Feeling this emoji for many of the recent pages: 😬

Nick's not going to punch/physically attack this guy btw. This guy is flirting with a boy he knows is in a relationship, yes, but he's not evil! That being said, Nick's temper is certainly concerning 😓

Merel

The tempers are running high...

Chris

omg Charlie is not happy at all 😠

Fenna Elin

Why is Charlie mad at Nick 😭🙏

lia

the way i fully gasped

lia

oh god nick’s definitely going to do something he’ll regret later

aaron slater

i physically got tense at this one thanks alice

Audrina

Uh oh 😬

aeonoir

He’s not evil but he is a prick

Gracie

At least he knows violence isn’t the answer 🤣 I feel a fight coming tho…

Charlotte Savakis

I think Charlie will pull him away from Nick punching him

Merel

Charlie's face in the fourth panel speaks volumes. He's probably annoyed Nick is trying to 'save' him from this situation, but there's also concern in his features. Why is his boyfriend acting like this? They need to have a proper conversation once Nick has sobered up a bit. Escalating the situation will only lead to trouble right now.

ACxo

The facial expression on Charlie’s face…

Pato Ferguson

Uh oh, Charlie's face is not a good sign

Bugtocos09

I feel like this is the first I’ve seen such angry expressions on nick

lucas

🫣🫣🫣🫣🫣

Katrina

Oh boy the tension I don’t know how to feel about that neck kiss. It seems like a possessive one so if that’s the case then Nick no! But I also dont want to assume the worst of that kiss but in this context it is probably a possessive one 😭

Beth L-A

The speed in which I clicked the notification when it popped up on my phone is nobody’s business 😩😭🤣🙈

Jodie KH

My nerves 😂 oh dear, can these two please talk? 😭

Molly Goat

EVERYONE AND BY EVERYONE I MEAN NICK AND CHARLIE, GO HOME, SOBER UP, AND THEN HAVE A CONVERSATION TOMORROW WHEN NO ONE HAS RECENTLU CONSUMED ALCOHOL.

Jaynie

Ohhhh dear 🫣

ashley ✨

oh nick please walk away

April

I was worried for a second but It's still "Heartstopper" and I'm so grateful for that 🩷🍂

Ava

😬😬😬

Barb

This guy's eyes lie😐...

emily

oh god

ACxo

Nick needs to realize that Charlie can handle himself. Yes he’s drunk at the moment and nervous about leaving for uni, but Charlie’s grown up now and can stick up for himself he doesn’t need Nick to be all protective 24:7

Jaynie

I'm looking forward to them making up already can we skip to that part 🙈

Hayden

Charlie getting mad…

Katrin

I'm so scared, I don't know what to say... 🫣

Loveislove

Ok - we can rule out violence. Thank you Alice for stopping us losing our shit on that point... now about that fight between Nick and Charlie...?

val

oh charlie is definitely not a big fan of whatever is happening right now😀

Liz

That boys smug face. What a sh*t. 🤷🏼‍♀️. Nick. It’s okay. You’re it for Charlie!!!

KrappyKoko

the way nick is gripping the bottle makes me think it’ll be shattered over his head soon 👀

Nyssa Rawther 🍉

Okay but if Charlie knew that this guy and his friend were talking all that shit to Nick earlier and now he's out here obviously chatting Charlie up, he'd be angry at the guy instead. Cuz that's a real shitty thing to do. C'mon, Narlie. Work this out! I believe in you!

Mara

Protective, short tempered, and VERY drunk This will be fun..!

Hollyh

I’m thinking it’s probs because Nick has had to much to drink and he is having a bad mental health period which is leading to him being over protective a bit aggressive and full of anxiety… I went to an Alice Oseman and event in Edinburgh/Glasgow and she said that Nick will probably go to therapy in vol 6 so I’m thinking all this anxiety will be the reason for him to get some professional help

Samantha

To be fair Charlie doesn't know about the very rude conversation Charlie had with this guy inside the bar.

Loveislove

Twat boy - mission fulfilled. No need to see you ever again. Go look up Ben Hope.

Brynn Rabinowitz

😶‍🌫️😬🫣oh, no. Charlie looks mad. This may not end well.

Ellie

Charlie is not happy…

Alyse Nicole

Because from his perspective this guy WAS just asking him about the drums and talking about how he wanted to learn. And here comes Nick seemingly out of the blue accusing this guy of flirting with him, kissing Charlie like he’s marking his territory, and he’s super drunk. It’s very unwarranted from Charlie’s POV honestly. I’d be pissed off too.

Luke

I just want this night to be over! 😬

Kela87

Can we though? I mean Nick is holding that bottle pretty tight 🫣

Charlotte le Chaton

I think Nick is just terribly afraid of losing Charlie 😔

Elena

Oh they are angry 🫣

Carlos Artur

I was waiting so much for a scene like this...❤️❤️❤️

olli

charlie not knowing the full backstory for nick's reaction scares me

Bloomin’ smol cuppa

Hmmmm flirting with someone you know is taken- is a tiny bit evil. It doesn’t make him a nice person.

Loveislove

Yeah - the life span of the bottle may be shortened but that's enough drinking for Nick.

Crow_pose24

I am very concerned about Nick, he is like a bomb ready to explode...

Nikki

Ooh the wobbly edges to the panel and the fact I don’t remember seeing both Nick and Charlie this angry at the same time before makes me nervous. Nick’s temper is really catching up with him for what feels like the first time ever. Loving the art these past few pages, the expressions are really expressing and they’re looking so grown up!

Ali Michelle

Nick, not ANOTHER beer 🤢😵‍💫🫨

Lorna O’Neill

Oh dear 😟 I am glad Nick isn't going to punch or physically attack the guy because that wouldn't really be good for anyone involved but I really do hate this guy he's such an asshole! Also I don't like seeing our boys with mad faces 😫 Charlie's face in the 4th panel is so upsetting because you just know they're going to end up having an argument about this!

Elity

Oh, Nick. 😔

Ann-Marie Still

I'm getting popcorn in for the next instalment 🍿 I know they should go home and sober up, but our boys need these interactions. It's how they deal with the fallout that will cement their relationship. And if/when a similar situation arises, they'll be better prepared

Robby C

Thank you Alice for letting us know Nick isn't going to punch the guy...it would be out of character... Even for drunk Nick!

