charlieee 😭😭 he definitely did his best

Irem7

My boys🥹♥️

Shin__

Charlito, Don’t beat yourself! You helped the little boy, he will be forever grateful 🩷

Merel

Their reflection in the mirror omg? Also the full shot of the house is gorgeous.

Leonie

you got him out of that situation charlie!

Nyssa Rawther 🍉

Look at these husbands sharing how their day went and being supportive. This is how it's gonna be in 10 years time except Nick is the one telling Charlie about the kids he's trying to help! 🥰🥰🥰

Beam Bugge

you really did do your best Charlie! don't beat yourself up over this :)

Jomaries Amezaga

Oh Charlie, it’s actually not your work, you can’t be everywhere all the time. 😢

Brittany Cournoyer

Awww, the house looks so pretty and Nick is so supportive. He knows Charlie will beat himself up over this.

Amanda SILVA

Wow! The mirror reflection is art!

Nyssa Rawther 🍉

P.S. I ADORE Charlie's mirror reflection like...LOOK AT THAT SMOL FACE!!!!!

eve

i didn’t realise that was a mirror and i was like damn that’s a weird painting for them to have 😭💀

Victoria Panaro

Of course he did his best! But I can relate to Charlie feeling that he's not doing enough to help . I'm sure he'll find a way to make that student feel better soon 🙂

Charlie

Oh Charlie. Please don’t start taking on everyone else’s problems. Please learn where your job role starts and finishes. Empathy is one thing, but it’s not your responsibility to fix everything. The are adults at the school!!

Merel

Does Nick have a new coat? (Focusing on the important things here, I know)

Merel

You did your best ❤️

Elena

Of course you helped a lot Charlie!! 🥹

Chloe ♡

charlie you did help you stopped it and asked if he was ok!! compared to everyone else who just ignored the situation…

Barb

The way they confide in each other🫶🏻

Katie H

I wish Charlie wasn't so hard on himself and not beat himself up over this, he still did help the boy and he can't be everywhere all of the time, but I guess he's feeling like he's not doing enough to help

Clemence

Oh, as strong as Charlie is, feeling responsible for kids being bullied is such a huge weight on a boy’s shoulders. He cares and I’m sure the young boy knows ♥️

Loveislove

I forgot we were still in Christmas time mode. Well, at least that means there will be upcoming lovely moments 😊 🥰

Dionne Lakey

I feel like Charlie will need to make an example of the bullies. He can probably identify them and ask the other prefects and people he's enlisted in his quest to to change the bulling culture, to keep an eye on them and reprimand them. Zero tolerance for bullying and bullying being socially unacceptable at Truham can be something they can enstil enmasse or by brainstorming methods. This was our role as the prefect body in our school. We were to be the eyes and ears on the student body where the staff has little time to pay enough attention. We were there for the students to ask for support and to be delegated to by the Head Student so no one felt overwhelmed.

Elfi

Is it christmas time already?

Larisa

Baby, you can't be everywhere all the time ❤️ You did what you could ❤️

Katrina

The house looks amazing!! I love their reflections in the mirror!!!!! I love how Nick is being so supportive because Charlie will beat himself up over this and he tried his best because he did more than any other student he at least stopped them and asked if he was okay but maybe he can use this as an example of why the school needs a safe space. This whole page is a work of art Alice I love this page so much! This really shows their future because they talk about their days and actually communicate I love them sm I also see the time jump leaves are back ❤️👀

Justin S.

I love these panels

Nikki

Really hope Charlie doesn’t spiral about the encounter with that student. He’s already done more than anybody else did 🫶

Beam Bugge

also are they at nick's or charlie's house, can anyone tell? haha

Tina

what month are we in? are we still in november? or already in the new year?

Merel

Are they at Nick's or at Charlie's house? I feel like we haven't seen the exterior of their houses since Volume 1 but I could be wrong

Loveislove

Seeing them coming home at the end of the day and talking over events, sharing feelings and giving support. It really does give a window into their future. I know they have a journey to get there but they have a lot of important tools, emotions and skills already - listening, empathy, respect and love. This scene reminds me of the mini comic Alice drew of Nick coming home from work at Christmas to Charlie's kiss 🥰🎄

Maisie

I think that’s Nick’s house! Because we saw the exterior of it when they came home from the summer fete in volume 5!

