I mean, it's soo relatable that Nick feels jealous right now, with all that happend: Tao & Elle's argument, Nicks insecurities, trauma he got from his parents arguing and his dad not letting him feel his emotions and leaving him in the end and him still not being really interested in Nicks life now, the uni decision, that leads to leaving Charlie behind, that maybe feels a bit similar to what his father did to him, even if it's definitely not, worries that charlie might struggle with his eating disorders again and he won't be near him to help him, now the fear that Charlie maybe might want to have more experiences. + Nick wants to protect him from dickheads and he loves his hot boyfriend so much + he's so drunk! there’s never been a time where nick was or felt compelled to be possessive of charlie, but rn the copious amounts of alcohol and insecurities bubbling to the surface will manifest into something that he will surely regret. if that IS nick grabbing charlie (rather aggressively), i’m worried for the fallout and the potential triggers from that. or nick yelling at that guy (charlie is ALSO missing the context that nick had already talked to him inside), then that too is a bad look. either way, he needs to calm down and go home.

Alice, I’m curious if you sketch out the full scene in these wavy panels before you decide which sections to zoom in on. They’re so fantastically done, and the wavy panels really put us in Nick’s perspective, but I imagine it’s tricky figuring out where to direct our eye. (I love the way that fourth panel gets even wobblier when Nick is angry.) Another (painfully) good page.

This issue hasn’t come up for them yet, so it’s possible Nick will want to kick his ass AND Charlie will inform Nick that he is perfectly capable of fending off unwelcome advances. This is a great lesson opportunity for them as a couple. Could lead to conflict but also to an important discussion and boundary.

I also struggled to figure this out, but after studying it, I think he might have wrapped his arm around Charlie’s shoulders, which would make his hand face that way. Charlie probably did see him, but it would’ve been quick and it’s just Nick’s perspective here.

If we were only dating, something like this might cause me to walk. Literally regardless of what happens in the next panel, that grab alone would have been enough for me. That drummer Charlie is so fit and cute and has the nicest smile...I'll just keep scootching in a little closer and see how this goes...see what vibe I get because you never know...." Charlie: "God, I am so tired. This random fan seemed pretty nice but something feels off here and he keeps moving a little closer to me (takes step back and folds his arms)...wonder if we are really done loading, and I REALLY want to find Nick and just go home. I hope he has had fun, too, and isn't too drunk...maybe he's just tipsy enough; gah, this guy won't shut up...I'll let him finish this last sentence then I am so going back inside to find Nick." Nick: hiccup, stumble, brain all tangled and woozy and tired and past the point where he can recognize that he shouldn't drink anymore, but finally finding the door that leads to Charlie: "I'm---tired---I'm sad, no, I can't be sad, not really, I'm at a pub, and pubs are fun, right? (hiccup); what did those people just say...that Charlie and I are missing out..missing out on what, my ass, ha, ha, we are fine!...I love him so much. And Tao and Elle, they seem mad but they just need to be like me and Char and see they have each other, and need love and talking...and it will be okay...(sips beer, stumbles all the way out the door)...I mean, fighting leads to breaking up, right, like mum and dad fought, and...sigh...(sip) Right, at least Charlie and I don't fight, I don't like fighting at all... I like Charlie, where IS Charlie...is there rugby tomorrow, is it already tomorrow, (sip) it doesn't matter, it's fine, I'm fine, I'll be fine..." looks up and sees THE GUY talking to Charlie...but literally doesn't SEE Charlie at all, just REACTS (stomp stomp) because all of his senses, including his normally functioning impulse control and clear decision makings skills are totally impaired leading to ( I'm suspecting) very poor judgment time with a "WTF? no, no, no no!" UNKNOWN/UNSEEN/UNSPOKEN: Charlie: giving all the signals to New Guy that he is SO not interested. Handling the situation on his own perfectly capable terms, nicely yet steadily. Has no idea about the conversation NEW GUY and his sidekick had with Nick that has built such worry in Nick. Sober and confident and in no need of being "claimed" or "rescued." Nick: too inebriated to pick up on the "this isn't happening" signals that Charlie is clearly giving New Guy, panicking despite a controlled situation, and essentially claiming Charlie who currently doesn't need or want protecting or claiming (because that is not how Nick and Charlie work...thus far)...Nick's action has an unintended implication that Charlie is incapable, too fragile , and not trustworthy enough to reject New Guy. Sweet Nick hangs onto Charlie possessively, and we know it's out of pure fear and anxiety, but to Charlie, it must feel like he is marking his territory...poor Nick, all the unspoken fears and uncertainties he has been avoiding are coming to a very misdirected point...goodness, in just the last 1/2 hour alone, Nick has gone through it ALL with no clarity, no recharge, no support...and at base level, it looks to him like New Guy is about to take his Charlie away (GRABS Charlie)... New Guy: reading the room, well, hmmm, this should be interesting...

Don’t know about the UK, but in the US bartenders are definitely allowed to refuse to serve a person who has turned the corner from “fun drunk” to “problem drunk.” But at this point we’re really the only people who know that Nick is “problem drunk,” since most of the problems are happening inside his head. A bartender definitely wouldn’t just count drinks for someone and arbitrarily cut them off, since different people hold their liquor differently. So I think you’re right that no one would have cut him off yet.

Well - I'm hoping we are about to hit rock bottom for Nick. This is months of misery for Nick with no breakthrough. And hoping Charlie remembers that Nick saw him at his rock bottom and they became stronger. Charlie may be justified in losing patience with Nick this evening, even if as temporarily as Nick did with him after their fight over food. I hope that Nick can finally begin to process and express what is troubling him. I'm definitely ready for some joy.

I know everyone has a lot going on this evening but it makes me kind of sad that no one is looking out for Nick. Charlie could have asked him to help pack up when he saw he was drinking too much to subtly remove him from the pub and we could have avoided the whole mess. Tara wanted to know where Charlie was when Nick was becoming loud and anxious but didn't mention anything to Charlie when she saw him. If she had, it may have softened Charlie and prevented the fight Nick and Charlie may be about to have. And Aled? Or rugby lads - did we not see Nick ordering yet another drink?

Hmmm... I notice something. You see I feel like the group doesn't really treat Nick the same or at least treat him slightly differently. If Nick and Charlie were to swap places here we know that somebody like Tara or Aled would notice how upset and anxious he is but when it came to Nick nobody payed attention. It makes me so sad 😭 It's understandable with Charlie including with his own mental health but people seem to forget that Nick is also going through shit. Nick is head over heels in love with Charlie and I would imagine that past events would left a mark on him. Seeing someone you love so much go through that much pain and struggle can be hard. I honestly hope Nick gets the biggest hug from Charlie. I think Nick needs a reminder that Charlie isn't going anywhere and that Charlie is with him for the long-run. I just want my babies to be happyyyy 😭

I do think it was similar when charlie first started going through his eating disorder where everyone was kind of busy with their own things and didn't really pick up on it. He also doesn't really seem to accept it, his rugby friends tried to reach him but he seems so walled up in his misery. I can't wait for him to start therapy and start working on all These feelings and until then to get the biggest hug from Charlie