Jomaries Amezaga

1. I’d be pissed if I were Nick because he knows that the guy knows that Charlie has a boyfriend. 2. I’d be pissed if I were Charlie because I don’t know why Nick is acting like this, the guy is just making conversation. Charlie doesn’t know what Nick knows. 3. The guy is not doing anything but he’s not that innocent. 4. Please, boys, behave! 5. I have Nick in my heart. 😔 There is so much happening inside his head right now.

Charlotte le Chaton

I think Charlie might have reacted differently if he would have noticed how rude this guy was to Nick

Maddy

Hey Alice... I'm scared

Bloomin’ smol cuppa

Saying that though- Charlie literally says he would beat a guy up when Nick goes off to college- for trying to get with Nick. 😩😂 so I mean- the reasoning why the anger is here is validated. It’s just that neither have the full context.

Dippity_Dip

Oh my god the possessive kissing him on the neck, nick no😭

Diana

I love how Alice gives us the soothing reassurance we all need: "don't worry, Nick isn't going to assault him". She knows us so well.

Bugtocos09

Yeah but he was shouting here you can really see his angry facial expressions really well

Jo

Those smug eyebrows, I can't.

Juliana Barhorst

I’d never think Nick would ever resort to violence! But something tells me he’s about to have a word or two to say to that guy. Charlie might also be having a stern talking to Nick about everything going on tonight. At least that’s my hope. 🫣😢🙏🏻

Sweegie

Nick, sweetie, please speak to someone instead of bundling everything up.

Charlie

Charlie does not look best pleased. But then he doesn’t have the full story. And Nick is *very* drunk. 🫣

Maddy

Am I still allowed to punch him if Nick won't?

Adrian

🍿 not a good look on Nick but a teaching moment

Justin S.

Is it just me or am I not bothered by Nick's assertiveness here? Yes, I know he's a bit buzzed and full of unresolved emotions that could get out of hand, but...this guy knows what he's doing, yuck

Lorna O’Neill

Was just thinking that guy has such a shit eating grin on his face that I would love to see wiped off!

Carrie Lindley

This is the second time Nick’s repressed feelings have bubbled over into sudden anger (the first time was when his brother came home and simply said he hopes Charlie stays ok). That’s super concerning, honestly. As a partner, it would be an immediate red flag… how long until that anger is directed at a loved one, even if accidentally? I hope they sort this out quickly because I hate the miscommunication here even more than the lack of communication from before. 😬🫣😢

Jo Mary

Oh no Nick don’t do anything you might regret please Charlie you need to get him home. Before anything else happens

Anne Marie

Okay, shoo random dude. Charlie needs to check in with his BF who is clearly not. Doing. Well.

Loveislove

Hopefully this is going to be the turning point for Nick. Once he sees Charlie angry at him and perhaps the fear of losing him becoming something he is causing to happen, he can experience a breakthrough and ask for help. When Nick wakes up tomorrow, I don't know if Charlie will be there but hopefully Sarah will. Reach out Nick.

lia

if only nick had not drank that much and actually managed to open up to charlie, even a little bit, this situation could have been avoided in a better way, at least. i think nick is actually going through a lot and on his case, he’s not really good at expressing his feeling honestly, due to his people pleasing… i really feel sorry for him because same. but charlie’s also worried and, right now, confused as hell. even a bit angry at nick for stepping into this situation like that, because he doesn’t have any context yet. well i would be too for sure. i have no idea of what nick’s gonna say to this guy but we’re definitely into arguing territory and it is STRESSING me out😭

Mike Maxwell

Ok, so yeah this creep deserves Nick's anger and Charlie is unaware of their interaction inside the bar so he's giving Nick that look. I hope Charlie doesn't think he's not allowed to talk to another gay guy like ever because Nick will think he's flirting. A little fun flirting is good for everyone

Nikki

Also I really love/hate how cocky the flirty guy’s eyebrows look in panel 3, they’re so well drawn 😆

Lorna O’Neill

Yes I think we should all be allowed to have a free punch 👊 that way none of our beloved characters have to get their hands dirty 😂 Hate him and his stupid face!

Sophia Furlano

Also with the flashback of his parents fighting a couple pages ago probably alludes to the fact that he’s gonna yell at charlie

Marie

To be honest, when that girl was flirting with Nick, he immediately said he had a boyfriend. But Charlie seems fine with people flirting with him. I hate to say it, but when Charlie was struggling with his mental health, Nick was always there to support him, but when Nick has problems, he ends up dealing with them alone. Everyone is just angry and annoyed at Nick. His possessive behavior isn’t a good thing, but I kinda get it.

JP42

I can understand Charlie’s anger here. Not having your partner trust you enough to be able to handle flirting. Physical affection as a show the way that Nick kissed Charlie also feels awful—like it’s a mark of ownership. I’ve been in these arguments, though I was in Nick’s shoes—struggling because I felt others trying to shove me aside and learning that I needed to trust my partner (now wife!) rather than deal with the flirters myself.

Sheena Markham

I can’t wait until season 4 when we get Kit giving Joe the same look he did when he was jealous of Jonathan Bailey’s character! Kit’s going to act his ass off in this scene and I’m already here for it!

Brandy78

I want to punch this guy so bad! His smug little face is seriously pissing me off!

Bevulio

Even if the guy is flirting with someone he knows has a bf, I do think Nick's behaviour is way worse here. Charlie doesn't need "protecting" from someone flirting with him and will make his own decision to tell the guy to go away, given how switched on he is. This is probably Nick's way of clinging to Charlie as he feels insecure at the moment, which is something most of us have done at that age, but it'll ultimately push Charlie away more because of the jealousy. I just hope Charlie deals with this in the mature way he deals with most situations and Nick learns a lesson here. Such a good story line here, Alice!

JP42

If I remember correctly — wasn’t that dude at college trying to get Nick drunk to get with him? Seemed super predatory.

Carrie Lindley

I don’t think he’s going to yell at Charlie here. Especially with his parents yelling in mind… he wouldn’t want to do anything like that. He’s in protect Charlie mode.