Ulises

That’s right Charlie you did your best. You probably helped him more ways than you think. Nobody was there to help you from the bullies but you were there to help him and even though he ran away he’s probably super grateful that somebody was there to stop them so to him you’re probably a hero and he’s gonna be looking up to you ❤️

Bugtocos09

It’s gotta be the same month no? Cus it shows Charlie talking to Nick about his encounter with the boy seems like something he’d tell Nick the same day

arlo🧞

you did your best charlie it’s okay , i bet he will get another chance to talk to the boy 💚

Merel

@Maisie ah yeah I think you're right! I was confused because I'm currently rereading Volume 1 and the exterior of Nick's house during the snow day is totally different from here + the Springs have a big square mirror in the hall

ACxo

Charlie I bet you helped that boy more then you realize

Kristen

Charlie! You stopped it and obviously, those bullies were scared because they ran! He knows you are there now and willing to step up! Plus…you can’t be everywhere all at once babe! 😍🍂

Elena

How old is a year 7 in the UK? 🤔

Frances

For a second I thought there was a giant picture of N&C on the wall but then i realized it’s just a mirror 🙈😅 And of course you did your best Charlie! Don’t give up, there’ll be another chance!

Nathalie

No it’s Charlie’s, if you go back on page 1132 you’ll see It!

Nathalie

No it’s Charlie’s, if you go back on page 1132 you’ll see It!

Claire

Love the shading on this page and seeing them drawn reflected in the mirror. (I think I need Charlie's scarf too!) 😍 Charlie did get there in time in the sense that the younger boy would know he had someone to turn to for support if and when he felt ready. Glad to see the boys talking it through here. Nick does look very worried though -- it feels like any stress to Charlie is really getting to him.

Fey 🍂

Is it Nick’s house or Charlie’s? It looks like Charlie’s house because of the window, though 🤔

Merel

Haha thanks for clearing it up, I was already rifling through my Heartstopper books trying to figure it out 😂

Enara M

a lot of people didn’t do anything!! so that is definitely something

Loveislove

I am thinking these are some mini time jump leaves - the bullying incident must have been the same day no? And what about the whole sandwich mess? Is all that one day? Ahhh - are we the only ones living one page at a time? Has it been weeks since Charlie went over to Nick's house?

Evergreen

Leave it to Charlie to feel like he didn’t do enough after he literally sent the bullies running. 💚

Evergreen

Also the background art on this page looks so relaxed and comfortable with itself. So precise and clear, but with that appearance of effortlessness you only get after spending an expert-level of hours at your craft. I hope you feel proud of the work you’ve put in to get to this point, Alice!

Jeffrey Ricker

This is such a beautiful page! The transition from the prior scene is just lovely.

Brittany Cournoyer

Alice, big ask, but can you do a mini comic of them celebrating their anniversary?! I envision it being sweet and a little corny and a whole lot of “why are we like this?”

Molly Goat

I am so impressed with the illustration of them in the mirror behind them. That's amazing. ❤️✨

Noemiette

But he did help. He might have not been able to prevent it, but he cut it short and signalled to that little boy that there was someone looking out for him, that he wasnt alone. His action + his head boy speech that this boy heard and probably remembers clearly, are gonna stay in his head. Words + action. And I'm sure Charlie will try to reach out to this kid again.

Jo Mary

Aww bless Charlie. 🩵

oddtree

I think they call kindergarten "year 1" so "year 7" is 6th grade

Lolli98

Charlie, please stop critizising yourself. You can't be everywhere all the time to prevent all the bullying at this school! The next topic should be:" Nick, why did you ran away like a maniac to buy me a sandwich?!".

Ariel

Charlie - you did your best! You cannot be everywhere at one time, and there will be more opportunities! Listen to your boyfriend❤️🍂

Overlord

Ahhh no page tomorrow sobs 😭🙏

Maddy

I'm sensing a conversation coming up about Nick.

