First panel is sad, depressing, and scary all over again. Geoff said that there would be good days and bad days. Char has been so worried about what's up with Nick, he is internalizing his angst. Possibly an upcoming therapy session is called for? Maybe Char can confide in Geoff about what is going on with Nick and why Char is relapsing??? Interesting segue from a mental health backslide, to a happy holiday moment with the band. Extremely mixed emotions on page 1715....🫥

I hope Charlie is eating despite his struggle. Anorexia will always be there, but Charle can be strong and keep with the plan in difficult times. That can be a good example for Nick and encourage him to talk about his struggles.

Hey Alice! Drummer here - if you are able, I'd add tripods to the base of the cymbal stands Nick is holding which keeps them balanced on the ground. The hi-hat stand he's holding in his left hand should have a foot pedal on it as well. Keep up the amazing work!!!

That first panel...I can't quit looking at it...because it feels like all the layers of Charlie's journey are captured there. We have the wide perspective of a centrally seated Charlie alone in the kitchen, showing that while he has so much support, it's his personal journey to take. The edges of this panel have the dark shading which reflect his darkest times when he was bullied and in a really awful place...these memories are still there, but here (and in his journey), they are being pushed back and replaced by a circle of light, of hope, of joy, which signifies the hard work he has put and continues to put in on himself. It's where we have most recently seen Charlie absolutely thriving in his Head Boy/barista/drummer/happily partnered sparkly era. Then, those the dark dots circling all around Charlie represent the way non-linear recovery pattern happens, showing there WILL BE challenges and choices and setbacks, just less often and (hopefully) less intense. I love though that those dark blotchy spots don't actually cover or touch Charlie making me think they aren't taking him completely over. And, the choice of drawing Charlie only in his white shirt sans sweater gives the visual that the light and hope and resiliency are still there, even if he has a setback. SO realistic, and such a beautiful rendering of the ebbs and flows of mental health journeys. Damn, Alice. And OMG a Christmas concert by Queer Intentions?! Sign me up! The pub looks so cozy, and I again appreciate the realistic viewpoint that people can be really happy and hurting at the same time...and I love seeing Nick and Charlie look at each other in the bottom panel in that so precious and adorable Nick and Charlie way they have...it's a journey, remember? Have fun, boys!

It is lovely to see Charlie and Nick happy together but it really is putting off the eventual day and could see them both crash if they don't get round to talking to each other. Clearly Charlie is having a problem which is caused by his worries about Nick and Nick is worried about leaving Charlie when he goes to uni. How and when is this all going to come to ahead? Brilliant writing as usual Alice and really keeping us on our toes.

Yeah, you woulnd't really transport them all assembled like that. The hardware of a drum kit all collapses down and cymbals would most likely all be together in a bag/case - they're the most valuable part of a drum kit! Wouldn't look very interesting though, so I get it. :)

Haha it's actually pretty normal to have to carry around your own drumset in my experience! But usually drummers have carrying cases for the drums and cymbals. Usually the only instrument that is already in the venue is a piano :) But I agree that Nick helping carry in Charlie's drums is SO adorable🥺😍

Love this page, but whew, it’s another emotional rollercoaster! It’s so hard to see Charlie struggling, but so realistic too. He has the tools to deal with it now, so let’s hope he uses them! I’m so happy to see Charlie is still playing with the band and that they’re playing gigs. And Nick helping carry his drum set is so adorable. 💕 I’m a little nervous about Alice’s comment that the Green Dragon has thematic relevance to what’s about to happen though. 👀 🫣

I just realized Charlie probably hasn’t told Nick about how he is feeling lately because he sees Nick keeping his problems in and doesn’t want to add to that. 👀 Relationships are so tricky it’s not about taking turns of who gets to have ‘problems’ one at a time. You have to be there for each other equally. Two people can be going through bad moments in life at the same time. Maybe this concert will kick start some more communication.

It's so sad seeing Charlie struggling and having those dark clouds over him again😭 And he probably doesn't want to tell Nick because he knows that Nick is already struggling.. i'm feeling like we're in for an emotional rollercoaster now that they're both struggling.. - I'm happy to see that Charlie is playing in band again!❤️

Ooo, I hadn’t caught that. Clarifying a little more about why Nick is holding back. The little time he gets with Charlie he likely wants to enjoy and escape his inner jumble of thoughts. Also Charlie’s ED is about control and too many plates spinning all at once can be overwhelming. Because they are good things this time Charlie might not have caught on how too much even good things can be overwhelming and impacting him negatively.

I don't think that Charlie is in the best place, but I still think that if he talked about it with Geoff, it would help a lot . I think he has the tools to do that, and honestly, at the moment, sadly, his best option isn't to confide in Nick. I think he is feeling his feelings about eating, but also aknowledging more that it is happening and is pushing through. Like in that big expansive room, there is sadness, but also happiness, and him knowing he can get through it. Hopefully he will discuss it with Geoff soon. Then maybe together, they can decide how to bring it up with Nick in a way that is healthy for both him and Nick. And I was feeling good about the Queer Intentions concert, but after reading the comments, a little worried, but it may be neccessary. (I am glad we know they are end game, lol.). So I guess the other option is to not have the most healthy fight. But that may not be the worst thing.

I don't think it is a full relaspe, but more a realization that what Nick is going through isn't helping matters and I think he is stressed on multiple levels, not just because of Nick. I also think if Nick found out, he would just shutdown and double down on the caregiving role. I think it would be better for Charlie to discuss everything with Geoff, and then bring it to Nick, in a way that shows that it doesn't mean that Nick needs to just hover over Charlie.

It's significant that Charlie has had something of a "relapse" of his ED on the anniversary of his release from treatment. For many people in recovery, whether from ED or addiction, etc, anniversary dates are especially hard times to stay "clean" or "sober" as it were, and Charlie is no different. He may need to check in with Geoff, and soon. Also: LOVE the Green Dragon not only as LOTR reference, but also as reference to the neighborhood around Truham as a Shire of sorts, and the Paris Squad as a Fellowship.

I hope Charlie isn't in a spiral, but worry about Nick and the stresses of head boy and having his plan for an LGBT+ social group being shot down will certainly be making him more stressed, making it more likely that he could spiral, but he has support in place that will hopefully help him not spiral. And its nice to see that Queer Intentions hasn't fallen to the side thanks to the head boy role and school work, and is actually continuing to get out and about with the occasional performance, which is a good sign for Charlie's confidence. Though whether the show makes Nick feel isolated due to this being a Charlie thing he's not involved with remains to be seen. And I might have forgotten to post originally because I got distracted by remembering Edgar the John Lewis Christmas Dragon from a few years ago and looked up the advert rather than pressing send on the comment. Likely not an intended reaction but hey ho...

Cymbals stand could have the legs folded for transport and IIRC the foot pedal on the hi hat can be removed for transport as well. Source: Way too many years of moving drum kits for band members...

In my personal experience the hi hat foot pedal is always attached to the stand. It can come out of its usual bracket for easier storage but yeah it’s gotta always be attached :)