Kristen

I don’t think Charlie realizes he’s being flirted with! He still has self doubt (not as much where Nick is concerned). With the mental health stuff, I think Charlie is trying to give Nick space to tell him what’s going on, in his own time. You can tell he knows something is wrong and is worried about him. These boys…with as great as their communication is, it still needs some work when they get in their own heads! 😍

ACxo

No I agree that neither of them have the full context, I just don’t remember Charlie saying he would beat up a guy?

Theaterboi27

Oooooo, squiggly panels again. Remember Nick...fighting is not the answer. Even though this guy is the biggest kind of lowlife creeper snake. I love the territorial kiss Nick plants on Charlie. The wild anger in his eyes. Charlie goes from puzzled to sweetly shy to pissed in like 30 seconds. Nick, ya gotta tell Char what this vermin said to you inside, then walk away away with your boyfriend. Drunk or not, you are Nick and he is your Charlie now and forever.

Flavia Morlacci ☾𖤓

I understand why Charlie seems so angry, It’s like Nick don’t trust him. i know he’s drunk, so he’s not thinking properly at the moment. If He was sober i’m sure he would have react in another way. I’m not trying to justify Nick. I think Charlie was just being nice, I’m sure he didn’t want to flirt back, you can clearly see his confused expression when they guy approached him

Märta Birkner

I don't think Charlie interprets this as flirting, he doesn't have the context from inside and he has continuously tried to be there for Nick so I don't think this assessment is fair.

Xalek

Oh good it was Nick's hand last time. Poor Char didn't get a chance to extricate himself from this convo, Nick is still jumping in trying to "help" and it's so frustrating. Take your own advice from a few pages back Nicholas!

RyGy

Oh god.

Taco

I agree with what you said at the end, especially understanding Nick’s behavior here, BUT I don’t think you’re being fair to Charlie at all. He’s been so supportive of Nick throughout the entire series. Nick is often choosing to deal with problems alone. I think we’re going to see him opening up to Charlie soon, in another moment of Charlie’s quiet support that’s been so characteristic of him since chapter 1.

Jordan

Nicks literal worst nightmare is losing Charlie and now it’s like it’s flashing before his eyes 😔

Noemiette

While I'm with Charlie here and would hate my partner behaving like that, i love what you are doing here. Breaking down this idea that these characters are perfect, that they always do the right thing and say the right thing, that they are always super mature. And also that mental health issues can also manifest in a little bit nastier way and not just feeling empty and sad (like here with Nick or Charlie in the show snapping at people). We are humans, not machines. We are all capable of doing or saying something bad and it doesnt make us bad people. No one can be perfect. Also, wondering if just like in the flashback where his dad tells him off for crying, he might have some tiny bits of toxic masculinity still inside him put there because of his dad, maybe David too and the boys he used to hang out with. But yeah. I am really enjoying this sequence even if, as someone said, it's like watching a train wreck in slowmo 😅

Elfi

The facial expressions are SO good! I'm actually feeling the tension in my own body again. 😬

Jay Patrick

painful as it is to see rough moments in their relationship, i *love* charlie's Not Having It™ expression -- it's nice to see him recognising the faults in nick's behaviour, esp bc they're a couple that can & will have an adult discussion after this (hopefully with a pint of water and a few hours sleep for nick first) i'm loving this arc 🫶🏻🫶🏻

Xalek

I love that you didn't refer to David as a "loved one" for him. He so isn't so far and probably not for years.

Chantel D

Nick is the one who refuses to talk about his issues despite Charlie asking him to do so and expressing concern for him. Stop trying to make Charlie a villain. What a ridiculous take.

Xalek

We'll dirty ourselves so Nick and Char can remain sweet and lovable innocents.

Ayaki Morimura

I kinda like how Alice made the guy look jerky punchable....the smirk gives me the icky feels...he knows what he's doing vive taunting you and you can't do anything about it.....justifies my feeling atm....I volunteer as tribute in case you need a spare pair of knuckles Nick.

Jess🍂

I can’t watch 🫣

rickettyuncles

It may be Nick staking territory but I still *love* the neck kiss

Theaterboi27

I hope Nick tells Char what that creeper snake said inside the pub. Then Char can go off on rude boy (not Nick). Char should take Nick home to sleep it off. Nick would wake up feeling guilty a bit, but he would now have the courage to spill his feelings to Charlie about all of his insecurities. Wishful thinking I suppose....LOL

lia

charlie has always been supporting of nick when he could. right now, he’s worried about nick, but he’s giving him the space to think about it before opening up. nick’s ending up using the wrong tools to deal with his mental health struggles, such as supressing his emotions through drinking and people pleasing. and i’m not really sure if charlie is aware he’s being flirted with since he doesn’t have the context nick has in this situation, which changes a lot on how charlie could have reacted if he’d known what nick knows about this guy!

toneelspeler

a page of anger all bc of missed moments! if only nick knew charlie had zero response to this guy, if only charlie knew what this guy had said to nick before. but nick's got to trust charlie in this, and i think he normally would without the alcohol. interesting parallel with nick and the girl though and him being very clear on having a boyfriend, and charlie now suddenly with this guy and not (so far) stating the same yet!

Ania W.

