie's anger and indignation. Plus, you can really see the stress and emotion in the younger boy's face. Then of course the ultimate in irony that this incident is taking place directly beside a Personal, Social and Health Education notice board about Anxiety and Stress. What a well designed page.

Oh my gosh! I have mixed feelings here. Of course Charlie stopped the situation for getting worse in this moment for this little guy, but the bullies are leaving laughing and do not seem intimidated at all. They just don’t want to get in trouble and run off. I cannot help but feeling that it must be hurting Charlie’s feelings. I know from Alice’s comments that we will see a talk with this little chap and Charlie, but I am really concerned about Charlie not being taken seriously by these young bullies, and them being mean to our sweet boy in his back.

I love this so much. In High School, I used to charge into groups of people picking on kids and threaten them with the fencing team (all empty threats). I would check on the kids as well. I hate seeing people be picked on. It is one of my big pet peeves. There was a girl who was nice to my brother after I graduated because I stopped a group of girls from picking on her and would check in on her. I had a reputation for doing that--stopping the bullies. Anyway, this is just a long winded way of saying that I can emphasize with Charlie here and am super proud of him!

Jus thought of this. In the previous page, we saw Aled say that Nick was the "knight in shining armor" for Charlie. I don't agree 100% with that but now we see Charlie being that for this young boy.