Tina

it's the same day yes, i just didn't know what day in general these scenes were in

Claudine

In a split second i had mistaken the mirror for a picture of them and i knew that you just couldn't be true 😬

Ana Alicia Aranda De Contreras

You helped a lot Charlie, if you didn't arrive something else could have happened but when they saw you they left him in peace and that small effort was worth it🥺💗

ucfnurse

Yes you did your best!!☺️😊👍🫂💞💖🌟🌷🌈✌️🕊️☮️

Hunter

Kid will be happy that someone stepped in at all. Do hope we find out his name

Flavia Morlacci ☾𖤓

Charlie did the best he could. I'm sure the kid was happy that someone helped him, he was just scared to say something back

David C Witkin

Yep. Charlie's inner fire has been lit. Bullies of Truham, look out!

E

Did the Springs get a new front door? 😜

Robert

It really is about time they shared. Charlie needs Nicks advice and help with his problem and Nick really needs to talk to Charlie.

Jennifer Paddock

Gorgeous page! Love the full page portrait of Charlie's house and the boys walking up with the panels superimposed. And, oh Charlie, someday you'll tell the story of LGB (Little Glasses Boy) as your first triumph as Head Boy. ❤️ Once you learn his name and get to speak to him, you'll see. Plus you are solidly his biggest hero now - even if he can't articulate it yet! 😆

Scott Whittall

Oh, the mirror reflection in the last panel is awesome! The gray washed tones reflecting Charlie's glum mood. Alice you are publishing pages so quickly and with such brilliant detail. Such a thrill being allowed to witness your process.

CinD

Just knowing someone cared enough to step in and ask how you are doing is a MAJOR help btw 🙌🏽

Neenie

1696 is a fun number

Loveislove

I wonder how they decide whose house to go to after school. Does going to Charlie's house automatically mean no hanky panky? Not that going to Nick's automatically means hanky pinky...unless it does ✨️⭐️

Brittney

Aww Charlie, don't you worry. There's always going to be more times when you stand up for them

ChronoBio

You did good Charlie.

RCM

Not Charlie second guessing himself...but that IS something that all good leaders will do. What I think Charlie most would like is a conversation with our younger student to be able to hear what actually happened and maybe even what the student felt (um, like, everything!) when he patted away so abruptly...so Head Boy Charlie can really know how to effect change at Truham (because it's coming, I can feel it!). Charlie IS carrying of lot of responsibility on himself for that student (whom I suspect he relates to from his past experiences on top of taking his Head Boy stance against bullying very seriously). It's a lot and I am so glad he is talking about it with Nick. But, then... we have that MIRROR image of them, which is masterfully done as an almost timeless reflection of them because can't you just see this same image in 10, 20, 30 years...AND it's also like a reverse glimpse and play of their current conversation. WITHIN this mirrored image, I can see a NICK who also doubts himself and whether or not he could have/should have done more for like, his whole life?! I see the Nick who has carried the responsibility of protecting/supporting Charlie (out of love and by HIS choice, a choice he would make 1,000 times over again, but also one where now that Charlie is in a healthier place and thriving, Nick is having trouble letting his worry and need to be protective go); I can see the young NICK who carried and internalized the weight and trauma of his father constantly letting him down; I can see our current NICK who somehow always has to become the bigger person when dealing with his asshole brother, I can see all these versions of Nick telling Charlie, "And, I didn't get there in time...I'm not doing a good job because I still feel lost...I'm actually really struggling right now," to which (mirror) Charlie would reassure, "Nick, you did your best, you are doing your best, but, maybe it's time to be your best to yourself for awhile...let's talk about this..." But he can't. They can't talk, not yet anyways. It is not reality because Nick cannot admit his struggles to himself, let alone really (specifically) voice them aloud, even to Charlie. (and I get where Nick is right now...it's so hard to open up those wounds you've buried so deeply you kind of forget they are there). So it remains just a FLEETING image in a mirror, a brief reminder to us of what is building inside Nick, like one of those magic mirrors in fairy tales that reveals the truth, if you let it. SIGH. Maybe Charlie sorting out his feelings will help Nick see these parallels and start to sort out his (it's coming, I just don't know when...)

Murgy

Charlie, you were there and while you may not feel like you've helped, it's likely you have. There is a chance in the future you will either be more alert, or the kid will come to you for help, seeing as you checked in on him afterwards. It might not feel like a win right now, but it might very well lead to greater support for the kid and quite possibly your group.

Katie🐝

This is a gorgeous page omg (also ☹️)

Daya