I'm waiting for RCM's comment because damn I don't know what I feel today 🫣

RCM

AHHH! Sooooo good....it's all so good! Nick is angry...way angrier than his usual nature (thanks SHOTS), but I LOVE how Charlie doesn't hesitate to reconnect and starts with a soft, "hey, you okay?" That checking in, that 'hey, I SEE you, and I'm here, I'm here' is so Nick and Charlie coded that it makes the world (temporarily) seem to take a pause, too. Nick's lean in to place the sweetest kiss on Charlie's cheek is like a micro recharge for himself, and for them, more than for an "eff you, he's mine, New Guy," display. Even the wavy, chaotic, out of sorts border panels we have been seeing all night (implying Nick's inebriated state and moods) are less intense, less wild here, now that he is with Charlie. It's like Nick's tangled up emotions and brain feel righted and stabilized as he breathes in, breathes out Charlie (although i am betting poor Nick smells like beer, sweet love )...I could sit on that second panel of Nick and Charlie being Nick and Charlie for days!! BUT, then we have the NEW GUY still being smugly optimistic ( I mean, to be fair it IS Charlie Spring he is swooning over so I guess he thinks it's worth the fight?!), and I don't know how Alice did it, but somehow, the facial expression on New Guy looking over his glass along with his "simple not simple" reply conveys two different things...for Charlie, New Guy (aka just a random fan) is saying a (likely) factual thing...Charlie COULD very well have been sharing drumming facts. But for NICK, who is already fired up about the "he's so fit" and the "He's missing out because you aren't good enough" comments, hears the second, hidden meaning as New Guy owns the moment "Charlie was just..." It comes across to Nick as if Nick is in the wrong, that HE is intruding on just a basic conversation here...And, ugh! New Guy's statement really irks me too...he is implying his innocence when Nick knows damn well he has the hots for Charlie...Nick isn't having it. I get it Nick, given what you have been through...but your possessiveness is catching Charlie totally off guard. (Remember he doesn't know about that awful conversation!) The juxtaposition of Charlie's face in the second panel (so content) and the fourth panel (annoyance!) hits painfully hard...it shows the two different experiences our boys have had tonight...and that all the unspoken and unseen things are catching up to them, and New Guy keeps adding to it..."WE were just having a conversation," meaning "US" and not "YOU" too. Nick looks like he could smash the bottle with his bare hands in the last panel...all those pent up anxieties and uncertainties and fears and drunkenness are going into that SQUEEZE...(I have not wanted to turn the page so much yet this entire volume!!!)

Loveislove

I'm seeing the bottle breaking either by Nick dropping or throwing it, douchebag rando revealing his game by offering Charlie a better time with him than his psycho boyfriend that he has been with too long, Charlie defending Nick and getting rid of twat boy forcefully... but...turning some wrath into Nick...😬

rickettyuncles

Also, WHAT drumming tips?! “You could learn”?! This guy is trying to stir up trouble. Grrrr

KH

Nick may be having uncomfortable Ben flashbacks and feeling extra protective of Charlie, combined with the insecurities and worry about the future. And adding alcohol on top of a bunch of emotions is rarely a good idea!

Elfi

Yes! Somehow I'm actually glad Nick behaves that way. It's just realistic and relatable. He doesn't have to be perfect all the time.

RCM

at least either way, that will mean no more drinking, I hope, lol. It's going to be quite the hangover for Nick...

Marie

Wow, everyone is so quick to defend Charlie and never Nick. And I didn’t even say anything bad about Charlie. Nick is a person too, not just a tool to make Charlie’s life better. They’re fictional characters, and people have the right to have different opinions about the actions of the characters.

Indy ten Hoor

nick’s doing so well mentally😀

Maddy

Proof that they aren't perfect 😭

Melanie

If I was Charlie, knowing that Nick was as drunk as I’d ever seen him, any out of character actions would be a huge red flag for me. Time to get Nick home to bed and have a talk in the hungover light of day.

Kayleigh Clarke

Possessive Nick 😬 they need to have an honest and open conversation SOON or I feel like he’s going to spiral 🫣

Sara

some of these comments pmo

Andrew Pitonack

oh Nicky, so young, be flattered that this guy think Char is hot. Char would never do anything. There is a part of me that likes this side of Nick, real and raw emotions from him. He needs to sober up a bit. 😊

Loveislove

Let's remain calm - Nick was called a green flag boyfriend about half an hour ago in Green Dragon Pub time when he shut down the girl flirting with him. Yes he is drunk and holy cow does he need some support with his issues and jesus drink some water and go to bed but Nicholas Nelson has not turned into a red flag boyfriend. Remember we are in the one page a day vortex of overthinking - which we love.

Lolli98

I'm glad that Nick won't punch the guy. But he's not evil? I don't know...at least he is shameless and looking for trouble! His stupid grin when he says they talked about "drumming tips" makes me so angry!😡 Nick, please don't break this bottle...

Lolli98

Oh man, Charlie's evil look at Nick is making me really anxious. Charlie, please let him explain why Nick acts this way. I know this will result in a huge fight.😬 Again great portrayal of their emotions in their facial expressions! Charlie goes from worried to confused to f...ing angry in 3 seconds!

Rmb

This is very stressful! Sometimes I have to remind myself that I'm here voluntarily and I'm paying for the privilege.

Isak

Ooh Charlie’s not happy 😬 I like that he recognizes something was wrong as soon as Nick walks up though

Loveislove

Omg - all of this - thanks for drawing out those Nick and Charlie positives because I'm nervous about what is about to come.

Laura

Yeah, Nick needs a pint of water, two paracetamol, portion of chips on the way home and to go to bed!

melly2oo

Yikes possessiveness is not a good look 🫣

Ania W.

One thing that struck me was that Charlie's question to Nick was answered by the boy. Nick didn't even have a chance to say why he was behaving this way.

Dean Horn

Thank you for pointing out that the guy isn’t evil. He’s just rude, and Nick should know already that the guy won’t get anywhere. This is going to produce interesting lessons for them as a couple. What do you all think they will be?

Mgirl02176

Okay so Im not crazy! I knew he was flirting with him! Because personally if I saw the same thing drunk of not Id still feel some kinda way too! Like please you are waaay too close to my man, and don’t give me that cocky attitude when I confront you about it, that’ll just make it worse!

Ana Alicia Aranda De Contreras

oh oh I think this is not going to end well maybe Charlie is going to get angry with Nick for his attitude and even more so because he is already drunk😕

Tyler

Nah, I think nick is fine so far in his actions to this situation. He shouldn't be so drunk, but so far this is the okay thing to do in my eyes. He is checking this guy like he should. Dude already knows Charlie is in a relationship with nick and is still flirting. NOT OKAY. I'm totally fine with nick telling this dude to get lost. I can see how Charlie would be not happy though, seeing what appears to be his drunk jealous boyfriend being "possessive" in front of a stranger he just met. Since Charlie doesn't know the full situation yet... I just hope they can talk and that nick can tell Charlie what's actually wrong 😔

hllwds

omg why did these kids suddenly become so grown up 😭😭😭

Dean Horn

He’s a shite stirrer for sure, but he has no idea what he’s up against. This was bound to happen at some point and I’m glad it’s now, so that they can have a discussion. (Maybe not right away with Nick drunk, of course). Basically. Charlie witnessed Nick being flirted with and how Nick handled it. Nick should do the same. Charlie would have caught on if he already hadn’t and would have shot the guy down eventually. All Nick had to do was watch.

Onwards and Duckwards

Well so much for Charlie having a pleasant time performing surrounded by his friends.

June

The kiss🥹 but i really hope that Nick tells Charlie about the conversation he had with the guy so charlie understands why he's mad about them talking. And i'm saying this again; GO HOME FROM THAT PUB NOW!!😂

GirlHero

ha! that guy is so shady, but charlie clearly sees and behaves like he is a non-issue. nick has a maniacal grip on that bottle, fr 😭. i mean, strong emotions can be a gateway to realizing what we really care about, so there is that. much to think about. i love seeing the different sides of n + c’s personalities! love these panels. i’m definitely along for the ride.

Cole Morin

“We’re just having a conversation” OKAY 🙄….Drunk or not Nick has every right to go and be protective because this little shit knows what he’s doing. Making eyes at Charlie, finds out he’s dating someone and then pursues him in an alley by himself??? Let’s not forget what Ben did, so I 100% am fine with Nick reacting this way. They need to leave and just go home together and never go to this pub ever again lol.

Marisa

Nick and Charlie look so unlike themselves in panel 4 it’s almost kinda jarring 😔 which I think is spot on this moment. We’ve never seen either of them like this before. Excellent work Alice!

Elfi

Yes, Charlie's face in that panel scares me every time I look at it!

Beam Bugge

good to know there'll be no violence, this night is already chaotic enough noah fence random boi but you do not look like a guy who's "just having a conversation", these eyebrows do nothing in your favor (it's giving harry at the cinema going all "but i'm not homophobic 🥺" which did end up in violence, but luckily nick has matured a bit since then)

Ann ✨

IDK, he might not be evil, but he's definitely being entitled and manipulative of them both. "Charlie's giving me drumming tips"?? No he's not, he literally suggested that you could learn, in a very general sense. Sleaze-boy's making their conversation sound a lot more intimate than it is. I think Nick is well within his rights to be pissed off. I'm glad to know he's not going to punch him, but by all means, exposing his machinations to Charlie and giving him a verbal ass-kicking seems like a pretty reasonable response to me.

camelotcrusade

Alice would know more than most that you are going to have fans when you put yourself out there, and fans will run the gamut from polite and charming to flirty or rude (or worse). It won't do to bite the head off of everyone whose approach doesn't suit you. So far I think Charlie has been just fine.

Jordan

I feel like Nick is about to be confronted with an annoyed Charlie and break down even more, like he will feel like he’s letting Charlie down - and then big tears incoming?? Which could be good because he will finally finally have a soft place to put his big sad heart for the first time on this whole chaotic evening - Charlie will catch him, he just has to let himself be open about his fall a little 💜

Lex

I’ve been there nick and really the more we react, the more uncomfortable it becomes. Remember that Charlie loves you

Kim

Nicky!!! You need therapy, my guy. You've had garbage older male figures in your life. You've held it together for so long but you need some guidance and coping skills. Imma call Sarah Nelson and let her know to set the appointment. We need you to figure out who Nick is without Charlie. Hang in there, sweetie 🥰 Also imma need that basic boy to keep his hands off Charlie. "Teach me drum lessons". He knows what he's doing. Smh

T

Definitely didn’t want this to end with a “Nick got arrested” story.

kfm

My first thought was that drunk Nick can’t read Charlie’s closed off body language (arms crossed, neutral expression on the last page) as this guy talks to him… but on second thought seeing Charlie like that would 100% make Nick want to jump to overprotective mode even if he was completely sober and not dealing with all this self doubt. But Charlie is so damn strong and brave he can easily shut down the randos! Please. Just. Talk.

UpstandingGoose

Just a reminder that all this guy has said so far is: "oh Charlie has a boyfriend? I have no luck. How long have you been together? Wow you're basically married. Do you ever feel inexperienced? And I've always wanted to play the drums it's so cool." None of this warrants any reaction above a "excuse me but I'm stealing my boyfriend away now, bye!" OR "What you said earlier made me uncomfortable, I'd prefer if you didn't chat with us." If you think Nick would be valid in hitting or yelling at this guy PLEASE check yourself 😭🙏

Kela87

I hadn't read Alice's caption! I am so glad Nick will not (physically) fight this guy!

CinD

I believe Charlie once said something along the lines of not wanting to be looked after like he’s a fragile mess, that he’d HATE that. He’s a big boy and Nick has been doing too much lately. Nick needs to remember Charlie can handle himself most of the time. 👀

Gracie Bou

Oh god this is stressing me out

Meike

You’re allowed to be a mess sometimes.

Doménica Dolly

Not cute Being aggressively territorial over someone, my dude. I am glad he is still a teen so he can learn that relying on toxic masculinity traits is not it. I feel for Charlie, he might start feeling like he is not given grace to trust over making his own decisions and might as well start to feel annoyed everytime Nick has to somehow ‘step in’ to kind of protect him FROM making his very own decisions. This is all building up for both of them.

Ellinor Garden

This is definitely not the kind of boyfriend Charlie needs/wants. Hope Nick gets a proper telling off by Charlie.

Carly Pulver

oooo Nick is going to get a tongue-lashing from Charlie

Neenie

Charlie’s faces in this are excellently drawn

Ignacia

Mío by Paulina Rubio came up on the radio and that’s how I remember to check if there was a new page today (to any latin americans or paulina rubio’s fans out there: HI ☺️)

So thoughts! First, wow. second, I can kind of relate to Nick's insecurity, especially when you consider, that the boy was kind of stirring the pot. He isn't evil, for sure, but he also didn't respect the boundaries of the "We are happy together, without dating other people", boundary. There is no reason that the dude HAD to talk to Charlie. That said, Charlie wasn't actually in danger, and the guy did have plausible deniability. He hadn't said anything overt to Charlie, and just that little kiss that Nick gave to Charlie would have stopped the dude. But Nick had to make it a thing, and to get all anxious and possessive. And Charlie didn't know about the annoying conversation earlier so he might have been confused as to whether that was flirting or not and also why Nick was being so extra. (To me, a couple of pages before, it struck me that he was confused about whether the dude was flirting.) And I'm betting that Charlie, before Nick , spouted his mouth, was about to say something about it being late annd they should get going or something. It would have been much better and more subtle and would have gotten them out of this situation without this guy being a knob again. (just asking about drumming, right, lol...)Nick doesn't need to confront everyone who bats an eye at Charlie (and there will be more than a few guys in their lifetime who will, I suspect. Maybe girls too, but I'm not even counting them, lol.) And Charlie isn't fragile, and actually needs to learn how to let people down . or to subtly extract himself in a situation like this . And he hates when people try to take over when he can handle his situation.) And I feel a blow up fight is innimment. But that might not be the worst. (just reading it will be hard, but knowing they are endgame makes this tolerable) Also though, even though this is a bit heartwrenching (get back to Heartstopping soon, Alice) , in order to get to "forever," they do need growth.

Merel

You literally implied that Charlie isn't there for Nick when he's struggling. Charlie is constantly checking in with Nick this volume, asking if he's alright, encouraging him to talk about how he's feeling. Nick is struggling to open up to anyone. And indeed he is a person too and I don't blame him at all for his behaviour, but I don't think it's fair that you make it seem as if Charlie hasn't been loving and supporting Nick throughout all of this.

David C Witkin

Everyone give Nick some space. Everyone knows that New Guy is being a lying sleazeball. Charlie may just think he's flirting now, but wait till he finds out what he and his sniveling little schemer of a girlfriend said to Nick just before in the pub! Charlie will be mad at the conniving loser, not at Nick. He might be annoyed with Nick, but not truly mad. And Nick's not mad at Charlie. He's mad at New Guy for being a dishonest sleazeball, and that's totally legitimate. Just because it's also taking the form of something masculine or manly doesn't make it wrong. It's only because it's drunk and clumsy and poorly judged that it might go wrong and that's wholly different. Let Nick be himself!

David C Witkin

Nope. You are failing read facial expressions and intentions. You are also failing to remember Ben, and also the fact that some people, of all genders, get a very special pleasure out of sabotaging other people's relationships. This guy is an absolute worm, or a snake in the grass, if you will. I know violence is not the answer, but he's already ignored at least one spoken indicator to respect boundaries and back off. He'll keep pushing if he isn't warned off. Some people, especially some young men, are like that. It doesn't have to be physical, I agree. But the signs are clearly there, and it's unrealistic to expect a young man to play it cool and ignore them.

artxsta

every time nick is “doing too much,” (this & getting the sandwich @ school even tho charlie said he could get it himself comes to mind) it isn’t bc he thinks charlie is incapable but it has everything to do w nick feeling insecure & not needed. but charlie doesn’t know that, bc all nick has said is he doesn’t know WHAT he’s feeling. charlie doesn’t want to be coddled, and frankly, while nick is well-meaning, what he said was extremely embarrassing and territorial, esp bc the guy hasn’t said anything OVERT to charlie. also charlie is probably thinking “are other guys not allowed to talk to me?” or maybe he KNEW he was flirting, just like nick knew the girl was flirting w him, im not sure. the point is, nick could’ve been like “ya i’m tired, can we go home?” and that would’ve ended the conversation. but instead now he’s charlie’s, the drummer from queer intentions, bf who’s kinda territorial and got too drunk at their gig 😭 charlie pls tell him off but gently so that he’ll actually talk to you lol

Nicole

This is stressful but also Charlie’s little angst face is honestly adorable

Ania W.

Marie, your opinion is very unfair. After talking to the girl for a while, Nick pointed at Charlie and said, "That's my boyfriend." You demand that from Charlie immediately shouted "I have a boyfriend" when talking to someone? Throughout volume 6, Charlie carefully observes Nick's behavior, encourages him to talk, and gives him the opportunity to talk to him.

ucfnurse

Their facial expressions are adorable!!☺️😊👏❤️‍🔥💞🍶🫖🍵🧘‍♂️🪔🌹🌷🦜🌛🤞🕊️☮️

Anna Deligio

Seems Nick is choosing to learn the hard way. Sending him and all affected love. ❤️

UpstandingGoose

Wait but what boundary did this guy break? Nick didn't ask him not to talk to Charlie, and talking to someone in a relationship isn't an assumed social boundary either. I could see being upset if this guy touched Charlie, or was trapping Charlie in a conversation that Charlie obviously didn't enjoy but so far I really don't think he has earned anything past a firm "go away."

Beam Bugge

it wasn't my impression that the two of them were dating? they seem to be friends

alex graham

He should punch him icl. Get the fucker nick

Elsie 3

Ughhhh up next in today’s episode: “Nick’s least smooth move ever”…..

Elsie 3

I just keep thinking how different this would have been and how much better it would have gone for Nick if he’d followed up that hot kiss with a “oh hey, we were just chatting inside! I see you’ve met my boyfriend Charlie”. But alas, he’s too drunk and too up in his head to play it cool right now.

Elfi

It's interesting how Nick's behaviour here is so controversial apparently regarding today's comments... I think it shows that things are not always completely right or wrong, there is so much in between and I think it's brillant storytelling. I actually think both Nick's behaviour and Charlie's reaction are very understandable. We all know what's going on in Nick's head, what happened in the pub, how drunk he is etc. and I really understand why he is acting the way he is. I'm actually glad that he kind of stands up for himself, instead of just leaving or ignoring it or trying to stay calm, like he usually does. Sure, it's not the best behaviour and I totally get why Charlie is confused/annoyed/angry. It's just a classic misunderstanding and it is SO realistic. Everyone is allowed to be a mess sometimes, to do or say things that are not "perfect" and I think this is actually really important for Nick to realise. He's not a bad person, even if he does something that is not completely "right".

Meike

I don’t know. If everything inside the pub hadn’t happened, Nick would totally be overreacting and I’d dismiss his behavior, just as Charlie seems to when he looks at him angrily. Plus him being totally drunk doesn’t help the situation. However, that guy basically told him that he fancies Charlie and made disrespectful comments about their relationship. Whatever might be the true intentions behind this behavior, I think it’s totally valid if Nick is pissed off and suspects some kind of scheming behind this whole situation (and maybe he just ran into a carefully laid out trap?) Is he handling the situation smoothly? No! But is it because he doesn’t trust Charlie to be able to handle it himself? I don’t think so. If Charlie knew about the conversation inside, I am pretty sure he’d have some things to say about it, because he is really protective of Nick, too, isn’t he?

Kassie K Wilson

Dealing with this drunk isn’t going to help anyone at all 😬😬😬😬

Karol

I’m really curious how good Charlie is at recognizing that someone is flirting with him. There was Ben and there was Nick and that’s that . Can he really tell if someone is hitting on him (both with this not-evil-but-so-unlikeable character and anybody else?)? Nick has his own reasons for being insecure right now, but I’m not sure if I trust Charlie to clock a more subtle flirt.

Doménica Dolly

No one in the comments said he was a bad person because of the way he reacted. People are showing justified concern bcs this is not “typical Nick” and over all very curious of the follow up. Plus, everything is exacerbated when you're drunk, so that explains his own impulses and why he's so on edge *signals at the way he holds the bottle*. They're both allowed the grace to make mistakes, and this is part of Nick's arc in this volume, so it comes with very justified lessons to be learned.

Calfic

I got the feeling Charlie might have been confused, like he suspected, but it wasn't something where he could have brought up Nick without it sounding weird, so he just was politely talking. (And I assume he was VERY close to excusing himself.). And obviously, he doesn't know about Nick's conversation with the dude in the pub.

Lisa

I don’t think Nick is gonna be at that rugby game tomorrow 🥴

Lolli98

Yes, if he was sober, this would have been a good reaction. Unfortunately he isn't...

Lolli98

Sorry, I don't get the comments about "toxic masculinity". Hey, drunk or not, this is still Nick. If this was some random guy talking to Charlie, Nick would never have reacted this way. And if Charlie knew about the conversation in the pub, he would have walked away immediately. Nick isn't marking "his territory". Both their reactions are relatable to me, given this shit situation. The next few pages might get hard. But they will sort it out!💙💛

Elfi

I didn't mean someone in the comments said he was a bad person. I meant that is one of the things Nick will hopefully learn himself, that he doesn't have to be "perfect" all the time, that he's allowed to stand up for himself or to say or do something that might piss somebody off. Since he's trying so hard to always do the right thing.

Cliff

The guy actually is flirting with Charlie, and he was a jerk to Nick before, so I'm not so judgmental about Nick's anger yet. It all depends on what he says to Charlie next. If he says to him (while completely ignoring the other guy) "This jerk couldn't stop talking about how fit you were, and he put down our relationship. Let's get out of here," that would be fine. If Nick continues to interact with the guy, though, it would be like he was ignoring Charlie and his feelings, and things could quickly go downhill from there. He looks so sad in the first panel of the prior page, though! I hope nothing happens that makes him sadder.

Noemiette

No man is immune from toxic masculinity. Especially one who for most of his life was surrounded with lads like he did. We even had a scene a few weeks ago with a flashback of his dad telling him to not cry (the famous "boys dont cry"). It is impossible that he didnt internalize some of it in some way. It's not Nick's annoyance/anger at the guy that people are pointing out when talking about toxic masculinity. It's the grabbing, and kissing Charlie in front of him that is very "marking his territory". There were so many better ways of handling this. Just because it's Nick, doesnt mean he cant act in a wrong way. He has before. Just like many of the characters. It doesnt make them bad though.

Lolli98

Yes, there were better ways and I don't like the grabbing of Charlie's shoulder either (I commented on it yesterday). But this expression "toxic" is way too harsh in my ears. Call him drunk idiot, but not toxic.

Murgy

Charlie picking up immediately that Nick is not doing well is good, but its going to seem a bit of an overreaction to him at first given he was just having a conversation with this guy, because of course he didn't hear the conversation earlier, which is of course weighing on Nick's mind even before he saw the guy with Charlie. I'm glad Nick isn't going to punch him, but I can imagine Nick is going to be very rude or hostile for the next couple of panels. Hopefully Nick is going to be able to open up soon, we don't want to see his pain and fear grow deeper.

Noemiette

It's not harsh. It's a social concept that has meaning. Just like sometimes he is treading on the line of toxic positivity. We need to use these words to adress what is wrong with his behavior, what are the roots etc. Saying he is just being a drunk idiot just brushes the issue under the rug and doesnt dig deeper. And digging deeper is what Nick needs to help with his current mental issues ^^

Michael Hocking

Okay, I'm really looking forward to Kit Conner playing these scenes. But, can we stop normalising teens with adults, please? As a gay man, I find it offensive.

Brittney

Oh shit. Nick looks pissed off, oh our sweet boy, you can tell Charlie immediately knows something up. I swear both Nick and Charlie know each other all too well at this point of time because no one has been through a journey like they have and that's not an easy journey to go through. But oh boy, I think it's best if that guy goes back inside because right now Nick looks like he is so ready to fight someone or argue, poor Nick, I low-key know how he feels because keeping everything so bottled in for so long, it's going to break all the strings that's holding you upright until it fully breaks and all hell breaks loose

Fernanda Torres

Everyone calm down 😂 Nick is not perfect, he is an ball of anxiety lately and him acting like this makes perfect sense, based on the conversation this guy had before with him, kinda makes sense nicks reacts like this, it’s not okay, and he is very drunk, but still, we all know he is very protective of the people he loves. He will never be violent with someone, he is just putting his foot down, in a very drunk and uncomfortable way 😂😂

Dionne Lakey

Charlie's not in an alley by himself. He's outside a pub on a lit street with his band mates right near him. This guy isn't sinister, he just likes a guy and is flirting with him by asking him about his drum playing.

Elena

I'm SO curious, about Charlies next reaction and when and how he will be aware of the conversation before, between Nick and the guy. And I just SO want Charlie to understand Nick! In relation to their communication skills, I'm absolutely sure, it will be revealed, but HOW? 😲🧐

Mar

Sorry I’m just confused, what do you mean by “teens with adults”?

Margot Masclans

Thank you for the clarification Nick won’t hit the guy 🙏

Cole Morin

Okay he’s not alone but it’s not innocent either. I’m not saying he is sinister.

Megan

Oh Nick sweetie please calm down. Charlie looks so mad right now. I have a horrible feeling in the pit of my stomach this is going to end in a big argument between Nick and Charlie 💔😭 I know they’ll be okay in the end but I’m hating all this tension right now.

Katie🐝

Alice It always amazes me how you’re able to capture so many different emotions on their faces and with body language

Gracie

I think Charlie is gonna get mad Nicks gonna cry and then Charlie feels bad and tries to get Nick to talk to him

PoppieBee

Yeah I didn't need this tonight!!! Nah ah! But at the same time I know it will end up being something afirming about solid relationships and okay cause Alice is amazing at getting it!! XX

Kennedi Robinson

This is not good he’s really intoxicated I don’t want him to do something that will hurt him and char

Kristyn

So glad the boys are back together but so ready for a happy page for our soulmates

Allegra2346

God getting Nick home is gonna be fun

Elspeth Fougere

Liar! Good on you nick for speaking up, I just hope that charlie doesnt react to nicks aggression before hes had a chance to realise there is a slimy back story to why nicks angry about this creep being such a CREEP!! 🤢🤬🤦‍♂️ URG!

Elspeth Fougere

I think Id feel really different if this slime ball hadnt already been talking to his friend about having a chance with charlie. If someone is just a bit flirty, but still respectful, its cute. It can be sweet to see a partner being hit on accidentally, or being appreciated by someone else. Its natural that good people and kind people and fun people and cute people and anyone really at all is going to be appreciated by more than just their monogamous partner. I just cant stand people that knowingly start trouble, lie and play innocent while theyre actively manipulating, or who humiliate someone else to try to make themselves look good. Take the message and just be decent! Its so gross to intrude. Love is such a precious and difficult and sacred thing. Creeps dont deserve any part in such nice peoples lives. They can cause real havoc, and walk away shrugging it off like the slime balls they are leaving a mess behind them. It sucks being a queer person that everyone thinks they can take a piece of. Queer folks are so easily objectified, crushed on, claimed, intruded on! Its nobodys business, and its nobodys place to comment, intrude, disrespect, assume, push, or flirt when they should know better. Queer people actually have their own agency! Theynare giving signals if people care to listen, but so often people dont. This is the mircroaggressions of constant disrespect that invalidates queer love as less sacred than straight official relationships. It annoys the hell out of me. Once again alice has captured a very real dynamic that has super horrible consequences sometimes.

Angie Michaelis

Anyone else distracted by Nick’s jawline in the second panel?! Just me? 🫢😅👌 The way Alice shows emotions through their expressions and body language is amazing. Nick’s anger, Charlie’s confusion and later anger, annoying guy’s smug face, and the way Nick grips his beer—and his Charlie—so tight. So well done. We are really in for it now. (Loving all of it, even though it’s painful to watch in page-a-day time.)

lexi

that bottle is about to SHATTER

David C Witkin

Women behave in this way, too. Touching their partner in front of others and kissing them as well. This is not unique to men, nor is it necessarily "toxic". Calling it so is anti-male, an even qualifies as misandry. Not cool.

Noemiette

I am not even gonna bother answering this comment. Anti male and misandry 🤦‍♀️

Doménica Dolly

Your golden boy is too drunk to calculate his own moves and articulate thoughts and actions. Physical intimidation will never be the answer and here it shows that is building up to get worse. None of them are perfect, and they have a Lot of work to do, including Nick with breaking patterns and not letting his anxiety get in the way of how he functions. There was no necesity to bring up women, and if you look around and see how the world and us as a society function, there is no such thing as antimale anything.

hwalker

The guy’s expression in the third panel distinctly reminds me of Harry Greene for some reason >:(

Josh

Interesting, not really a side of Nick we’ve seen before. Not only the jealous side but also a bit of the aggressive side towards a non-hostile person. And while I agree that it’s not evil to flirt with a person who’s partnered, it’s also not cool especially when he knows that Charlie and Nick are a couple it’s the same as trying to flirt with a married person knowing for a fact they are married. I’m curious to see how Nick and Charlie navigate jealousy and how it affects their confidence. I wonder if anyone on here thinks it’s a bit more complicated for Charlie to get jealous since Nick is Bi and can potentially be flirted to by women and men. Is there a double standard for bi individuals?

GirlHero

other humans are going to be attracted to n+c because they are great, attractive, and amazing people! they can’t control others, only how they respond to them 😭. imo, no situation will come between n + c, unless they make that choice? i agree 💯 nobody is perfect, or without insecurities, faults & baggage. those are the things we mine for truth and to change. i really like seeing them navigate these paths, bumps and all. 🤍

Dionne Lakey

I think it's different from a married person. This is a relationship that this person has just learned a 16 year old is in, and from his point of view (as many people subscribe to) is committed by circumstance. I get the sense he thinks they're young and haven't yet met enough people that they could potentially be interested in. He doesn't know about the love they have for each other and is shooting his shot. Marriage needs no further explanation to imply love after time experiencing the world.

David C Witkin

Then You and I must be on different planets. He knows he's in a relationship that is exclusive/monogamous, and he knows he is not invited in, yet here he is pushing himself in between two people who are otherwise perfectly happy without his intervention. It's obvious his only intention is to sabotage Nick and Charlie so he can get with Charlie. He has already been told there's a boundary, and he's lied through his teeth to one of the partners about what he was doing while talking to Charlie (drumming tips? Please..) He's a lying snake, and he's already crossed the line.

UpstandingGoose

I guess I don't see *talking* as crossing a line or pushing himself in. And we have no evidence that "drumming tips" was a lie since there is conversation we don't hear as Nick approaches. It just seems harmless when you read all the pages in quick succession imo. But we're free to disagree. Discourse over things like this is really good I think!
